As the barrier dissipated, Wang Gang ran over anxiously.
“Sect Leader, is Shen Xiu alright?”
“Hiss~” Sect Master Xia drew in a sharp breath. This kid actually dared to call the Ancestral Master by name?
Even though it was just two characters, it was no different from directly calling the Ancestral Master by her full name.
Truly, ignorance is bliss. This foolish boy was something else.
Wang Gang looked confused. “Sect Leader?”
Sect Master Xia clutched his chest. “It’s fine, just a misunderstanding. This one isn’t an ordinary Outer Sect Disciple—his background is a bit… complicated. Since he gave it to you, just accept it. Don’t overthink it.”
Wang Gang beamed. “Yes, sir!”
“Well then, I’ll be off.”
Before leaving, Sect Master Xia cast one last envious glance at Wang Gang. This guy had really hit the jackpot.
As long as he stayed on the right path, it looked like his good fortune would keep on going.
So jealous. Absolutely, painfully jealous.
Once the Sect Leader had gone, Wang Gang scratched his head sheepishly and said to Shen Xiuyan, “Um, don’t be mad, okay? After I took the Medicinal Pill you gave me, I broke through straight to the Late Foundation Establishment Stage. It was so unbelievable that it alarmed the Sect Leader. I really wasn’t trying to keep it from you.”
Shen Xiuyan patted him on the shoulder. “I get it. No need to explain. If I gave it to you, then it’s yours.”
Wang Gang’s eyes sparkled with gratitude. “Junior Brother, you’re such a good person. I owe you big time. If you ever need anything, just say the word. You point, I punch.”
Shen Xiuyan sighed, wanting to say it wasn’t necessary.
But seeing how excited Wang Gang looked, he just couldn’t bring himself to say no.
“Alright then, let’s hurry to the steward’s office. It’s getting late—I don’t know if we’ll still be able to get assigned to Biluo Peak.”
Wang Gang thumped his chest confidently. “Don’t worry. If they won’t assign you, I’ll throw a tantrum right in front of the steward until we get a spot.”
Wang Gang had already figured it out—whatever Junior Brother’s background was, as long as the Sect Leader said he was fine, then Wang Gang would cling to this golden thigh for dear life.
This kind of outrageous luck probably only comes once in a lifetime.
And if it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance, he had to treasure it.
Fortunately, in the end, Wang Gang didn’t actually have to roll on the ground and throw a fit.
After all, Biluo Peak wasn’t exactly the Outer Sect’s top pick. Most people tried to avoid it if they could. Unlike these two, who were practically fighting to get in.
So naturally, there were still spots left. The two of them happily headed off to Biluo Peak together.
After sweeping fallen leaves around the mountain for a while, Shen Xiuyan sighed. As expected, relying on luck to run into Mingyue was just wishful thinking.
He’d been watching the surroundings for a long time, but still hadn’t caught sight of Su Mingyue.
After some thought, he sat down to the side and pulled out the Communication Talisman Su Mingyue had given him.
The talisman glowed faintly, and a delighted voice came through.
“Junior Brother?”
Shen Xiuyan pouted, cheeks puffed like a steamed bun. “Senior Sister…”
“What’s wrong? Are you hungry? Did someone bully you?” Su Mingyue’s voice was full of concern.
Shen Xiuyan’s soft, spoiled tone struck Su Mingyue right in the heart.
Aww~ Junior Brother is just too adorable.
Shen Xiuyan shook his head pitifully. “No, it’s not that. I just came to Biluo Peak to sweep again today, but I didn’t see you.”
Su Mingyue’s eyes curved into a smile when she heard that. Maybe it wasn’t just her being overly eager—maybe this was mutual.
She immediately said, “Where are you? I’ll come right now.”
Shen Xiuyan answered honestly, “Back of the mountain, near Central Peak.”
“Okay, I’m on my way.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the talisman connection cut off. Shen Xiuyan looked up at the sky helplessly—he really had thrown away all his pride in chasing after his future wife.
Who would’ve thought he’d one day become so fluent at acting cute?
Not far away, Wang Gang was sweeping as he secretly observed Shen Xiuyan’s every move.
