Raising Kids C145
by MarineTLChapter 145: The Real and Fake Daughters Who Were Switched at Birth – 4
As soon as Yuan Huan heard her crying, she quickly lowered her head to check, but by then, Xie Qianjin had already pulled her hand back.
This little one sure knew how to feel sorry for herself. After getting hurt, she burst into loud wails while blowing hard on her own hand.
“Waaah… hoo hoo…”
Noticing Yuan Huan looking at her, her big teary eyes stared up as she held out her injured hand.
Afraid Yuan Huan didn’t understand what she meant, she pulled it back to blow on it again before offering it once more.
Xie Hui really hadn’t expected that even though this little one was actually a reincarnated adult, she could still do something as silly as touching a durian.
The fruit in this supermarket was all very fresh. The durians had just been stocked that morning, and the spines on the shell were sharp enough to hurt an adult, let alone a not-even-half-year-old little brat like Xie Qianjin.
By contrast, the Yuan Yu in his arms was being very well-behaved.
Thinking this, Xie Hui picked up the dragon fruit she had been eyeing earlier, planning to help her hold it.
Yuyu had been quite interested in the dragon fruit just moments ago, but maybe she’d been scared by what had just happened.
When Xie Hui held the fruit out to her, not only did she not excitedly reach for it, she actually pulled both hands back.
Clutching her little hands to her chest, she looked up at Xie Hui with an innocent expression.
As he brought the dragon fruit closer, Yuan Yu’s lips began to tremble, and her eyes started to well up with tears.
“Ya…”
Xie Hui quickly put the dragon fruit back. The moment he did, even though the tears hadn’t fully dried from her eyes, the little one broke into a wide smile at him.
Xie Qianjin, who had been pricked by the durian shell, buried her head in Yuan Huan’s arms and refused to come out. Yuan Yu, still shaken, didn’t want to touch any more fruit either.
A staff member followed behind them, collecting the fruit the two little ones had touched, and placed the dragon fruit into the basket.
Realizing they were about to leave, the staff member hurried over to Xie Hui and asked instinctively:
“President Xie, would you like to take the durian?”
Xie Hui usually took away anything the kids had touched so as not to affect other customers’ shopping experience.
Xie Qianjin had only brushed the durian before pulling her hand back, and she was still crying, so the staff member hesitated.
Just as the staff asked, Xie Hui noticed Xie Qianjin, who had been hiding her face, peek up and glance over. Trying to suppress a smile, he nodded.
“Yeah, we’ll take it.”
Right after he said that, Xie Qianjin resumed her muffled sobbing in Yuan Huan’s arms.
On the way home, she seemed to have cried herself tired. Though the tears had stopped, she kept letting out soft whimpers.
Her little noises caught Yuan Yu’s attention. She stared curiously at Xie Qianjin, her black-and-white eyes full of wonder, babbling in her baby language.
One was whimpering, the other babbling—two soft baby voices together weren’t noisy at all.
Once home, Xie Hui asked the steward to take the fruit to the kitchen to make a fruit platter the next day.
When the steward saw the large durian, he paused in surprise. He remembered that Mr. Xie didn’t like durian.
“Sir, should we use the durian too?”
“No, leave that one.”
Even though Xie Qianjin had fallen asleep before they got home, the moment she heard the word “durian,” she let out a little whimper in her sleep, making Xie Hui want to laugh.
“I remember your son likes durian. You can take it home.”
Xie Hui had thought that letting the two little ones explore fruit at the supermarket would keep them entertained for a couple of days.
But when he got home from work and tried to cuddle Xie Qianjin, the moment he picked her up, he saw her tiny hand tugging at his cuff button.
“Hm? Want me to buy you a durian next time I get off work?”
As soon as he said that, Xie Qianjin, who had just been fiddling with his cuff, clenched her tiny fists.
She raised her hand as if to scratch his face, baring her toothless gums in a fierce little expression.
Xie Hui quickly turned his head to dodge and carried her out to the garden.
The garden was professionally maintained by a hired landscaper, with different flowers blooming in every season. No matter where you looked, it was a beautiful view.
Normally, the little one didn’t like being held by Xie Hui—unless he was taking her out to look at the scenery.
One wall of the courtyard was covered in climbing roses. The bright red blooms and dark green leaves swayed gently in the breeze. Seeing this, Xie Qianjin kicked and waved her arms in excitement.
“Ya! Yi ya!”
Just then, the nanny brought Yuyu out to play too.
After living together for so long, the two little ones had developed similar personalities and habits. Like now—Yuyu also reached out to touch the flowers.
At three months old, babies weren’t as fragile as before. Seeing how excited Jinjin was in his arms, Xie Hui brought her closer to the fullest rose.
She seemed worried she might lose control, so as she leaned in happily, she pulled her little hands back.
Then she leaned forward and sniffed the flower.
Yuyu, copying her sister, wriggled in the nanny’s arms, trying to get a whiff too.
