Chapter 11: The Scumbag CEO’s Pursuit (Part 2)

“Explain what?” Lu Wanrong lowered her eyelids and gave a faint smile. Even though she had decided to draw a clear line with Fu Yu, hearing the woman’s voice on the other end of the phone still made her heartache uncontrollably.

Lu Wanrong closed her eyes, adjusted her emotions for a long time, and said, “Since Miss Fu is busy, you should go ahead.”

“We can discuss the divorce after you finish your work.”

With that, she hung up the phone.

Holding a bag of chips in her arms, Lu Qian had been eavesdropping on Lu Wanrong’s conversation. Hearing this, she immediately clapped her hands in approval. “Sis, you should have divorced that scumbag Fu Yu already.”

Yes, get divorced, the sooner the better. Then, my sister can find someone wealthier, and both her sister-in-law or brother-in-law will buy her more and more expensive things.

Lu Wanrong gave her a cold stare. “You didn’t used to say that.”

Her gaze was sharp, and Lu Qian guiltily looked away, whispering, “I’m also thinking for your sake, sis. Fu Yu is always messing around outside, one day with a young star, the next with an internet celebrity. Look, today there are even rumors online about her and the actress Ning Jiao Jiao entering a hotel together.”

Lu Wanrong slapped away the phone Lu Qian handed over. She didn’t want to see it or know about it. Soon, she would divorce Fu Yu anyway, and they would have nothing to do with each other. Whatever Fu Yu did was no longer her concern.

Just recently, she submitted her resignation to the station. Once it was approved, she would leave the city to find a job elsewhere. With her impressive resume and extensive work experience, finding a decent job wouldn’t be difficult.

In this lifetime, she decided to live for herself.

Yu Liuxue put down the phone, and Ning Jiao Jiao, still pleased with her cleverness, shivered under a cold gaze. She quickly raised her head. “Miss Fu?”

“Who told you to speak?” Yu Liuxue stared at her, her aura cold, unfamiliar when unsmiling.

Ning Jiao Jiao panicked, rushing over to Yu Liuxue. “Miss Fu, that’s not it. I just thought you’d be talking with Lu Wanrong for a long time, so I wanted to leave the room for you two.”

With teary eyes, she continued, “Miss Fu, it’s so upsetting to be misunderstood like this.”

“I never thought I could be just like the other women in your heart…”

During the last mission, Yu Liuxue had been an utterly naive white lotus. How could she not see Ning Jiao Jiao’s little tricks? However, she was now more focused on finding Lu Wanrong and didn’t wish to argue with Ning Jiao Jiao. Grabbing her bag, she gazed intently at Ning Jiao Jiao. “Don’t feel inferior. Be confident. In my heart, you’re no different from other women.”

Ning Jiao Jiao looked incredulous. “Miss Fu…”

The response was the sound of a door closing.

Yu Liuxue hadn’t expected this to become so complicated. Pressing the elevator button, she addressed the system, “Sweetheart, why are we turning against each other?”

“If my task fails, your evaluation won’t pass either, right? If your evaluation doesn’t pass, finding another host as clever, gentle, and kind as me would be difficult. I’m telling you, those women aren’t like me; they’re vicious tigers, only wanting the benefits of a golden finger without actually completing any tasks…”

Yu Liuxue talked non-stop, but unfortunately, her system had activated the do-not-disturb mode and didn’t hear a word.

Rushing back to the villa she shared with Lu Wanrong, she noticed it was dark, and her heart sank. Before, Lu Wanrong would always make sure dinner was ready and wait for Fu Yu to come home, though the original host never did. For years, she kept this habit. But tonight, Yu Liuxue parked outside and stared at the dark house, her heart growing cold.

Lu Wanrong was serious this time.

Yu Liuxue entered, turned on the light, and threw her high heels into the middle of the living room. Barefoot on the cold floor, she paced around, scratching her head, and finally called Lu Wanrong.

The call connected quickly, and Yu Liuxue pretended to be calm. “Wanrong, why didn’t you come home tonight?”

Lu Wanrong replied calmly, “Is Miss Fu done with her work?”

“If so, can we start discussing the divorce?”

Yu Liuxue frowned slightly, adapting to Fu Yu’s usual demeanor, and stated calmly through her anger, “Lu Wanrong, I already said, I’m not getting a divorce. Come home now.”

    “Beep, beep, beep…”

Yu Liuxue: “…” This is truly a pursuit-turned-cremation ground!

Heavens, why must you doom me!

Yu Liuxue was left in tears of regret.

“Where is Lu Wanrong?” She picked up her car keys, prepared to find Lu Wanrong, but received no response from the system.

    Yu Liuxue called again, “Sweetheart?”

    “…” Silence.

Yu Liuxue was furious. “This darn system dares to shut me out?!”

The system felt vaguely that someone was cursing it, so it immediately turned off the do-not-disturb mode, trying to remain calm while feeling quite baffled. “Host?”

“Quick, tell me where Lu Wanrong is!”

