Chapter 6: *Smack!* A Slap Out of Nowhere

So, in order to stay in character,
Bai Yunqi forced himself to mimic Goudan’s tone and personality.

“Dad, it hurts! I want eggs!”

“Where’s our hen? Stew it, stew it!”

As he spoke, he flailed around on the bed, throwing a tantrum.

Bai Yunqi: 【This is disgusting. Why did I have to Borrow a Corpse to Resurrect the Soul into some bratty eight-year-old?!】

Even as he wailed and thrashed in line with the original host’s behavior, he was quietly observing his parents.

Logically, this was the part where Mom and Dad would come over to comfort him.

    But right now…

Both parents were staring at him with grim, awkward expressions, as if seriously considering…

Whether they should each give him a slap.

Bai Yunqi’s crying gradually weakened, then faded altogether.

The whole family fell into a brief silence.

But to Juanjuan, it was still unbearably noisy.

Eldest Brother: 【Wait, what’s going on? Why are they looking at me like that? I’m acting exactly like Goudan would! I’ve nailed it!】

Mom: 【This is our eldest son? This kind of little terror? He’s eight? A poor man’s crown prince? I really want to slap him! He’s infuriating!】

Dad: 【Sure, he’s always been like this in my memories, but damn, he’s still so annoying! What a little menace!】

Juanjuan hadn’t yet figured out what her parents meant by their words when—

Her Eldest Brother started up again, even louder than before.

    “I don’t care, I don’t care! I’m hungry, and I’m in pain!”

【Forget it, I must not have sold it well enough. Let me give it one more go!】

Bai Yunqi kept hyping himself up, shamefully throwing himself into the act, all to avoid anyone realizing Goudan had been replaced.

    “You!”

As he ranted, Bai Yunqi suddenly pointed a fierce finger at Juanjuan, who was huddled in the corner.

“Get your ass in the kitchen and make me some food!!”

    Juanjuan: ?

She flinched, her body jerking as she instinctively turned to go cook for her Eldest Brother.

    【Nope, I can’t take this anymore! He’s just a damn kid!】

Jiang Dai’s hand, hanging at her side, twitched with the urge to rise.

But someone beat her to it.

    *Smack!*

Bai Tian’s slap came fast, clean, and merciless, landing squarely on his eldest son’s back.

Of course Bai Yunqi sensed the movement, but he forced himself not to dodge, taking the hit head-on.

Watching his son get knocked down by that slap, Bai Tian took a deep breath and barked,

“Goudan! I dare you to say that again!”

“Look around you—what kind of house do you think this is?! Eggs? Stewing the hen? Just because you’re the eldest doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want!”

Jiang Dai was just about to enjoy the show of her husband disciplining the kid when she noticed their little daughter staring wide-eyed at the scene.

“Come here, come here. Don’t be scared, Juanjuan, come to Mama.”

Jiang Dai scooped her daughter into her arms, gently patting her shoulder to comfort her.

Juanjuan stared blankly at her dad and Eldest Brother.

Bai Yunqi was just as stunned.

    【Wait, is this guy nuts?】

【Wasn’t he the biggest scumbag in the house? Drinking, beating people, gambling away everything we had—how does he have the nerve to act all righteous now?!】

    “Ahem, ahem!”

Bai Tian, under his eldest son’s gaze, seemed to suddenly recall all the crap the original host had pulled in the past.

Before his son could speak, he rushed to get ahead of the situation.

“Your father has seen the light after this ordeal! From now on, I’m turning over a new leaf!”

Bai Tian: 【Gotta stick to the new persona! Tell everyone I’m changing my ways!】

Jiang Dai nodded in satisfaction: 【Admitting your faults is the first step to redemption! Looks like I really am the one who’s going to change this whole family as a Transmigrator.】

She had just finished that thought when her little daughter looked up at her.

    “What is it, Juanjuan?”