The two sisters moved in sync—leaning in for a deep sniff, then quickly pulling their heads back and sneezing.
“Achoo!”
“Achoo!”
Once again, in perfect unison, they both reached up to rub their noses, then buried their faces in the arms of whoever was holding them.
After playing for a while, Xie Hui carried her back inside.
At this stage, babies could finally be held upright, lifting their heads and looking around. Once they could sit and crawl, they’d be even more energetic.
Xie Qianjin had a more domineering personality, while Yuan Yu was gentle and liked sticking close to her sister.
Whenever she couldn’t see Xie Qianjin, she’d babble insistently until someone carried her over to find her.
It was only then that Xie Hui truly realized—Xie Qianjin being reborn was actually a wonderful thing. She might have a temper, and she might harbor resentment toward the sister who was sent abroad in their past life.
But faced with a babbling, innocent little brat who had grown up with her since infancy, that resentment and anger would surely soften over time.
Babies at this age grew fast—changing day by day.
Both girls had been born in early summer, and as they grew, the weather got colder. Thankfully, the villa had central heating.
When they reached the age to start sitting up, thick carpets were laid down in the warm room.
Yuan Huan helped Jinjin sit steadily. On the other side, one of the nannies looked after Yuyu.
Both little ones wore hats, and since the room was warm, they only had on sweaters.
Jinjin picked up sitting very quickly. Sitting there, she glanced at Yuan Yu, who was still struggling to stay upright, and let out a soft hum, happily waving her arms.
Just then, Xie Hui opened the door and saw the scene, shaking his head with a helpless smile. This little brat was sitting steadier than a real baby—why did she look so smug about it?
Yuan Yu was a bit lazy. Every time she lay down, even if the nanny helped her sit up again, she’d flop back down soon after—then flash a toothless grin at the nanny.
Xie Hui walked over and helped her sit up. This time, Yuan Yu didn’t lie back down. Instead, she leaned sideways straight into Xie Hui’s arms. So young, and already learning how to play the sympathy card.
It was then that Xie Hui suddenly remembered—tomorrow would be the girls’ six-month milestone.
During dinner, he asked the steward to find two photographers to take half-year photos of the girls.
They had only taken a few casual shots when they turned one month old. Now that they were sturdier, they could really go all out with the photo shoot.
“Sir, should we go to a studio or have the photographers come here?”
“Have them come here.”
First, Xie Hui didn’t want to take the little ones out, especially now that the weather had turned chilly. Catching a cold for a few pictures wasn’t worth it.
Second, he felt most photo studios couldn’t compare to the setup at home.
The backyard was currently blooming with camellias, and a few roses were still hanging on. It would make a great outdoor set.
Ever since she learned to sit, Xie Qianjin couldn’t stay still. If she could sit, she absolutely refused to lie down. Yuan Yu was the complete opposite.
Watching Jinjin wave a colorful building block in her hand, Xie Hui found her both lively and a little too mischievous.
At six months, babies could start eating solid food. Around their usual nighttime feeding time, the nanny brought over two servings of baby cereal.
After six months, Xie Hui had long gotten used to giving more attention to Yuan Yu—after all, he had taken her mother away.
He scooped a spoonful of rice cereal and brought it to Yuan Yu’s mouth.
Yuan Yu furrowed her little brows and didn’t open her mouth. She stared at the spoon for a long time, as if wondering why it looked different from what she usually ate with.
After a while, she finally opened her mouth cautiously and took a tiny taste.
Meanwhile, Xie Qianjin didn’t need any coaxing at all. When Yuan Huan fed her, she opened her mouth wide and let out a soft, babyish “Ah!”
Xie Hui looked at her and couldn’t help but suspect that if she were capable of feeding herself right now, she’d probably be grabbing the spoon and digging in by herself.
After the baby food was done, the nanny took the two little ones to the playroom. Xie Hui called Yuan Huan over to the balcony and told her to prepare more clothes for both kids for tomorrow.
“Huh? Isn’t it just Jinjin who’s getting her six-month photos taken?”
Yuan Huan was a little confused when Xie Hui asked her to prepare clothes for both children, and she blurted out the question instinctively.
“Let’s have Yuyu and Jinjin take the photos together. After all, they’ve been growing up side by side.”
“Sir, isn’t that… isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”
Yuan Huan was very clear about her position—she was just a nanny taking care of the young miss. It was only thanks to the gentleman’s kindness that she even had the life she did now.
Otherwise, with a daughter that young, she might not even be able to beg enough to feed her.
So she never dared to think about things that didn’t belong to her. She knew very well that her daughter and the gentleman’s daughter were born into completely different worlds.
“There’s nothing inappropriate about it. Just get more clothes ready for both of them.”
“Oh, and one more thing—I had my assistant buy some little hair ties. Tomorrow, when they take the photos, put their hair into a few little braids.”
As he spoke, Xie Hui handed her the box his assistant had bought.
“Alright, yes sir,” Yuan Huan replied.
