Chapter 27: Upgrade Time – Add Five More Hours

Just as the Magic Plane faced an issue, the Transit Pass time for the Forest Plane was running low. For the next two days, they stayed on the island without using the Transit Pass again.

There wasn’t much happening on the island, so while they worked, Bai Miao taught them the language of the Magic Plane.

Although they were isolated from the world, the three sisters were always together, so they never felt lonely.

Bai Yu held a clean stone, gradually crushing the dried Flammable Grass in front of her. Once she was almost done, she turned to look at the beach where Bai Xi was helping Bai Miao collect shells and catch crabs.

This stretch of beach was entirely theirs, and it was easy to catch crabs and shells. However, they had plenty to eat and didn’t lack crabs, so they didn’t waste time catching them.

It was only today, with some free time, that the two of them played down by the shore.

    “Got another one!”

    “Miao Miao, you’re amazing!”

    “Hehe.”

Bai Yu stood on a not-too-high cliff, watching them with a smile spreading across her face.

The two noticed her at that moment and waved.

    “Eldest Sister, crabs.”

    “Eldest Sister, shells.”

“There are plenty of shells up here already, no need to bring more,” Bai Yu said helplessly. “Let the little crabs go too, there’s hardly any meat on them.”

The two obediently dropped the crabs and shells they were holding and soon resumed playing happily in the sand.

Bai Yu watched for a while, then packed the crushed grass into a large bamboo tube.

They had left in a hurry a few days ago, managing only to sell the Fire Starters without buying new wooden strips. Now she could only store the grass in the bamboo tube, planning to transfer it once they could buy the wooden strips.

Having played enough, Bai Xi and Bai Miao brought back a bucket with a few crabs inside.

“Why didn’t you catch a few more?” Bai Yu asked after a glance.

“There weren’t any larger ones, and this is enough to eat. Let’s steam a fish too,” Bai Xi replied, placing the bucket down. “Since we arrived on the island, we never seem to lack anything, especially fish, shrimp, and crabs, which we can catch whenever we want. It’s not like before when we sometimes returned empty-handed.”

Although they’d always lived on the water, being on the sea was entirely different. This small island was particularly unique. With no others nearby, the fish and shrimp in the waters were always abundant.

    “Alright, let’s add some shrimp.”

Bai Xi nodded and quickly went to the kitchen to start a fire.

The current kitchen wasn’t very big and was a bit dim inside, so after cooking, they ate outside.

The fish, shrimp, and crabs caught today still tasted fresh and flavorful when steamed. In fact, since arriving on the island, their food quality had improved, with no more stale fish or shrimp.

On the rare occasion they found any spoilage, they would throw it back into the sea and cast their net again.

As for the pickled fish, although it wasn’t considered spoiled, none of it had yet been eaten by them.

“Tomorrow morning, we’ll check out the Magic Plane. If possible, let’s see if there’s anything that can upgrade the Transit Pass. If not, we’ll have to rely on the island.”

    “Alright, we’ll be careful.”

The next morning, each carrying a fresh steamed bun obtained from the morning’s check-in, they discussed their plans for the Magic Plane.

The Transit Pass would always drop them at their previous exit point—this applied to the Forest Plane and the Magic Plane. Previously, they had always appeared near the Flammable Grass, never encountering people. But they had left from a market alley last time.

Two days had passed, and who knew what the situation was in the market now. Using the Transit Pass abruptly, they didn’t know whether they’d encounter people or monsters that hadn’t left.

In either case, they needed to return immediately.

The best-case scenario would be finding the alley empty, allowing them to stay in the Magic Plane and search for materials to extend their Transit Pass time.

Today’s check-in buns were generously sized. Bai Miao ate half the bun, along with all the filling, leaving behind the remaining half of the wrapper.

Bai Yu and Bai Xi shared what was left.

Feeling they had eaten enough, they sat crouching on the ship’s deck, hand in hand, letting Bai Miao handle the Transit Pass.

This way, the three of them presented a smaller target, making it harder to be noticed whether they encountered monsters or people, allowing them to choose to return promptly.

    “Proceed to Access?”

    “Proceed.”

Transit confirmed, in the blink of an eye, the three of them had arrived on the Magic Plane.

However, before them was not the secluded alleyway they had expected…

“Was it done by a monster?” Bai Xi said softly, “Such a large area of the market has been flattened.”

Their attempt to crouch was futile, as even a slight lift of their heads gave them a full view of the market. Apart from a few slightly elevated areas that escaped the monster’s massive feet, the rest had been crushed flat.

The three of them stood up and walked across the ground flattened by the monster’s footsteps.

After walking for a bit, they felt somewhat relieved. Although the place had been crushed like this, they hadn’t seen any bodies. This meant that when the monster came, most people had managed to escape from the market.

“Everyone here can use magic, they can fly away on their carpets. They must have all flown off,” Bai Yu confirmed again, “This place is better. If something like this happened back home, those people would be in trouble.”

