Stealing ML’s White Moonlight C98
by MarineTLChapter 98
After their honeymoon, and taking another two or three days off, You Changqing was summoned by You Zongzheng to start work. Her expression was as grim as if she were heading to the battlefield.
Shen Lihuan found it funny and gave her a pat on the butt. “Get in the car. I’ll drive you to the office. Until school starts, I can be your personal chauffeur.”
As soon as she turned eighteen, Shen Lihuan learned how to drive together with You Changqing. But they rarely drove when they went out together—after all, if one of them was driving, they couldn’t cuddle up.
Now that they were wives, it was only natural that Shen Lihuan would personally drive her wife to work.
When little Youyou saw his sister getting into the car, he ran over with quick little steps and clung to the car door like an octopus. “Jiejie, Youyou wants to ride in the car too!”
“Then Youyou can sit in the back, and let your sister-in-law take the passenger seat,” Shen Lihuan said, not minding bringing the little guy along.
As soon as she said that, Youyou nodded like a pecking chick. He didn’t quite understand the significance of the front passenger seat, and actually thought the back seat was more spacious. “Got it!”
He climbed into the car by himself and obediently buckled his seatbelt without needing Shen Lihuan to remind him.
“You’re amazing, Youyou. You even remembered to buckle your seatbelt.”
Shen Lihuan praised him with a smile after she and You Changqing got in. She firmly shut the door, turned the wheel, and slowly pulled the car out of the Shen household.
Youyou’s cheeks flushed at his sister’s compliment. His chubby little hands went up to cover his face, and his smile bloomed like a bright peach blossom.
Half an hour later, the car pulled up in front of Dingshang International. You Changqing reluctantly said goodbye to Shen Lihuan, who leaned over to kiss her on the lips. “Go on in. I’ll come pick you up at noon.”
You Changqing pressed her lips together; she could still feel the warmth from Lihuan’s kiss. “Okay, wifey, I’ll wait for you.”
Watching her beautiful figure disappear into the building, Shen Lihuan finally turned the car around and drove off.
In the back seat, Youyou swung his little legs. “Jiejie, where are we going now?”
“Is there anywhere Youyou wants to go? Just name the place and Jiejie will take you.”
That answer made Youyou beam with joy. He clapped his hands and said, “My classmates all said their parents took them to the amusement park. I want to go too!”
He was talking about his classmates from kindergarten—one of the most highly rated kindergartens in the capital. From campus environment to teaching staff and security, everything was top-notch, so every kid enrolled came from a wealthy household.
Since her little brother wanted to go to the amusement park, of course his big sister would make that wish come true. So Shen Lihuan took a detour and headed for Happy World Amusement Park.
After parking the car, she held her brother’s hand and walked toward the entrance. The whole family had taught Youyou that when going out, he must hold an adult’s hand and not run off, or else with so many people in the street, he might get lost and never see his parents or sister again.
That thought had terrified Youyou. He’d clung to Shen Lihuan’s hand with teary eyes and said, “I don’t want to lose Jiejie, and I don’t want to lose Mama and Papa either.”
Shen Lihuan had used that chance to teach him, “Then you better remember—whenever we go out, you must hold Mama, Papa, or Jiejie’s hand.”
Youyou had nodded so hard it looked like his head might fall off, and he absolutely refused to let go of her hand. It had taken quite a bit of coaxing for him to calm down.
So now, whenever they went out, Youyou would always hold out his chubby little hand for someone to take. The sight of him being so well-behaved made Shen Lihuan’s heart melt.
The amusement park opened at nine, and they arrived just as it did, though there were already quite a few people there. Wanting to make the most of the visit, Shen Lihuan bought a full-access pass and entered the dreamlike park hand in hand with Youyou.
Youyou was a brave little guy, and with his sister at his side, he wanted to try almost everything. If not for the age and height restrictions, he would’ve gone for the drop tower, roller coaster, and even bungee jumping.
After coaxing her thrill-seeking brother away from those death-defying rides, Shen Lihuan let out a breath of relief. Then she spotted a few food stalls about five meters ahead—one of them sold ice cream and cold drinks. Her eyes lit up as she found a perfect way to distract Youyou.
Pointing to the stall, she said, “Youyou, look! What’s that? Do you want to get some ice cream?”
Youyou’s puffed cheeks deflated. He reached out and grabbed Shen Lihuan’s hand. “I want ice cream. Jiejie, let’s go get ice cream. One for you and one for me.”
