In the following days, Shen Lihuan spent most of her time with You Changqing. You Changhong, being a cheerful and talkative person, would often come over to chat with them, gossiping about interesting things that happened at the banquet.

Seeing his boundless energy, Shen Lihuan assigned him a task—finding out how Qin Aochen managed to sneak into the banquet.

You Changhong eagerly accepted the mission. Since the beautiful sister had spoken, he would gladly climb mountains of swords and wade through seas of fire for her. Moreover, he had heard about Qin Aochen pestering his sister and already disliked him. If he could catch Qin Aochen in a scandal, he would make sure to teach him a lesson.

Only a few minutes had passed before You Changhong slipped back, covering his mouth as he laughed, his eyes curved into crescents—he looked exactly like a little mouse that had just stolen some oil.

“What is it? Did you find out?”

Seeing his expression, Shen Lihuan was curious about what had happened to make him so delighted.

“I found out.” You Changhong scratched his curly hair. “Qin Aochen attended the banquet as the male companion of Lin Ruyi, the second young miss of the Lin family. I heard that Lin Ruyi is deeply infatuated with him. When I went over just now, Qin Aochen was flirting with her.”

As he said this, You Changhong pursed his lips, clearly showing his disdain for Qin Aochen.

A trace of ridicule flashed in You Changqing’s eyes. Qin Aochen was nothing but scum—who knew how many women he had entangled with? Yet, he had the audacity to pretend to be deeply in love with her. It was truly disgusting.

Shen Lihuan shook her head. If the male lead wasn’t a womanizer, then he wouldn’t be the male lead. However, once he gained power, he would inevitably set his sights on Changqing, so she had to eliminate him before he achieved success.

“But I won’t let him off so easily. I went straight up to them and said, ‘The last time I saw you, the girl in your arms wasn’t this one. Have you changed girlfriends again?’ Lin Ruyi was so furious that her entire face twisted out of shape. Hahaha!”

After finishing his story, You Changhong clutched his stomach and burst into laughter, immensely proud of his wit and cleverness.

You Changqing couldn’t help but curve her lips into a smile, while Shen Lihuan gave him an amused glance and said, “Well done.”

With the beautiful sister’s approval, You Changhong puffed out his chest with pride, standing tall like a proud rooster.

On the other side, the moment Lin Ruyi heard You Changhong’s words, her face darkened. The reason she liked Qin Aochen was partly because of his good looks and rising fame as a singer, but mostly because of the devoted persona he had crafted.

Women always find themselves drawn to men who seem deeply in love with someone else, hoping that such devotion will one day be directed at them. Lin Ruyi was no exception. Knowing that Qin Aochen was utterly devoted to You Changqing, persisting despite countless rejections, made her heart fall for him.

She had thrown herself into Qin Aochen’s world without hesitation, passionately confessing her love to him. Even when he rejected her, she never backed down. Now that she had finally moved him and convinced him to be her boyfriend, she suddenly found out that he had dated other women before. Hadn’t he claimed that he had never been in a relationship because of his love for You Changqing? Hadn’t he told her that she was his first girlfriend? Was it all a lie?

Seeing Lin Ruyi’s dark expression, Qin Aochen’s heart skipped a beat. He was absolutely certain that he would one day establish a powerful family, but that was in the future. Right now, he was still too weak. Though he had money, he lacked power. If he offended a prestigious family at this stage, how would he be able to rise in the future?

Thus, he used every ounce of his ability to explain, swearing that he had never dated anyone before. He even made a solemn vow, saying that if he was lying, he would be struck by lightning and die a miserable death.

Looking into his firm and unwavering eyes, Lin Ruyi quietly sighed in relief and snuggled back into his arms. “Aochen, I only acted this way because I care too much about you. I really love you, so please don’t betray me.”

“How could I? I love you too much for that,” Qin Aochen said, holding her tightly with deep affection in his voice. However, in his heart, he was seething with resentment. The fact that he had to lower himself to appease her was unbearable. He vowed that once he became powerful, he would destroy the Lin family and see if Lin Ruyi could still use her family background to lord over him.

Aside from this minor incident, the banquet was a great success.

The next day, Shen Jiashu went to work at Shen Corporation with Shen Zhongyuan, while Gu Qinglan returned to her job. She was a senior jewelry designer and owned her own studio.

When Shen Lihuan returned to school, she was greeted with enthusiastic attention. Thanks to the students who had attended the banquet, everyone now knew that she was the second young miss of the Shen family and an excellent pianist.

Shen Lihuan remained composed, treating the situation exactly as she had before. Only You Changqing was a bit annoyed when people interrupted her conversations with Lihuan.

Sensing her displeasure, Shen Lihuan quickly and skillfully dismissed the enthusiastic classmates in just a few words.

After school, Shen Lihuan and You Changqing made plans to visit the busiest commercial street in the imperial capital—Chaoning Street—to pick out a birthday gift for You Changhong. His birthday was on August 10, so they needed to prepare the present in advance.

Just as they stepped out of the school gate and were about to get into their car, an old man a few meters away suddenly clutched his chest and collapsed onto the road.

A girl hesitated for a moment before crying out and throwing herself onto him. “Grandpa! What’s wrong? Don’t scare me! Somebody help! Please save my grandpa!”
