    She’s Back

    Chapter 37

The sky was not yet bright. Sha Niu followed behind her mother, simply lifting her feet and moving forward, not quite understanding what they were doing.

The moon hung at the edge of the sky with a piece missing. Sha Niu thought of the flatbread she had bitten into that morning. She wanted to point it out to her mother, but she was afraid that if she pointed at the moon, her ears would be cut off, so she could only make “ah, ah, ah” sounds.

Sha Niu’s Mother quickly turned around, covered her daughter’s mouth, and whispered, “Don’t speak.”

The mother and daughter walked along the main road toward the town.

Sha Niu’s Mother had no other choice.

The Zhang Family had already come to her house today to cause trouble.

Sha Niu’s Mother’s original plan had always been for Ming Wen to take them and run away together.

Now Ming Wen had escaped alone.

In her heart, Sha Niu’s Mother hoped she would come back, but the girl had finally managed to get out…

Sha Niu’s Mother would never forget the incident with Wang Xia. That time, the police had come. Standing in the crowd, she had naturally wondered if the police could take her and Sha Niu away if they took Wang Xia.

But the police had been powerless.

In that moment, Sha Niu’s Mother felt that even the police couldn’t save them.

She didn’t blame Ming Wen. Ming Wen had no chance of becoming a god here, but it would be different outside.

Here, every time she saved an animal, the Village Chief could kill one; she would never be able to accumulate enough merit.

But it was different outside. With Ming Wen’s great abilities, she would surely become a god within six months or a year after leaving.

The Zhang Family was furious because they couldn’t find their Trafficked Bride, and they naturally needed a target for their anger.

Sha Niu and her mother became their punching bags.

“If it wasn’t for them, how could she have escaped?”

They sought help from others in the village. Many households had Outsider Wives, and regarding the act of letting an Outsider Wife go, they naturally put themselves in the Zhang Family’s shoes. No one helped Sha Niu and her mother.

They demanded an explanation from Sha Niu’s Mother. If she didn’t give them one, they would take Sha Niu instead.

It was nothing more than selling Sha Niu and using the money to buy a boy to carry on the family line.

For now, they were only guarding the door, but they would likely do more later.

She took advantage of the guards falling asleep to flee with her daughter in the middle of the night.

If anything happened to her, she would strangle Sha Niu as well. If mother and daughter died together, it would save Sha Niu from staying here to suffer after she was gone.

The mother and daughter headed toward the town. They passed through the pitch-black forest and headed down the path. Soon, Sha Niu felt thirsty and refused to walk any further.

In the past, if Sha Niu insisted on drinking water during such a frantic time, her mother would have surely given her a couple of slaps. But today she didn’t. She only said, “We’re almost at the town. I’ll buy you sugar water to drink when we get there.”

Hearing this, Sha Niu immediately gained energy and began striding downward.

Sha Niu’s Mother felt that her daughter seemed a bit better than a few days ago, as if she could understand human speech now.

The mother and daughter crossed two more mountains and turned into a small ravine. Two households lived here, and there were two dogs at their doors.

Before they even got close, the dogs began to bark.

As the mother and daughter ran toward the other side, the dogs had already chased them out. The people inside realized someone was there; thinking they were thieves, they ran out carrying hoes.

When they saw the mother and daughter, they stopped.

“Sister-in-law, it’s the middle of the night. Where are you going?”

Everyone had heard about the Outsider Wife escaping. The Zhang Family was telling everyone that Sha Niu’s Mother had let her go. Seeing the situation now, they naturally understood.

At that moment, a loud voice came from the slope above: “Stop them! Don’t let them run!”

Several more people suddenly emerged from the houses.

Hearing the voice from above, Sha Niu’s Mother quickly pulled her daughter and ran downward.

The others were experienced. When it came to catching a runaway Outsider Wife, if they helped bring her back, the family would usually give them some cigarettes or wine. Thus, the crowd began to chase them with their dogs.

Hearing the noise behind them, Sha Niu’s Mother kept telling Sha Niu to run faster.

It was miserable. They had already traveled a long way, and their clothes were soaked with sweat. Now as they ran, the cold wind rushed in, making it freezing and painful.

Behind them, torches were drawing closer one by one.

After crossing the ravine, the path went upward. Sha Niu’s Mother truly couldn’t run anymore; her legs were losing all strength.

    “You run!”

However, seeing that her mother wasn’t keeping up, Sha Niu immediately ran back, hoisted her mother onto her back, and continued upward.

Three torches suddenly appeared above. It turned out the families living up there had heard the noise and come out as well.

Caught between the two groups, the mother and daughter were quickly captured. They were pinned to the ground, and someone began to tie them with ropes.

“Just you wait! The Immortal Lady is going back to heaven soon, and she’ll strike you with lightning!” This time, Sha Niu’s Mother fiercely repeated the words her daughter used to say.

In her heart, she could only hope. She hoped that in another six months or a year, Ming Wen would become a god. When that time came, these people, these people who bullied her and her daughter, would all face retribution!

“The idiot’s mother is an idiot too,” everyone laughed.

A loud “Bang!” shattered everyone’s laughter.

“Everyone, drop your weapons and get on the ground!” Another gunshot rang out.

Everyone looked back toward the sound.

A group of people in matching uniforms rushed over, every one of them holding a gun.

What was happening? What was going on? Why were the police here?

They… they didn’t think they had committed any serious crimes, so they naturally wouldn’t risk their lives against the police. They immediately dropped their hoes and other weapons.

Sha Niu’s Mother was also released. She stood up and saw Ming Wen running through the crowd.

Ming Wen’s face was full of panic, a look the young deity had never shown before.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m late,” Yun Song ran to Sha Niu and her mother.

Sha Niu’s Mother stared at her blankly. It hadn’t been six months or a year… she was back?

She was back. Not only was she back, but she had brought many people with her.

    She was the Immortal Lady.

The police rushed up and seized the men. Yun Song quickly helped Sha Niu’s Mother and Sha Niu to their feet.

Sha Niu’s Mother’s tears fell uncontrollably as she gazed blankly at Ming Wen.

    “Are you hurt anywhere?”

“Where is Sha Niu? Does your head hurt?” Sha Niu looked at her with a foolish, dazed expression.

Yun Song felt that Sha Niu’s Mother was acting a bit strange, as she hadn’t said a single word.

    “What’s wrong? Are you injured?”

It felt as though something was blocking Sha Niu’s Mother’s throat. She had fantasized countless times that one day, the Immortal Lady would ascend and save her and Sha Niu.

However, those past fantasies had always felt unrealistic and hollow, and she had never dared to dwell on them too deeply.

    “You came back.”

“Yes, I’m back.” For the first time, Yun Song spoke with absolute confidence. “You can leave this place now. No one can stop you anymore.”

She had come to fulfill the promise she made when she was the Immortal Lady.

Sha Niu’s Mother wiped away her tears.

Yun Song discussed the plan with her. “I still have to go back to the village with the others. My grandmother is helping find a doctor in the city. You take Sha Niu and two police officers to the hospital first. Sha Niu’s head needs a detailed examination.”

Before they had arrived, Yun Song had already discussed this matter with the rescue team.

At this moment, Sha Niu’s Mother viewed Yun Song entirely as a deity. Naturally, she would follow whatever Yun Song said.

In this way, the young deity fulfilled her promise.