Good boy—he even remembered to get one for his sister. Shen Lihuan chuckled and gave him a sidelong glance, leading him over to get in line. The queue was a bit long, and Youyou, holding her hand, began to look around out of boredom. Suddenly, he spotted his deskmate, Gong Chenxing, walking nearby with a woman he didn’t recognize.
Youyou immediately perked up. Gong Chenxing had bragged before about how much his parents loved him and how often they brought him to the amusement park. But now Youyou was here too, with his sister! That made them even.
With that thought, he waved and shouted, “Gong Chenxing! I came to the amusement park too!”
Shen Lihuan heard his excited voice and smiled as she looked down. “Youyou saw a friend?”
He nodded excitedly and pointed at the fading figure of Gong Chenxing. But when his friend didn’t turn around, Youyou frowned in confusion. “That boy is my deskmate. Why didn’t he look back? Did he not hear me?”
He raised his voice again. “Gong Chenxing! I’m over here—look at me!”
The woman holding Gong Chenxing visibly tensed up. The next moment, she picked him up and quickly ran off.
Shen Lihuan’s expression instantly turned serious. That was strange—why would someone run away just because a little boy called out a name?
Something wasn’t right.
She immediately scooped up Youyou and sprinted in their direction. Feeling her tension, Youyou clung to her neck, his big eyes locked on the people ahead, instinctively sensing that something had gone wrong with Gong Chenxing.
Shen Lihuan moved at lightning speed. Even while carrying the fairly heavy Youyou, she was still swift and nimble. Soon, the woman and Gong Chenxing reappeared before them. Seeing the woman about to run out of the amusement park, Shen Lihuan shouted, “Someone help! The woman in grey up ahead is a child trafficker—catch her!”
“A child trafficker!”
The moment people heard the words “child trafficker,” they quickly reacted. Seeing a woman in grey holding a child, they rushed over and stopped her.
Not far off, an unremarkable grey van was parked. The people inside saw the woman surrounded and immediately ran over. A middle-aged man among them shouted, “Hey! Hey! What are you doing stopping my wife and child?”
As soon as the woman saw the middle-aged man, her eyes flickered and she quickly chimed in, “Husband, come quickly! Someone’s trying to steal our child!”
The crowd froze at their sudden exchange. The woman pointed at Shen Lihuan, who had just caught up, and said, “It’s her! She chased me down and tried to take our son. Good thing I ran fast.”
The middle-aged man instantly flew into a rage and swung a palm the size of a fan toward her. “You filthy woman, crying thief while being the thief yourself!”
Shen Lihuan stepped back, grabbed his wrist with one hand, and twisted it sharply backward. The man let out a scream as cold sweat broke out on his forehead. “Ah!”
Disgusted, Shen Lihuan flung his hand away. The man staggered back a few steps, his face pale as a sheet.
“Everyone be my witness—I’d never falsely accuse a decent person.”
Shen Lihuan set Youyou down and held his hand, raising it slightly to the crowd. Her forceful presence and her earlier show of strength, combined with her open and composed demeanor, made people instinctively believe her.
“This woman in grey claims the boy she’s holding is her son. I just want to ask—what proof do you have that he’s your son?”
Her icy gaze swept toward the woman in grey and the few people behind her who looked like accomplices. The woman was startled by her intimidating eyes and quickly looked away.
Seeing the suspicious glances from the crowd, the man hastily exclaimed in anger, “He’s my own son—why do I need proof?”
“Why wouldn’t you need proof? If that’s the case, then can I just grab a kid off the street and claim I’m his mother?”
Shen Lihuan sneered.
People around nodded in agreement. Right—if no proof was needed, anyone could just snatch a child off the street.
As she spoke, Shen Lihuan kept an eye on the little boy’s reactions. Logically, a child caught in such a situation would be crying, but this boy made no sound. His expression was blank, like a doll.
Her face darkened. “What did you give him? Why isn’t he reacting at all?”
Damn it—could that woman have drugged him?
The woman in grey panicked, quickly pulling the boy’s face into her clothes. “N-No, I didn’t give him anything. He’s just sleepy.”
But her clumsy cover-up and unconvincing explanation made even the bystanders frown.
“Someone please call the police. This child is not their son—he’s my little brother’s desk mate at kindergarten. My brother has never seen these people before. The boy is missing and his parents must be frantic.”
Shen Lihuan turned to the crowd. She still held Youyou’s hand and couldn’t spare one to make a call herself, while also needing to prevent the group from escaping.