At this moment, Lu Wanrong was in a small rental apartment Lu Qian rented. While she was getting water, the doorbell rang. She opened the door to a refined and poised face.

Seizing the momentary surprise, Yu Liuxue quickly slipped inside. She exchanged a look with Lu Qian, both of them turning away in mutual dislike. Yu Liuxue intended to freeload there for the night, hiding her car keys in her pocket. “Wanrong, I forgot to bring the house key.”

    Lu Qian sneered, “Liar.”

“The rich Miss Fu has so many homes. I don’t believe you don’t have a single key. Even if you don’t, surely the wealthy Fu family can afford a hotel?”

Mentioning hotels, Lu Wanrong’s expression changed slightly, realizing she’d said something inappropriate. Begrudgingly, she felt justified as she continued, “You can afford to book a room with an actress…”

“Don’t talk nonsense,” Yu Liuxue reprimanded Lu Qian sternly. “I was discussing business with Ning Jiaojiao.”

“Yes, discussing business. You rich people always end up discussing things in bed.”

Lu Wanrong glanced sharply at Lu Qian, who sullenly glared at Fu Yu and continued playing on her phone. Yu Liuxue expectantly looked at Lu Wanrong, her eyes bright and full of spirit, just as enticing as their first encounter. One glance at her inadvertently and Lu Wanrong found herself lost and overwhelmed by the light in those affectionate eyes.

Lu Wanrong couldn’t explain her feelings, but for the first time, she saw Fu Yu worried, rushing over late at night to find her.

“As you wish.” Lu Wanrong coldly picked up her water glass, neither driving Yu Liuxue out nor leaving her a place to sleep.

Lu Qian laughed maliciously, “So you got your comeuppance.”

She lifted her chin arrogantly and pointed at the floor. “Tonight, you sleep on the ground.”

The room wasn’t soundproof, so the conversation outside was perfectly clear. While the weather was warming, the nights were still cold. As Lu Wanrong’s bare foot touched the ground, a chilling cold seeped in, and she quickly withdrew, bitterly reflecting: Soon, she’ll be divorced from Fu Yu, and whether Fu Yu lived or died wouldn’t matter to her.

Lu Wanrong turned off the light.

Yu Liuxue never expected that upon entering this world, she’d be reduced to sleeping on the floor, without even a couch. She whined to the system, “Sweetheart, how could you do this to me?”

Lu Qian tossed Yu Liuxue a little blanket, her tone vicious like a stepmother. “That’s all there is. Take it or leave it.”

Yu Liuxue toughened up momentarily, expressionless as she spread the blanket beside the sofa.

Watching the high and mighty Miss Fu reduced to pitifully sleeping in this shabby apartment delighted Lu Qian. Did she ever think she’d be in this situation when treating Lu Wanrong so aloofly? Lu Qian turned off the living room lights, thinking that as long as she lived, Fu Yu would never harm her sister again.

The floor was hard and cold, leaving Yu Liuxue drifting in and out of sleep, her body aching.

When Lu Wanrong emerged from her room, the first thing she saw was Yu Liuxue lying on the floor. Rushing over last night, Yu Liuxue hadn’t brought anything along. Her makeup was intact, clothes unchanged, her black hair spread in disarray on the floor, offering a tragic beauty.

Lu Wanrong lingered on the scene. She didn’t resemble her usual pristine and poised self. Instead, she looked like a homeless puppy, helplessly hugging her own arms.

But that was all she felt.

Lu Wanrong dismissed her compassion and prepared to step over Yu Liuxue to wash up. Hearing the movement, Yu Liuxue opened her eyes, dazed. Yet, when her gaze met Lu Wanrong’s, understanding flickered and an inner light shone forth.

    Lu Wanrong’s heart fluttered.

“Wanrong, you’re awake. Let me drive you to work.” Yu Liuxue intended to perform well in front of the protagonist, but as soon as she moved, an unbearable pain shot through her left leg, and begrudgingly, she winced: a cramp.

Instinctively, Lu Wanrong bent down to help her, but Lu Qian, who’d been woken, asked sleepily, “Sis, what is it?”

Startled awake, Lu Wanrong withdrew her hand from her suit near Yu Liuxue’s leg and composed herself, “Nothing.”

Yu Liuxue watched Lu Wanrong coldly pass by her.

Lu Qian noticed and realized the interloper was still here. Fully awake, she sat on the sofa, expressionless, addressing Yu Liuxue, “Miss Fu, if you don’t love my sister, then have the decency to divorce her.”

“Don’t be a pest. Don’t make me look down on you.”

Yu Liuxue lowered her relieved leg, stood up supporting herself on the sofa, and looked down at Lu Qian with a confident smirk. “We’re not getting divorced.”

Yu Liuxue smoothed her messy hair, straightened her wrinkled clothes, and grabbed her coat, snatching her car keys. Turning to give Lu Qian an arrogant smile, she declared, “I don’t care if you look down on me or not. As for Lu Wanrong, I will never let go in this life.”