At this point, everything Shen Xiuyan did seemed perfectly reasonable to him. Even if he was the only one sweeping this huge area while Shen Xiuyan just sat on a rock daydreaming, he didn’t mind one bit.
He even wanted to go over and ask if Junior Brother was thirsty and needed a drink.
And so, Wang “Simp” Gang was officially born in a blaze of glory that day.
Shen Xiuyan hadn’t been daydreaming for long before Su Mingyue came rushing over with a food box in hand.
From a distance, she spotted her outstanding Junior Brother and called out, “Junior Brother! Over here! Look what goodies I brought you!”
Shen Xiuyan’s eyes lit up at the sound of her voice. He immediately scampered over.
“Senior Sister!”
Su Mingyue smiled warmly. “Tired from sweeping today?”
Shen Xiuyan shook his head. “Not at all. Senior Brother Wang took great care of me.”
“That’s good.” Su Mingyue gave Wang Gang a polite smile, then pulled Junior Brother aside.
“Quick, eat up. These are some rare treats my dad just got his hands on. This is all that’s left—don’t let Wang Gang see.”
It was her first time playing favorites like this, and Su Mingyue felt a little guilty.
Shen Xiuyan’s eyes curved into a smile. “Thank you, Senior Sister. You’re the best.”
Looking at that smile, Su Mingyue suddenly felt that double standards were totally worth it.
Who could resist playing favorites when faced with a smile like that?
Shen Xiuyan didn’t hold back. He immediately grabbed something from the basket and started eating.
His cheeks moved with each bite, and the way he ate—so sweet and content—made Wang Gang, who was secretly watching from the side, swallow hard.
Now that he was at the Late Foundation Establishment Stage, even though he was a fair distance away, he could hear every single word exchanged between Senior Sister and Junior Brother loud and clear…
It was heartbreaking.
He should’ve known from yesterday’s Phoenix Immortal Grass pastries that Senior Sister was totally playing favorites.
Watching the two of them, he felt like he didn’t belong here—he belonged six feet under.
Deciding that ignorance was bliss, he turned away and headed off to sweep another area.
Wuwu~ If he couldn’t see it, he wouldn’t be so tempted.
Su Mingyue watched as Shen Xiuyan devoured everything in the basket in just a few bites, and asked, “Was it good?”
Shen Xiuyan wiped his mouth and nodded. “Delicious!”
“Good. If there’s anything you want to eat in the future, just tell me. Don’t be shy,” Su Mingyue said, already treating Shen Xiuyan like one of those poor Outer Sect disciples who never got enough to eat.
Shen Xiuyan shook his head firmly. “I don’t want food…”
Su Mingyue tilted her head, curious. “Then what do you want?”
Shen Xiuyan lowered his head and mumbled, “I want to see you every day. You’re the first person who’s ever been this nice to me.”
That pitiful, heart-tugging look on his face hit Su Mingyue right in the feels.
She really couldn’t resist. The little junior brother’s charm was just too lethal.
She was starting to question her will to live.
After a moment of thought, she carefully chose her words. “Are you saying… you want to become a disciple of Biluo Peak?”
Shen Xiuyan nodded, then quickly shook his head. “Becoming a disciple of Biluo Peak would let me see you every day. What I want… is to see you every day.”
That direct pitch was way too much—Su Mingyue surrendered on the spot. “Well… it’s not impossible. Wait here, I’ll go talk to my father.”
For an Outer Sect disciple to enter the Inner Sect, all it really took was a word from one of the elders.
Otherwise, they’d have to rely on their own cultivation, and once their strength reached a certain level, they’d naturally be promoted.
But this little junior brother was so obedient and clearly relied on her so much—leaving him in the Outer Sect really did make her uneasy.
Not to mention… she had a little secret thought she couldn’t quite admit to herself.
Ahem. Don’t think about it. The more she thought about it, the more shameless she felt.
Shen Xiuyan’s eyes widened in surprise. “Really? You won’t get in trouble for this?”
Even as he said it, he couldn’t help but scold himself inwardly—ugh, that was way too much green tea.
But Su Mingyue had never encountered this kind of sweet-talking before, and it worked like a charm on her.
“It’s no trouble. Just wait here—I’ll go find my father.”
With that, Su Mingyue hurried off.