“Yeah, such a massive monster turning around is like an earthquake, collapsing so many buildings. Without magic, there’d be no way to avoid it,” Bai Xi also breathed a sigh of relief, looking at the shops around them, “But they all left so quickly, leaving so much behind. Eldest Sister…”

“What if those people come back?” Bai Yu bit her lip.

In such a major incident, it was fortunate enough for people to escape. The items in the market were left untouched, and many of the upgrade lines from the Transit Pass pointed towards the market. This meant that there were definitely many items here needed for upgrading the Transit Pass.

But before this, these items had owners.

And it had only been two days since the monster came. The original residents of this area could return at any time to find their belongings.

Bai Xi looked at Bai Yu.

“Let’s see what there is first? So we can find them easily later.”

Both of them looked at Bai Miao.

Bai Miao looked up, bewildered at the two of them.

Bai Yu chuckled, squatting down to explain the Transit Pass upgrade to Bai Miao: “But all the things here belong to others. We can’t just take them. Let’s see what we need first, okay?”

“Okay.” Bai Miao nodded, taking out the Upgrade Card to confirm usage.

After confirmation, numerous lines appeared before the sisters, connecting to various items. Many of these things were unfamiliar to them, so they couldn’t tell whether they were broken or not.

They didn’t linger too long in the middle of the market, following the lines out of the market instead.

The upgrade material lines for the Transit Pass were abundant in this Plane, and not confined to items within the market.

“This stone is fine,” Bai Xi pointed to a stone by the roadside.

Bai Yu immediately carried Bai Miao over, allowing her to press the card against it.

    [Add five hours]

“We don’t need to collect all the materials?” Bai Yu asked in surprise, looking up.

“Is that so?” Bai Xi was equally astonished, crouching to examine the card, “So does this mean that as long as we find one of the materials listed, we can directly increase the time on the Transit Pass?”

“Seems like it,” Bai Yu nodded, “Miao Miao, try using the Transit Pass again.”

“Which one?” Bai Miao asked, pulling out the Transit Pass from her bag.

“Of course…” Bai Yu started to say Magic Plane, but paused, “Try the Forest Plane one?”

Bai Miao nodded, took out the Forest Plane’s Transit Pass from her small bag, and pressed it against the Upgrade Card.

[Would you like to increase this Transit Pass time?]

    “Increase.”

    [Increase Successful]

“The color is different now,” Bai Miao’s eyes lit up, raising her hand to show the others the Transit Pass, then picking up the Upgrade Card, “This one has changed too.”

Bai Yu looked at the changing text on the Upgrade Card: “Does this word say ‘zero’?”

“It should,” Bai Xi closely examined the words on the card.

The three of them studied “zero” for a while, then quickly refocused on the Upgrade Card. They initially thought that increasing the Transit Pass time would be difficult, given that they didn’t recognize the writing or the pictures on the card.

Just by looking at the numerous lines extending from the Upgrade Card, they assumed they needed to collect many items.

But the current situation was much better than they had anticipated.

“There’s one over there too,” Bai Xi pointed to another line, “Over there, over there.”

Bai Yu immediately picked up Bai Miao: “Let’s go!”

Since they didn’t need to collect so many things after all, they didn’t feel compelled to pick up items from the market; they could collect enough materials to increase the Transit Pass time out in the wild.

When they arrived two days ago, they had been on a Flying Carpet, only taking out the Upgrade Card at the market entrance, so they mainly saw those lines and connections to this world’s [Transit Vortex] and hadn’t noticed anything elsewhere.

Looking again now, many lines extended out nearby.

    [Add three hours]

    [Add six hours]

“Why is there a piece of meat? And there are lines on the meat too.”

“Maybe someone was in too much of a hurry and accidentally dropped it.” Bai Yu held Bai Miao and brought her over to let her place a card on the meat.

    [Add half an hour]

“Eh, the color of the meat has changed,” Bai Xi observed the meat in front of her carefully, “Now it seems like this meat is edible.”

“Indeed, it doesn’t have that strange color anymore,” Bai Yu said, then suddenly turned her head, “Could it be that the materials needed for the Upgrade Card are the magic of this Plane? Now the magic in this meat has been extracted, so the color isn’t so strange.”

“Do people on this Plane eat this kind of meat to replenish magic?”

“Possibly,” Bai Yu nodded, looking at the meat in front of her, “Xiao Xi, go grab a branch nearby, and we’ll take this meat back to try it out. If it tastes good after the magic is extracted, we can just buy ordinary meat here in the future. Otherwise, we’ll have to keep eating fish.”

“Are we really going to eat this stuff?” Bai Xi couldn’t accept the “sour fish soaked too long in water” taste. “Miao Miao said the stuff here isn’t tasty, and it’s been on the ground, so it might be spoiled.”

Bai Yu looked at her, “Are you silly? You just need to taste a tiny bit, like a fingernail size, not eat it all. See which side is clean, and cut a clean piece later.”

“That works,” Bai Xi broke a branch nearby, stuck it into the meat, and lifted it, “Let’s go find the next thing we can upgrade.”
