Due to the scarcity of usable factories, the former Standard Parts Plant had now been converted into a precision instrument manufacturing facility.
After a series of expansions, the factory was now fully equipped to handle the entire production process of a Color TV.
Shen Xiuyan’s eldest brother, Shen Yuanming, had originally been a technical worker at the factory. After a promotion, he now held a small leadership role.
He never imagined the factory would one day undergo reform, let alone that he’d be helping produce the Color TV his younger brother had personally developed.
So every day at work, he held himself to the highest standards, demanding perfection from every worker at every step of the process. He was terrified that even the slightest defect in the TVs might tarnish his brother’s reputation.
But the factory supervisor didn’t see it that way. The higher-ups were currently focused on ramping up production. As long as his output was faster than other factories, he’d earn praise.
So he only cared about speed, completely ignoring product quality.
That day, the two clashed again in a heated argument.
“Well, well, Shen Yuanming, you just have to go against me, don’t you?” Supervisor Jia stood with hands on hips, cursing furiously.
Shen Yuanming remained calm. “I’m not going against you, but quality matters. You wouldn’t want to end up buying a faulty product yourself, would you?”
Supervisor Jia frowned. “Why are you so hard to talk to? You keep saying our quality’s bad, but all our units pass testing. Will they break the moment they’re used? No. If they break after a while, that’s not our problem!”
Shen Yuanming’s face darkened. “Who’s the one being unreasonable here? These things are expensive. If they break after a short time, it’ll ruin our reputation!”
Supervisor Jia scoffed. “Ruin what reputation? If they want to buy, they have to come to us. And anyway, this is a new product. If it breaks, it’s because they don’t know how to use it!”
“You—!” Shen Yuanming was so furious he was practically stomping his feet. “I get that you want to rush production, but this isn’t the way to do it!”
Supervisor Jia didn’t want to argue anymore. He jabbed a finger at Shen Yuanming’s nose and shouted, “You punk, what do you know? Time is money, got it? This is about the factory’s bottom line. If you keep this up, I’ll go straight to the director and have you fired!”
He was the factory director’s brother-in-law, after all. Getting Shen Yuanming fired would be as easy as saying the word.
Just then, a slow clap echoed from the side.
“Well, well, such impressive authority~” came a voice laced with mockery.
Supervisor Jia frowned and turned to look. Who was this troublemaker now? He stared carefully—didn’t recognize him.
All the better. No need to be polite. “Get lost. Who the hell asked for your opinion?”
Shen Yuanming also turned to look, and the moment their eyes met, he felt a little awkward.
Ah… it was Xiuyan.
Great, now his little brother was going to watch him get humiliated again…
Shen Xiuyan crossed his arms. “Oh? And why don’t I get to speak?”
Supervisor Jia snapped, “Which production line are you from? Give me your name. Then you can go home for the day. This factory doesn’t need you.”
“Tut tut tut,” Shen Xiuyan chuckled. “Name’s Shen Xiuyan.”
Supervisor Jia: “Got it. Now get lost.”
“Why should I? If anyone’s leaving, it’s you.”
Supervisor Jia bellowed, “Someone get over here! Security! Throw him out!”
Afraid the security guards might accidentally rough up Shen Xiuyan, Shen Yuanming rushed over to calm things down. “Xiuyan, take it easy. Don’t stoop to his level.”
Shen Xiuyan slung an arm around his brother’s neck and said, “Bro, how come you never told me your factory had someone like this? Keeping secrets now, huh?”
“I—I can handle it.”
Shen Yuanming rubbed his nose awkwardly. He couldn’t just go running to his little brother every time something happened. Where would that leave his dignity as the older brother?
“Handle it? He’s practically crapping on your head already.” Shen Xiuyan waved a hand. “My brother, getting bullied by someone like him? Not happening.”
Supervisor Jia suddenly realized, “Ohhh, so you’re his little brother. No wonder you’re so arrogant. Let me give you some advice—if you know what’s good for you, take him and get the hell out!”
“Supervisor, you called us?” Security arrived just in time.
Supervisor Jia barked, “Throw them both out! From now on, they’re no longer part of this factory!”
The head of security looked at Shen Xiuyan, then at Supervisor Jia, clearly bewildered.
Wasn’t this the VIP the factory director had been carefully entertaining earlier today?
How could the supervisor talk to him like that?
Had the negotiations fallen apart?
That didn’t make sense. The Color TV was his invention, and the patent was still in his hands. The factory’s entire future depended on this guy. They should be treating him like a god, not kicking him out.
Seeing the security team frozen in place, Supervisor Jia exploded. “What are you standing around for?! Throw them out already!”
The guards thought to themselves: No way we’re throwing him out. Didn’t Supervisor Jia see those burly guys around the VIP?
From their years of experience, those men had definitely seen combat. If they dared lay a finger on the VIP, who knew who’d be the one getting tossed?
Sensing things were going sideways, the head of security quickly pulled Supervisor Jia aside.
Maybe he’d just gotten back from a trip and didn’t know what was going on. Time for a quick reality check.
“Supervisor, can I have a word?”
Supervisor Jia shoved his hand away. “What word? You don’t want your job either, is that it?!”
The head of security: Is this guy an idiot or what? Why won’t he listen to reason?
By now, a crowd had gathered and the commotion had grown too loud. The factory director, who had been confirming some details with Shen Xiuyan’s assistant, hurried over.
The moment he saw what was happening, the director asked cautiously, “What’s going on here?”
No one answered right away.
But Wang Hua, catching sight of Supervisor Jia’s twisted, furious expression, was startled. He rushed over and shielded Shen Xiuyan with his body.
“Teacher Shen, are you alright?!”
He anxiously checked Shen Xiuyan from head to toe, terrified that something might’ve happened.
Once he confirmed everything was fine, Wang Hua finally let out a sigh of relief.
Then he turned and scolded the men who were supposed to be protecting Shen Xiuyan. “What were you doing?! That guy was so aggressive—what if he scared Teacher Shen? That brilliant mind of his needs rest if it’s shaken up! Can you make up for that lost time? Huh? Can you?!”
A bunch of useless fools. He’d only been gone for a few minutes and this happened?
If anything had gone wrong, none of them could afford the consequences. Dean Qiu alone would’ve skinned him alive. Just thinking about it made him shiver. Dean Qiu was nowhere near as easygoing as Shen Xiuyan…
The soldiers guarding Shen Xiuyan looked aggrieved.
From their perspective, it was just a one-sided shouting match. They couldn’t exactly charge in and beat the guy up without cause…
That would make them look like thugs—and tarnish Teacher Shen’s reputation.
