Raising Kids C04
by MarineTLChapter 4
Xie Hui crouched down and effortlessly picked up his son. Seeing the little guy’s disappointed expression, he couldn’t help but feel his heart soften.
“Daddy promised Baby, so I will definitely keep my word. For the foreseeable future, I’ll stay at home with you.”
Xie Ze’s mouth formed an ‘O’ shape. He originally thought his dad was just tricking him. But remembering how Uncle Jiang always told him that Daddy was very busy with work, he started to feel conflicted again.
He really wanted Daddy to stay by his side, but if Daddy didn’t work, he would starve.
Wrapping his chubby little arms tightly around Xie Hui’s neck, Xie Ze spoke in a serious, milky voice:
“Daddy, I will work hard to eat well and then earn lots and lots of money. When I grow up, I’ll take care of you!”
Xie Hui carried his son to the dining room. The chef had already prepared breakfast and placed it on the table, steaming hot. The rich aroma of food filled the air, and Xie Hui clearly saw his son swallow his saliva.
When he reached out to hold a spoon to feed him, Xie Ze took the spoon himself, frowning as he protested.
“Daddy, I’m already three years old! I can eat by myself!”
“Alright, Baby will eat by himself.”
Xie Hui picked up his chopsticks and started eating his own breakfast. Even though he had traveled through countless worlds, he had to admit that a well-behaved little child could indeed heal a person’s heart.
After breakfast, his assistant arrived with the sunflower seeds that Xie Hui had asked him to buy the night before.
Xie Ze held his little sand shovel and handed the blue one to Xie Hui, muttering softly,
“Boys should use blue.”
Xie Hui glanced at the pink shovel left in the bucket, ruffled his son’s hair, and asked,
“But what if there’s only a pink one left?”
Xie Ze stared at the pink shovel in the bucket, hesitated for a moment, then righteously declared,
“I’m still a kid, so it doesn’t count!”
Xie Hui spent the entire morning planting flowers with his son.
They turned over the neglected soil in the yard, scattered the seeds, covered them, and watered them.
Xie Ze was sweating from the heat. His nanny, who had taken care of him all along, felt distressed when she saw this and called out,
“Sir, the little one’s skin is turning red from the sun. Let him rest for a bit.”
Xie Hui turned to glance at his son, who was crouched down, diligently digging holes and completely oblivious to the nanny’s words. He shook his head at her.
“It’s fine. Let him play a little longer. The sun isn’t too harsh today, so he won’t get sunburned.”
Even though this was his first time raising a child, Xie Hui instinctively felt that children—whether boys or girls—shouldn’t be raised too delicately. It was fine if they got a little dirty.
The nanny meant well, but she couldn’t bear to see the child suffer even a tiny bit in her eyes.
Usually, Xie Ze was very obedient and never caused trouble for his nanny.
But today, with Daddy by his side, he couldn’t bear for their first time playing together to end so soon. So, he was a little disobedient and stayed outside.
When all the sunflower seeds were planted, little Xie Ze looked at the land he had worked on and nodded in satisfaction.
“Baby, remember to water the sunflowers every day and don’t slack off.”
Hearing his dad’s words, Xie Ze nodded seriously, as if accepting an important mission.
“I will take good care of them. When they bloom, I’ll cut them all down and give them to Daddy!”
