What if Shen Xiuyan got angry and went back on the agreement they had made?
So Dean Qiu quickly changed tactics, smiling as he followed after him. “Student Shen, I’ll go with you. I can also meet your wife, and it’ll be easier to take care of things later on.”
On one hand, he was genuinely curious—what kind of magical power did Shen Xiuyan’s wife possess?
On the other hand, he was worried about Shen Xiuyan’s safety. At least until the new computer model was completed, he had to stick close.
Sure enough, Shen Xiuyan, who had initially been reluctant, nodded after hearing this. “Alright, come with me then.”
Dean Qiu: Got him.
He then turned and exchanged a subtle glance with someone at the door.
That person understood instantly.
They spun around and dashed out ahead of them.
As Shen Xiuyan and Dean Qiu walked out of the teaching building, a number of soldiers silently joined them, surrounding them on all sides.
Shen Xiuyan asked, “What is this?”
Dean Qiu gave a sheepish smile. “Just a precaution, for safety.”
Shen Xiuyan shrugged and said nothing more. It seemed that, in their eyes, he was already a rare specimen.
At least until the new computer was fully developed, his status as a national treasure wouldn’t be shaken.
They soon arrived outside Su Mingyue’s classroom—perfect timing, just as the class ended.
Shen Xiuyan walked in with a warm smile. “Mingyue, come on, let’s go eat.”
Although they lived under the same roof, they hadn’t seen each other in days. Su Mingyue’s eyes lit up the moment she saw him.
“Brother Xiuyan, you’re finally done with work?”
Shen Xiuyan teased, “Yep, finally done. See? The moment I had free time I came to take you to lunch. Don’t I deserve a reward?”
Su Mingyue’s cheeks flushed red. “What nonsense are you saying out in public!”
Shen Xiuyan shrugged. “I didn’t say anything. You’re the one whose mind went there.”
Su Mingyue, both embarrassed and angry: “You—!”
“My bad, my bad.”
Knowing when to stop, Shen Xiuyan smiled and started helping her gather the books on her desk.
Su Mingyue looked at him with satisfaction, then suddenly remembered something and asked curiously, “By the way, did something big happen in your department? The whole building was surrounded by soldiers. I was just worrying something happened to you.”
As the one who caused all of this, Shen Xiuyan scratched his nose awkwardly. “Nothing major, really. Your husband here just accidentally invented something small… didn’t expect it to cause such a fuss…”
“What?!” Su Mingyue’s eyes widened. “It is related to you? There were rumors this morning, but no one believed them. What exactly did you do?”
A timid voice chimed in from the side. “Don’t tell me… you really invented a new kind of computer…”
Shen Xiuyan turned to look. “Oh, Eileen.”
He gave her a friendly smile. “You actually guessed it right.”
Eileen: “…”
The whole room went dead silent. Everyone stared at him in disbelief.
What did he just say?
He actually admitted it himself…
He really did invent a computer…
Eileen took a deep breath. The world suddenly felt surreal. She wanted to look up at the sky and sigh—we’re all freshmen, how are you this good?
Seeing her stunned expression, Shen Xiuyan politely nodded, then took Su Mingyue’s hand and walked out.
Su Mingyue followed mechanically.
It was the first time she truly felt the sensation of her body moving ahead while her soul lagged behind.
Once they left, the classroom erupted.
“Did you hear that? Shen Xiuyan admitted it himself!”
“I thought it was just a rumor—turns out it’s true?!”
“Pfft, who knows, maybe he’s bluffing!”
Someone peeked out the window, then quickly ducked back inside, face pale as a ghost. “Is it possible he’s not bluffing… Look outside—there are so many soldiers…”
The whole class rushed to the window and sure enough, saw Shen Xiuyan surrounded like the center of a galaxy by military personnel.
…
Silence. Dead silence.
Anyone who said it was a rumor better shut up now.
Getting this kind of treatment? It had to be legit.
With that thought, wave after wave of shocked gasps echoed in the room.
“Damn, Mingyue’s husband is insane! What kind of karma did she rack up in her past life to land someone like him?”
“Seriously. Someone was even saying their relationship was falling apart, but look at them! Turns out he was just busy doing research.”
“Ha! Wonder what kind of jealous, bitter heart would spread rumors like that. Can’t stand seeing a happy couple, I guess.”
Someone nudged a classmate. She looked confused, and he gestured behind her.
She turned to look—and there was Zhang Chunfang in the shadows, face twisted in rage, teeth practically grinding into dust.
She snorted. “Whatever. I’m not scared of her.”
“Okay, okay, you’re not scared. Let’s go eat.”
One by one, the students filed out. Soon, only Zhang Chunfang was left in the classroom.
She was fuming inside.
Why? Why did Su Mingyue get everything good?
Why hadn’t her relationship with Shen Xiuyan fallen apart?
Her fists clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms.
But no one cared about Zhang Chunfang’s jealousy, because Su Mingyue was still frozen in place behind Shen Xiuyan.
Why were there so many people at the classroom door…?
And they were all soldiers…
The timid part of her shrank instinctively. She just wanted to pull her husband and escape this chaotic scene.
But before they could even take two steps, a sharp-eyed middle-aged man walked toward them.
He smiled at Shen Xiuyan. “Student Shen, this must be your wife?”
Shen Xiuyan nodded. “Yes, this is my wife, Su Mingyue.”
Dean Qiu, knowing that nothing works better than flattery, seized the opportunity to make a good impression on Su Mingyue.
“A perfect match. Truly a perfect match! You and your wife are the very definition of a talented man and a beautiful woman—a match made in heaven.”
Before Su Mingyue could react, Shen Xiuyan was already grinning from ear to ear, nearly laughing out loud.
Dean Qiu: “…”
So this is the real Shen Xiuyan? That silly, goofy grin makes him look so easy to get along with. Compared to his earlier poker face, this was like night and day.
If he liked hearing this kind of stuff, why didn’t he say so earlier? Dean Qiu could’ve gone on all day until his throat ran dry.