“Oh, right—got it!”
Someone quickly pulled out their phone and dialed the police.
Seeing the deal falling apart, the middle-aged man glared venomously at Shen Lihuan. Suddenly, he told the woman to put the child down and tried to flee. But the crowd was ready—at the first sign of movement, they surged forward and tackled the traffickers. Fortunately, none of them had weapons, so no one was injured. Within minutes, they were subdued.
Shen Lihuan and Youyou quickly ran over to Gong Chenxing. Seeing his eyes glazed over, she immediately probed his body with her ability and discovered a black substance was corroding him from the inside. She promptly used her power to purge the black substance.
If left untreated, the substance would have eventually reached his brain and turned him into an imbecile.
Whoever had used this kind of drug was no ordinary person—there was likely a huge operation behind them, profiting off trafficking.
Gradually, as the dark substance was cleared out, Gong Chenxing regained consciousness. He blinked his sore eyes and saw an enlarged face appear in front of him—fair skin, big round eyes, chubby cheeks.
Wasn’t this Youyou?
The moment he recognized someone he knew, he burst into tears and threw himself into Youyou’s arms, wailing, “Youyou, it was so scary! I almost didn’t get to see you again!”
Little Youyou, the sweet boy, gently patted his back to comfort him. “Don’t cry, don’t cry. I’m here now. You’re safe.”
Gong Chenxing cried for several minutes before finally calming down. Embarrassed, he rubbed his eyes and glanced at Shen Lihuan standing beside them. His face flushed. “Youyou, isn’t that your sister?”
He had seen this pretty sister when she dropped Youyou off at school.
“Yeah! She brought me to the amusement park today. Good thing I saw you, or you’d be in real danger.”
Youyou’s big eyes blazed with fury at the memory of those people trying to snatch his desk mate.
Gong Chenxing’s lips trembled again. Shen Lihuan smiled and patted his head. “Don’t be afraid—you’re safe now. The bad guys have been caught. Do you remember your mom or dad’s phone number? Call them and ask them to come pick you up.”
Looking at the pretty older sister, Gong Chenxing suddenly didn’t feel scared anymore. He recited his dad’s phone number, and Shen Lihuan dialed it for him. The call was answered almost immediately. A panicked male voice came through, “Chenchen, is that you?”
Hearing his dad’s voice, Gong Chenxing started crying again. “Daddy!”
By the time his parents arrived at the police station, Shen Lihuan had already completed her statement. As a good Samaritan, she was not only thanked by the officers but also awarded a commendation banner for her brave act.
Shen Lihuan refused; she didn’t do good deeds for fame. The officers all praised her for having a high sense of moral awareness, to which Shen Lihuan responded with a fake smile: [insert fake smile jpg].
Regarding her claim that “there must be a trafficking ring behind these kidnappers, and they use strong hallucinogenic drugs when abducting people,” the police solemnly assured her that they would thoroughly investigate the matter and would not let a single criminal slip through the cracks.
Shen Lihuan nodded in satisfaction. This matter had to be taken seriously at a national level. Although the Green Nation imposed heavy punishments, a great figure once said: “With 50% profit, capital will take risks. With 100% profit, it will trample every law. And with over 300% profit, it will commit any crime, even at the risk of execution.”
Human trafficking was punishable by death in the Green Nation, and yet she had just encountered traffickers today. It was clear that the crimes hiding in the shadows were many and only growing. The lack of news coverage in the past didn’t mean these things weren’t happening—only that they hadn’t been discovered. And when evil could stay hidden, it would only bide its time before striking again.
When Gong Chenxing’s parents arrived at the Public Security Bureau and saw their lost-but-recovered son, they hugged him tightly and sobbed uncontrollably. His mother almost fainted from breathlessness, and his father hurried to support her. After a moment, she finally recovered and expressed tearful gratitude to Shen Lihuan and Youyou, nearly kneeling in thanks.
After another round of emotional chaos…
Shen Lihuan checked her phone and saw that it was already 11:15. She quickly said goodbye to Youyou and Gong Chenxing’s family—she had to go pick up her wife from work.
Seeing that their benefactor was in a hurry, Gong Chenxing’s parents quickly promised to visit tomorrow to thank her properly. They weren’t strangers to the Shen family’s eldest daughter, and naturally, they recognized both Shen Lihuan and Youyou.
In order to leave quickly, Shen Lihuan casually agreed. Only then was she finally let go.
