Chapter 110: Educated Youth Who Abandoned His Wife and Child – 42

The elderly professors all stared over with displeasure. Director Wang trembled all over in fright.

Only then did Shen Xiuyan look satisfied. He gave a slight smile and, catching his breath, said, “But a simple demonstration is still doable.”

The professors lit up with joy, their kind and gentle gazes shifting back to him.

Director Wang finally let out a sigh of relief.

Looking at the slight smile on Shen Xiuyan’s lips, he secretly grumbled—why did it feel like this was on purpose?

This sly little fox… he must be getting back at him for what happened earlier…

Over on the other side, Shen Xiuyan demonstrated while patiently explaining to the professors in detail.

From time to time, the professors exclaimed with sounds like “Wow,” “Oh,” and “My God.”

As he got into the theories behind the development, the more they listened, the more shocked they became—this computer was far more complex than they had imagined.

They could confidently say this machine was decades ahead of anything internationally.

Because after just a short while, they realized they could barely understand a thing. They began to space out, staring at Shen Xiuyan in astonishment.

Just how did that little head of his grow?

They all ate the same rice—why was he so brilliant?

So many theoretical deductions they couldn’t grasp—where on earth had he learned them?

One professor, burning with curiosity, couldn’t hold back and asked aloud.

Shen Xiuyan smiled faintly and gave a pre-prepared answer: “There are so many theories in books. It’s not that hard to infer and expand upon them based on the key concepts, is it?”

As he spoke, he nudged a thick stack of books beside him.

A curious professor picked one up and flipped through it. Sure enough—it was all beyond him.

He quickly flipped through several more, finally finding one that fell within his field of expertise.

The professor was stunned. “You’ve read and understood all of these?”

If he wasn’t mistaken, these books covered multiple disciplines and fields. Even national-level researchers might not be able to extrapolate from these. How had this kid managed it?

Shen Xiuyan humbly bragged: “Of course I understand them. It’s just basic stuff. Don’t tell me you don’t understand it?”

    The professors: “……”

    Right. They didn’t understand it…

They might be fine within their own fields, but for everything else? Not a chance. Shen Xiuyan was really overestimating them.

And even if they did understand—so what?

They still couldn’t build a computer that was ahead of the entire world.

Perhaps this was the difference between a genius and an ordinary person.

Yes, in the professors’ minds, Shen Xiuyan was now unquestionably a genius.

He was only halfway through explaining the computer, but the material had grown so complex that the professors couldn’t understand a single sentence anymore.

They stopped zoning out—this was getting serious.

One of the older ones clutched his chest. “Wait, wait, young man, hold on. Don’t go on. If you keep talking, we won’t be able to understand any of it.”

Shen Xiuyan looked back with a confused gaze.

The professor felt deeply wounded inside. Stop looking at him like that—he admitted it, okay? He was an old useless man. What was the point of living this long, only to get questioned by a student…

Another professor hurried to support his stricken colleague and then turned to shout at Director Wang: “Old Wang! What are you still standing there for? Go contact the national research institutes! The state security bureau, the confidentiality office—whoever you can get, get them here!”

This was far too significant. It was no longer something their university could handle.

Director Wang hadn’t expected Shen Xiuyan’s invention to be this serious.

Though he’d also thought the computer was unusual, he’d figured it was just an upgraded version of the two models already in the school. But judging by the professors’ expressions—it was far more than that.

He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and immediately went off to call the principal for backup.

Feeling that something was going terribly wrong, Chen Zhigang timidly raised his hand. “Director… can I go now?”

He just had a bad feeling that if he didn’t leave now, he never would.

Turned out his instincts were spot on—it was already too late.

Before Director Wang could even answer, the professors had started speaking over each other:

    “No, you can’t leave.”

    “Stay right where you are.”

“You heard all that and you still want to leave? Think you can?”

Chen Zhigang was nearly scared to tears. What had he done to deserve this? He was just walking past the room and now he was caught up in something this big…

The professors sounded like they were about to silence him for good.

Trembling, he said, “I’m… I’m from the Art Department. I didn’t understand a single word you all just said…”

One professor glared at him. “Stand still! So what if you say you didn’t understand? What if you memorized it? We’ll have to assess the situation before making any decisions. Until then, you stay right here.”

    “O-Okay…” Chen Zhigang sniffled, aggrieved.

Why him? Clearly it was Shen Xiuyan who invented the thing that was far ahead of its time—and yet he was the one terrified for his life.

He looked at Shen Xiuyan, who was surrounded by professors, receiving all their concern and praise, and felt the urge to scream: “Same people, different fates!”
Within ten minutes, the matter was reported up the chain—but no one really believed it.

It wasn’t until Q University’s president vouched for it personally, staking his reputation, that people finally started to take it seriously.

Within just one hour, everyone who should come—and even those who shouldn’t—had arrived, gathering on Q University’s campus.

The students were stunned. Why were there armed soldiers on campus? Was the country about to fall into chaos again?

No, please, they had only just begun to enjoy a few years of peace. Was another wave of turmoil really on the way?

The more timid ones had already huddled together, trembling in fear.

Fortunately, these people only briefly passed through the campus. They all looked hurried and purposeful, heading in the same direction—toward the Physics Department building.

The students let out a breath of relief. Some brave ones tried to follow to see what was going on. But before they could reach the building, they were blocked by armed soldiers.

    “Restricted area. No unauthorized entry.”

One student, undeterred, raised the textbook in his hand. “I-I-I’m here for class.”

The soldier’s expression was steely. Without saying another word, he straightened up and subtly shook his rifle.

    The student: “……”

    Right. He got the message.

Louder than words. He wasn’t getting in.

And if he tried to force his way in—he might as well say goodbye to his life.

The student wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He wasn’t going to mess with this. Nope. Time to slip away.

Within moments, rumors were flying across campus. All classes were canceled. Professors had already told their students: unless necessary, don’t wander around.

Students in self-study classrooms whispered to each other.

“What the heck is going on?”

“No clue. The Physics building’s completely locked down.”

“I heard someone stole some kind of national secret.”

“Where would our school get national secrets? I heard it’s a spy situation.”

“The more you talk, the more ridiculous it gets. Why would a spy come to our school? If you ask me, it’s more likely that some big shot is visiting.”

Everyone in the class had their own opinions, and no one could come to a conclusion for the time being. Only Su Mingyue gazed worriedly at the Physics Department’s teaching building.

Brother Xiuyan is still in there… Nothing bad will happen, right?
