Stealing ML’s White Moonlight C06
by MarineTLChapter 6
You Changqing felt the warmth on her wrist, and her heart warmed along with it. She hadn’t expected Shen Lihuan to protect her so bravely. Since childhood, she had been taught not to be weak and not to rely on others, but for the first time, You Changqing experienced what it meant to feel safe.
She bit her lip and lowered her head slightly, a hint of shyness in her expression.
Shen Lihuan had no idea about the emotional turmoil within You Changqing. In reality, her entire attention was occupied by the soft, smooth sensation in her hand. She was seriously (but also not-so-seriously) lost in thought—no wonder people said girls were made of water. Changqing’s skin was incredibly smooth and delicate, so much so that she didn’t want to let go.
Neither of them was willing to let go, so neither brought it up. They walked intimately to the academic office to collect their books, then strolled back to the classroom, shoulder to shoulder.
The second class was English. As the new student, Shen Lihuan immediately attracted the teacher’s attention and was called on to answer questions throughout the lesson.
In her past life, Shen Lihuan had lived abroad for three years. Her English proficiency was on par with her Chinese, and even after the apocalypse, when she became a base leader, she frequently had to negotiate with foreign leaders in English. So, she had no fear of the subject.
Her fluent English left You Changqing completely mesmerized.
Neither Shen Lihuan nor You Changqing stayed in the dorms. When school ended at noon, they walked out of the gates together. The Shen family’s chauffeur was already waiting, but Shen Pingting had yet to come out.
“Shen, my ride is here. I’ll head back first—see you in the afternoon.”
Reluctantly, You Changqing bid farewell. Just then, the wind lifted her long hair, and Shen Lihuan instinctively reached out, tucking it gently behind her ear. You Changqing blinked, her ears instantly turning pink.
Shen Lihuan smiled at her. “I’ve already started calling you Changqing—why are you still calling me ‘Shen’? That sounds so distant. Call me Lihuan.”
For the first time, Shen Lihuan realized that when girls became close friends, they naturally wanted to stick together and act affectionately. Even the way they addressed each other had to be as intimate as possible. Her cousin hadn’t lied about that.
You Changqing squeezed her burning earlobe, looked into Shen Lihuan’s gentle eyes, and softly murmured, “Lihuan.”
“Mm, you calling my name sounds really nice.”
Shen Lihuan, completely unaware of how flirtatious she was being, smiled and ruffled You Changqing’s hair before gentlemanly sending her into the car. “See you in the afternoon, Changqing.”
“See you in the afternoon.”
You Changqing’s face was burning from the interaction, but with the family chauffeur sitting in the front seat, she had to suppress the urge to cover her face and maintain a composed expression.
The driver, oblivious to her reaction, curiously asked, “I haven’t seen that girl before. Is she one of your friends, Miss You?”
You Changqing, unwilling to discuss Shen Lihuan with an outsider, simply gave a cold “Mm.”
The chauffeur, knowing her aloof nature, didn’t press further and drove straight toward the You family estate.
After You Changqing left, Shen Lihuan got into her own car and leaned back against the seat, recalling the plot of the book.
This book had ended up in her hands by pure chance. In the post-apocalyptic world, owning a physical book was already considered lucky, so even though it was a harem novel, she had still given it a read.
In the original story, Qin Aocheng was just an average, unimpressive guy until his second year of high school when he was suddenly bound to a Conquest System. With the system’s help, he became a rising star in the entertainment industry, excelling in songwriting, singing, acting, screenwriting, and directing.
In Green Nation, copyright laws were strictly enforced, and piracy was illegal. Those caught pirating or selling pirated goods faced a mandatory thirty-year prison sentence. Relying on his substantial copyright royalties, Qin Aocheng gradually became a wealthy tycoon. Countless women threw themselves at him, and he accepted them all. He even set a record for sleeping with a mother and daughter at the same time.
The sheer depravity disgusted Shen Lihuan so much that she barely skimmed through the later parts of the story. The ending showed Qin Aocheng overthrowing the monopoly of the Shen, You, and Jun families and establishing the Qin family as the new elite powerhouse.
From beginning to end, Qin Aocheng was never short of women. You Changqing was the only female character in the book who disliked him—no, loathed him. Qin Aocheng, unable to win her over, took revenge on the You family, forcing them into bankruptcy in an attempt to make You Changqing submit to him. But You Changqing escaped Green Nation with her family and settled in Blue Nation. Qin Aocheng, constantly surrounded by women, never had the time to chase after her, so he could only regretfully keep her in his heart, forever treating her as his unattainable White Moonlight.
How delusional. As if someone like him could ever be worthy of Changqing.
But what puzzled Shen Lihuan was that the book never mentioned the her family—not a single word, as if they had never existed.
Suddenly, a thought struck her. When she had first woken up, it was at the moment of her family’s car accident. If she hadn’t transmigrated into this body, would all three of them have died in that crash?
That would explain why they were never mentioned in the book.
Just as Shen Lihuan was massaging her temples, Shen Pingting finally emerged, saying goodbye to a well-dressed male student before getting into the car with a bright smile.
“Lihuan, did you see? That guy is my friend. Next time, I’ll introduce you two. He doesn’t have a girlfriend yet.”
Shen Lihuan, upon seeing Shen Pingting, suddenly recalled a passage from the book:
Shen Pingting became the president of the Shen Corporation at just eighteen. Her friends envied her and flattered her over drinks.
Holding a glass of wine, Shen Pingting chuckled, her gaze hazy, ‘Well, I was just lucky to be born into the Shen family. My second uncle’s family wasn’t as fortunate. They managed to return to the Imperial Capital from Lan City, yet they lost their lives.’
Her friends looked at her in shock. One of them made a throat-slitting gesture, silently asking if she was responsible.
Shen Pingting smiled lazily, took a sip of wine, and, perhaps drunk, casually said, ‘Not me. I’d guess it was that pitiful little Qingrong Fairy instead.’
The “second uncle’s family” she referred to must have been Shen Lihuan’s family. If what Shen Pingting said was true, then the person who orchestrated the car accident to kill them was someone named Qingrong.
Who is she? Why would she want my entire family dead?
Looking at Shen Pingting, who was still waiting for a response, Shen Lihuan casually replied, “We’ll see.”
“Hey, you said it—I’ll hold you to it.”
Ignoring whether Shen Lihuan was actually interested, Shen Pingting made the decision on her own. But Shen Lihuan, drowning in questions, had no time to deal with her. No matter what Shen Pingting was plotting, she wasn’t going to let it happen.
Back at the Shen residence, Liang Yinqiu was elegantly arranging flowers. The vivid red roses made her hands appear even paler.
Shen Lihuan gazed at the roses and suddenly smiled.
How could I forget? I may not be able to monitor Shen Pingting and Liang Yinqiu directly, but I can use plants as my eyes and ears.
Her instincts had always been sharp—she refused to believe that these two had no involvement in the accident.
