Transmigrated Bigshots C91
by MarineTLChapter 91: Could There Really Be a Ghost?
Liang Tian’er’s eyes curved slightly as she flashed a gentle smile. “Thank you, Second Young Master, for your righteous assistance. Otherwise, the earlier commotion might have required more effort to resolve!”
“It was nothing,” Li Pingqing replied tactfully, glancing at the people in the courtyard. “I won’t intrude any longer.”
Liang Tian’er nodded.
Bai Tian, quick to catch the hint, hurried to open the door. “Take care, Young Master Li.”
Some curious villagers lingered at the entrance. Seeing the County Magistrate’s second son emerging, they quickly dispersed, though their eyes remained fixed on Li Pingqing.
Inside the carriage, Li Pingqing used his folding fan to lift the small window curtain. “Fulai, what do you think of today’s events?”
Fulai scratched his head. “I’m not too sure myself.”
Li Pingqing retracted his fan, his voice light and carefree as it drifted from the carriage. “Today was quite the show!”
Inside the Bai Family courtyard, Juanjuan cautiously approached Chunlai. “Auntie, are you okay?”
Chunlai’s eyes were still red from crying, resembling a caged White Rabbit. Before she could speak, Juanjuan heard a voice echoing in her parents’ minds.
【Are you okay? If so, have a Liuliu Plum!】
Juanjuan: …
Chunlai shook her head. “I’m fine, really.”
Juanjuan pointed to the red-stained porcelain shards on the ground. “There’s blood.”
“Just a little from my finger, it’s nothing,” Chunlai said dismissively. As a martial artist, such minor injuries were insignificant.
Liang Tian’er teased, “Chunlai, you seem to be adapting here quite well!”
“Sister Jiang, Chunlai used to never cry even when bleeding. How did you manage to change her like this?” Liang Tian’er was genuinely curious.
Jiang Dai chuckled softly. “I have a set of martial arts techniques. Knowing when to show weakness is part of the strategy.”
Chunlai added, “Miss, Sister Jiang’s martial arts are impressive!”
Though the techniques Sister Jiang mentioned were common where they came from, Chunlai couldn’t master them as easily.
Liang Tian’er, familiar with these martial arts, observed Jiang Dai’s clever adaptability and acting skills, which controlled the situation perfectly. Her suspicions grew stronger—this Bai Family was no ordinary folk.
“Juanjuan, come here.”
Liang Tian’er removed the veil from her face, revealing a delicate and youthful face. She bent slightly and beckoned to Juanjuan.
Juanjuan happily ran to Liang Tian’er’s side, politely calling out, “Sister.”
Liang Tian’er took the Food Box from Mo Han and handed it to Juanjuan. “This is for you and your brothers.”
She added, “There’s Osmanthus Cake inside.”
Juanjuan licked her lips, tempted, but didn’t immediately take it. Instead, she looked to her mother, as if asking for permission.
Jiang Dai said, “Thank your sister.”
Juanjuan’s eyes lit up, and she smiled shyly, “Thank you, Sister!”
“Go share it with your brothers.”
Juanjuan nodded, struggling a bit to carry the Food Box as she trotted off towards her brothers.
Bai Yunqi and Bai Yunxing quickly reached out to help, worried the little one might trip and fall.
“Chunlai, Dongqu, keep an eye on the children.”
Liang Tian’er and Jiang Dai exchanged a glance and entered the house together.
“Yunqi, take care of your siblings and listen to your aunts,” Bai Tian instructed before joining them inside.
Inside the house, Jiang Dai poured a glass of cool water for Liang Tian’er. “Our home is simple, I hope you don’t mind.”
Liang Tian’er replied, “Of course not.”
“I saw the White Rabbit in the courtyard earlier. It’s indeed of good quality. Thank you, Sister Jiang.”
Liang Tian’er stood and bowed. Although the Sweet Potato sounded promising, it required careful experimentation before presenting it. If it could serve as food during a famine, it would be a great achievement and couldn’t be taken lightly. However, the White Rabbit was straightforward and, though not as significant as the Sweet Potato, could still serve as a valuable connection.
The Liang Family had reached a certain level of wealth; what they lacked were connections and goodwill.
Jiang Dai waved her hand. “We have Dongqu to thank for that. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have known a White Rabbit could be so valuable in Jingcheng.”
Bai Tian murmured regretfully, “Who would’ve thought we planned to stew it…”
Liang Tian’er: Hmm?
“A rare White Rabbit, and you were going to… stew it?”
Jiang Dai smiled wryly. “We were poor back then!”
Liang Tian’er sighed. “I was narrow-minded, not considering your family’s past situation.”
“By the way, you might not know, but Kang An has already sent people to Niantao Village.”
Jiang Dai frowned slightly. “I wasn’t aware. Besides the time someone came to the courtyard at night, has anyone else come?”
“They did, but they fled before entering the village.”
“Fled?”
Liang Tian’er knew this would pique Jiang Dai’s interest.
“Yes, fled! I sent someone to ask one of them. Sister Jiang, Bai Tian, can you guess what happened?”
“They claimed they encountered ghosts at noon!”
Jiang Dai and Bai Tian exclaimed in unison, “Ghosts?”
Liang Tian’er nodded. “They said a sudden thunderbolt paralyzed them, then a thick fog rose, obscuring everything, and they were beaten by the mist.”
Jiang Dai whispered to Bai Tian, “Do you think science can explain this?”
Bai Tian bent slightly, “We’ve both transmigrated; how can science explain that?”
A chill ran down Jiang Dai’s spine.
Could there really be a ghost?
Though raised in modern times, under the red flag and spring breeze, Jiang Dai was genuinely afraid of ghosts.
Bai Tian glanced sideways at her. “Are you scared? Don’t worry, I’m as comfortable in a haunted house as at home. I’ll protect you!”
Jiang Dai scoffed, “Who said I’m scared? Ridiculous!”
Liang Tian’er, who was pretending not to listen as she examined a small bowl, couldn’t help but chuckle.
She thought to herself, not everyone is like the Liang Family. People need to get out more, or they’ll be easily influenced by their parents, trapped in their small world.
“Today, Li Pingqing’s visit was likely orchestrated by Kang An. First, having the County Magistrate’s second son come, if there really were ghosts, the magistrate would naturally investigate thoroughly.”
“Second, he probably suspects you have some special ingredient. He’s unaware of the Sweet Potato, but seeing my close relationship with you, he’s full of suspicion. If Li Pingqing had obtained anything, Kang An would have acted against you.”
“Third, he’s a petty person. If someone without power or status doesn’t please him, he goes out of his way to cause trouble. In short, he’s narrow-minded! Since Li Pingqing’s visit went smoothly today, I suspect Kang An will soon send someone to create more trouble.”
Liang Tian’er sneered, full of disdain for the scoundrel Kang An.
She didn’t notice the admiration in Jiang Dai and Bai Tian’s eyes as they watched her.
