Chapter 59: Sorry, Friend Slots Are Full

The midterm exams were coming up soon.

During this time, Yang Mei had been staying in the grade office, listening to the class teachers boast about the top students in their classes.

It was a bit grating to her.

Unfortunately, in front of these people, her qualifications didn’t even rank.

As a result, Yang Mei was often excluded from the core circle in the grade office.

If it weren’t for a few top-ranking students in her class, Yang Mei probably wouldn’t even be able to stay in this office, and would have already left with the few teachers at the bottom of the class rankings.

But there was nothing to be done. The teacher’s circle at First High School was like this.

Teacher qualifications, student grades, average scores—these were the common topics of comparison between teachers.

Because all of these were tied to welfare benefits.

But there was a limited amount of performance points, the more one took, the less others would get.

So, there was an unspoken competitive relationship among the teachers.

This morning was the Chinese exam.

After invigilating the exam, Yang Mei returned to the grade office. She nodded and greeted a few teachers, then began organizing the lesson content for the upcoming classes.

At that moment, two young teachers walked in, one of them being a high school second-year physics teacher.

“Did you hear? The son of District Chief Li hasn’t been home for two days.”

The district chief referred to was Li Zhengsheng.

As the big shot of the district, he could move around the city at any time.

So, every move of District Chief Li attracted a lot of attention.

And as the son of the district chief, he was like a beacon in the eyes of many who had ulterior motives.

However, for some unknown reason, this young master, Li, hadn’t returned home for two nights.

This immediately piqued the interest of many teachers in the office, and their focus shifted to the second-year physics teacher.

“I wonder what’s going on. Young Master Li seems to have had some kind of falling out with his family.”

“Could it be because of a relationship?”

“Youngsters often get into disputes with their families over these things.”

Upon hearing this, Yang Mei’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.

After all, she was very familiar with the acrostic poem incident involving Li Mingwei.

If this was indeed the reason, and District Chief Li investigated it, it would not only affect Jiang Ning but also put Yang Mei in an uncomfortable position as the class teacher.

Her brow furrowed deeply at the thought.

In the grade office, a few teachers also knew who the girl in the acrostic poem incident was.

They shot Yang Mei strange looks, as if waiting for her to make a fool of herself.

This made Yang Mei feel uneasy, and her hand tightened around her pen, causing the lesson plan she was writing to tear with a sharp sound.

“How was the physics exam yesterday? The second question in the multiple-choice section was a bit tricky. What did you pick?”

On the playground, Luo Shanshan, Sun Qian, and a few other girls gathered together, busy comparing answers.

The afternoon exam had just ended, and answering the questions was the hot topic for most students at First High.

“What? You picked D for the third chemistry multiple-choice question?”

    “Who made up this question?”

    “That’s insane!”

Sun Qian slapped her thigh in frustration, clearly angry.

Meanwhile, Luo Shanshan was venting her own frustration over failing math again.

As for Jiang Ning, she sat casually on the railing, her long legs swinging back and forth.

To be honest, the difficulty of this exam wasn’t very high; it was just that some questions were tricky, with many pitfalls.

It was easy to fall into one of them if you weren’t careful.

For example, Sun Qian was a living example.

But as long as they were careful, their scores shouldn’t be too bad.

At this moment, Jiang Ning was leisurely listening to the girls vent, while she enjoyed the cool autumn breeze and stared at the sky.

Suddenly, Sun Qian’s soft exclamation broke her reverie.

“Hey, isn’t that Sun Yuhui from Class 10?”

“Why is he here on the playground?”

“Is he here to see me?”

“Wow, what if he really is here to see me? I didn’t dress well today.”

Hearing Sun Qian’s string of love-struck remarks, Jiang Ning couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

At that moment, Luo Shanshan, who was nearby, asked curiously:

“Sun Qian, didn’t you say you wouldn’t date in high school?”

“Why are you getting so excited over a handsome guy now?”

“You wouldn’t understand, Four-eyed Cow.” Sun Qian snorted, disdainfully saying:

“Handsome guys are for looking at, not for dating.”

“High school life, three years, a thousand days. If you don’t look at some handsome guys, how boring would that be?”

Hearing this nonsense, all the girls present couldn’t help but roll their eyes.

However, at that moment, Sun Yuhui, the handsome guy, was walking toward their group on the playground.

This made Sun Qian even more excited.

She kept whispering, “He’s coming, he’s coming!”

But as she was saying that, the handsome guy reached Jiang Ning and smiled, asking:

“Hello, are you Jiang Ning from Class 1-3?”

“I’m Sun Yuhui from Class 1-10. Can we be friends?”

    Gasp…

Upon hearing this, Jiang Ning almost choked on her own breath.

However, when she turned around and saw the expression on Sun Qian’s face—similar to someone constipated—she couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing.

She laughed so hard it was almost enchanting.

    But it didn’t last long.

Once her laughter subsided, Jiang Ning looked at the patient little handsome guy in front of her, waved her hand, and said:

“Sorry, I have too many friends, and my friend slots are full.”

With those words, the handsome guy’s face became a bit dark, but he still smiled politely and turned to leave.

At this point, Sun Qian muttered in complaint:

“Little Jiang Jiang, I’ve decided not to discuss any men in front of you ever again.”

    Then, she sighed dramatically:

    “Jiang Jiang, I hate you!”

Perhaps hearing the disappointment in Sun Qian’s tone, Jiang Ning suddenly jumped down from the railing, walked over to Sun Qian, and said:

“Okay, don’t be sad. Come on, I’ll treat you to something.”

    “Spicy strips, plums, or figs?”

Before Sun Qian could respond, Luo Shanshan immediately cut in:

    “I want mala tang!”

“I want it too!” Zhu Hui chimed in.

Sun Qian looked at them with a longing gaze.

    Immediately, Jiang Ning understood.

She waved her hand and cheerfully said:

“Alright, ladies, let’s go eat something delicious and spicy!”

However, just as they were leaving the playground, they saw Qi Wen jogging toward them.

When she finally stood panting in front of them, Jiang Ning grinned and walked a few steps forward, placing a hand on Qi Wen’s waist.

“Qi wen, why are you out of breath?”

Hearing this, Qi Wen rolled her eyes.

“Little Jiang Jiang, Yang Mei is looking for you!”
