    Chapter 3

Xie Hui recalled how the original host valued his career more than his own life. Without much hesitation, he skillfully decided not to acknowledge it.

Holding his son in his arms, he earnestly said:

“Baby, Daddy worked hard before because I wanted to provide you with a better environment and future. Work is important, but to me, you are the most important.”

“Daddy doesn’t want to miss your growth because of work. If I did, I would regret it in the future.”

Little Xie Ze’s lips curved high when he heard these words.

“Then I’ll accompany Daddy at work!”

During dinner, Xie Hui carefully took care of little Xie Ze, patiently removing the fish bones for him.

Usually, Xie Ze was well-behaved when eating and never needed the nanny to coax him. Today was no different. Taking care of such a child was effortless.

After dinner, Xie Hui took Xie Ze for a walk in the backyard. The setting sun cast a golden glow over the flowers and plants.

Holding his son’s chubby little hand, Xie Hui walked along the path. Looking at the many empty spaces in the backyard, he squatted down to be at eye level with his little boy.

“Baby, what kind of flowers do you like?”

Hearing this, Xie Ze furrowed his brows tightly. Afraid his dad would get impatient waiting, he finally answered after a while:

    “I like sunflowers.”

“Tomorrow, I’ll have my assistant buy some seeds, and we’ll plant sunflowers here, okay?”

Xie Ze nodded. Following the direction of his dad’s finger, he stared at the bare ground, imagining a scene of sunflowers in full bloom.

As night fell, after taking a bath and changing into fresh clothes, Xie Hui planned to check on his son and tell him a bedtime story.

But as soon as he opened the door, he saw a little chubby kid standing in front of it, clutching a cartoon pillow in his arms.

The original host had no background but managed to make it in the entertainment industry, so his looks were naturally above average. The ex-girlfriend he once loved was also very beautiful.

With both parents being attractive, their child was, of course, exceptionally good-looking. Xie Ze took after Xie Hui more, especially in the shape of his eyes and brows.

Dressed in a plush pajama set, Xie Ze stood in front of his dad’s room, hugging his pillow. He mustered his courage several times but didn’t dare to knock.

Just as he was about to lower his head and go back, the door opened. Feeling guilty, Xie Ze tried to hide his pillow behind his back.

“Are you afraid to sleep alone?”

His dad’s voice came from above. Having slept alone since childhood, Xie Ze didn’t want to lie, so he frowned, unsure how to answer.

Xie Hui noticed the little one’s hesitation and squatted down to pick him up.

From his initial clumsiness to now, Xie Hui had become quite adept at holding his son.

Dressed in a fluffy yellow chick onesie, Xie Ze looked adorably obedient.

“Daddy is afraid of sleeping alone. Will baby keep Daddy company?”

    “Okay.”

Xie Ze answered crisply. He tossed the extra pillow on the double bed to the couch and placed his cartoon pillow next to his dad’s.

Then, he burrowed under the covers, staring at his dad with big, bright eyes, looking incredibly well-behaved.

Since Xie Hui was new to parenting, he didn’t have much experience. Bedtime was a perfect moment to chat with his child.

“Daddy knows I didn’t do well before. I was too busy with work and didn’t have time to be with you as you grew up.”

He first found an excuse for the original host’s neglect to smooth over any resentment in the child’s heart. Besides clearing things up, Xie Hui genuinely didn’t want his son to misunderstand and think his father didn’t love him.

“This is Daddy’s first time being a dad. If I don’t do something well, please tell me, okay?”

Xie Ze shifted his small body and snuggled into Xie Hui’s arms, tilting his head up to look at his dad. His smile was so bright, like a little mouse that had successfully stolen lard.

“Daddy didn’t do anything wrong. Daddy is great.”

After explaining everything, Xie Hui began telling stories to help his son fall asleep.

Xie Ze originally thought his dad would tell him princess and prince fairy tales, but instead, he heard fascinating mythology. He was completely captivated.

“It’s very late now. Baby needs to sleep. If you want to hear more, I’ll tell you tomorrow night, okay?”

Xie Ze wasn’t very sleepy yet, especially since the mythical world his dad described was so enticing. But he didn’t want to make things difficult for his dad, so he obediently nodded and closed his eyes.

Before falling asleep, Xie Ze silently scolded several people in his heart.

So those uncles and aunties were lying to him! Daddy didn’t dislike him at all—Daddy loved him the most!

Within minutes, Xie Hui heard his little boy’s steady breathing.

The nanny had used a milk-scented body wash for the little one’s bath tonight. The sweet scent mixed with the unique pinewood fragrance from Xie Hui, forming a warm and distinct smell of home.

Meanwhile, the Newbie System hid behind the electronic screen, watching their interactions and recording everything to send back to headquarters.

Finally having tamed a rebellious host, the main system felt immensely satisfied. No matter how unruly someone was, they would still have to tell bedtime stories and coax their kid to sleep in front of their child.

In fact, the Lord God had once arranged romance plotlines for this troublemaker. In those small worlds, Xie Hui was always the beloved protagonist, but he was completely uninterested.

Back then, Xie Hui had broken through a world, barged in front of the Lord God, and arrogantly declared that a life without love was free and light, that love would only hinder his progress.

Who would have thought that what this troublemaker needed wasn’t a woman to reform him, but a soft, adorable little kid to melt his heart?

Early the next morning, the original host’s biological clock woke Xie Hui up.

Opening his eyes, he saw his little boy still sleeping soundly beside him, snoring like a tiny piglet.

The original host had a habit of early morning workouts. In the entertainment industry, male celebrities were also under strict scrutiny—if they slacked off even a little in body management, they could be labeled as chubby or out of shape at public events.

At twenty-six, the original host was still considered young in the industry. He took his career seriously and was extremely strict with himself.

Xie Hui had no intention of changing the original host’s good habits. He got out of bed quietly, went to the dressing room to change into sportswear, and headed out for his workout.

When he returned from his morning run, towel in hand to wipe his sweat, he saw a little chubby figure running barefoot down the stairs.

Xie Ze ran straight to his dad, looking at his workout outfit before finally letting out a sigh of relief.

Children could always sense adult emotions. Sensing his dad’s indulgence, Xie Ze clung to his leg like a little koala.

    “I thought Daddy left again…”
