Chapter 125 Bai Yun’an: Was It Really Just a Coincidence?

    “Mom!”

    “Mom!”

As two young voices rang out, Jiang Dai saw her two sons running back from playing outside.

【Thank goodness the eldest and the third went out to play. Otherwise, I’d be overwhelmed with too many little burdens.】

【There’s no way I could protect the whole family by myself.】

    Jiang Dai sighed inwardly.

    Juanjuan, standing nearby: ?

    Little burdens?

    Big Brother and Third Brother?

It’s okay! Once Mom finds out the truth, she won’t think that way anymore.

Seeing the two boys rushing over in a panic, Jiang Dai quickly tried to reassure them.

    “It’s alright, I’m fine. Don’t worry.”

But who were Bai Yunqi and Bai Yun’an?

The two of them glanced simultaneously at their mother’s still-trembling hands.

Bai Yunqi lowered his eyes briefly, then looked up with a bright smile. “Mom! I’ll protect you from now on!”

Bai Yun’an sighed silently, then lifted his innocent-looking face and said in a cold tone, “Mom, Big Brother stepped in dog poop again.”

The warm, loving atmosphere between mother and sons shattered in an instant.

    Bai Yunqi: …

    Jiang Dai: …

“By the way, where’s Dad?” Bai Yun’an asked, ignoring the murderous glare his older brother shot at him.

    Speaking of that…

Jiang Dai gave a slightly awkward smile.

“He fainted. He’s lying down inside.”

    Bai Yun’an: …

Forget it. It’s not like he should’ve expected much from their naive, sweet-tempered dad from before the apocalypse.

As long as he’s not dead, it’s fine.

    But Mom’s injury…

Without proper disinfection, it could easily lead to a fever.

    “Mom, Dad’s… awake.”

Juanjuan came running out of the house and immediately spotted her two older brothers standing beside their mother.

    “Big Brother, Third Brother.”

The little one greeted them, then looked up at her mother and whispered, “Dad is still Dad. He didn’t change.”

When their father fainted, Juanjuan’s biggest fear was that the old version of him—the one who drank and hit people—would come back.

Jiang Dai reached out and pinched her daughter’s cheek. “Don’t worry. Your dad’s turned over a new leaf. If he ever dares to bully Juanjuan again, I’ll beat him up myself!”

【Just now, when Juanjuan asked if her dad would go back to hitting people after waking up, I was really startled. Thank goodness, it’s fine.】

【I knew it! Bai Tian’s a transmigrator, after all. There’s no way he’d die that easily!】

Standing beside her mother, Juanjuan couldn’t help but sneak a glance at her big brother.

【She’s sneaking a look at me. She must think I’m handsome!】

Bai Yunqi had just finished this smug thought when the little girl he’d anonymously saved earlier looked up at him with her soft, sweet face and asked, “Big Brother, did you step in dog poop?”

    Bai Yunqi: …

【Didn’t I wipe it all off?! How did this little rascal find out?!】

As if hearing his unspoken question, the little one pointed calmly at the hem of her dress. “It got on here.”

Yep. The dog poop stuck to the edge of his shoe had smeared onto her skirt.

    Bai Yunqi: …

    This was mortifying. Absolutely mortifying!

In the midst of the awkward silence, Bai Tian walked out of the house.

    “Daidai! Are you alright…”

Seeing Jiang Dai’s arm wrapped in bandages and the dark red stains still on her clothes, Bai Tian’s voice turned soft with concern. “Does it still hurt a lot?”

Jiang Dai smiled and nodded. “It’s manageable. After all, I’m not that young anymore. I can’t just pass out like you.”

    Bai Tian: …

Even now she’s joking? So annoying!

    So annoying I could scream!

“It’s fine. Don’t worry,” Jiang Dai said, then reached out to tap Juanjuan on the nose. “Juanjuan did an amazing job today! You deserve praise.”

Juanjuan smiled shyly but couldn’t help sneaking another glance at her big brother.

It was really all thanks to him.

Bai Yun’an’s gaze landed on Juanjuan, and he couldn’t quite figure it out.

【Why does our little sister keep sneaking glances at Big Brother? And her eyes… they look kind of admiring.】

Juanjuan, suddenly hearing her third brother’s inner thoughts: !!

The little girl quickly looked away.

Bai Yun’an raised an eyebrow. Coincidence?

【That glance away was awfully timed. And she looked guilty, like she just got caught doing something.】

Juanjuan’s heart skipped a beat, and a cold sweat broke out on her back.

Her little brain was working overtime, practically overheating. But thankfully, her new brain was top-notch.

Juanjuan turned her back to her third brother and started clinging to her mother.

    It’s fine, it’s fine.

As long as she didn’t look at Third Brother, and he didn’t look at her, everything would be okay.

Third Brother was just too scary and too smart. How could he possibly guess what she was thinking?

Juanjuan felt so small and helpless, trembling inside.

With someone like Third Brother, just a few of her little movements were enough to make him suspicious.

If anyone dared to speak carelessly and reveal Third Brother’s secret…

Juanjuan’s clever little brain already knew—if she let even a tiny bit slip, with how smart Third Brother was, he’d figure out she could hear things that normal people couldn’t. All with just a flick of his pinky.

But then she remembered how Third Brother always talked about earning her Favorability Points. So maybe… just maybe, he’d treat her a little more—

Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed from outside.

Juanjuan turned toward the sound and saw a figure in purple rush into the house.

Li Pingqing burst in, his voice low and urgent. “Madam Jiang, Brother Bai, are you sure it was Kang An who attacked you?”

Jiang Dai immediately sensed something was off. For him to come rushing in like this and ask that right away—something wasn’t right.

“Not completely sure,” she replied cautiously. “But recently, he’s the only one who’s been giving us trouble. No one else could’ve hired people like that.”

Her answer left room for doubt.

Li Pingqing’s eyes darkened. He looked at them and said, enunciating each word clearly, “He’s dead.”
