Professional Assassin C18
by MarineTLChapter 18: Completing job in the Substitute World (5)
After swallowing the 100-point hangover pill, Shen Junyu sobered up quickly. By the time he regained consciousness, Lin Yuetian had already opened the door to the basement, gone down for a while to inspect it, and then returned to the living room. Standing in front of Shen Junyu, who was paralyzed and lying on the sofa like a rigid corpse, Lin Yuetian coldly said, “Lin Yuetian, do you know what kind of end awaits you?”
“I don’t know. I’m ignorant of the law,” Lin Yuetian replied.
While speaking, he struggled to lift the immobile Shen Junyu and began dragging him toward the basement. He barely managed to get him to the entrance before his arms gave out, unable to take another step.
“I’m so weak,” Lin Yuetian lamented, feeling the weakness in his arms, somewhat melancholic.
“If you were strong, it would be a disaster,” the system replied mercilessly, showing no sympathy, “If you were strong, your antics would be my doom.”
“It’s okay,” Lin Yuetian regained his optimism, comforting himself, “Being weak has its own advantages.”
The system fell silent.
Leaning against the entrance to the basement, Lin Yuetian caught his breath, restoring a bit of energy. Without another word, he let go of Shen Junyu, who fell to the ground, and then decisively gave him a kick, sending him tumbling down the stairs.
The sound of rolling, a heavy thud, and a man’s pained groan followed.
“Rolling takes less effort than dragging,” Lin Yuetian remarked.
As he slowly descended the stairs, pausing every few steps to catch his breath, Lin Yuetian placed a hand on his chest, trying to calm himself. This body was truly too weak, utterly inadequate. It was during this gesture that the system finally noticed Lin Yuetian had been wearing gloves all day.
To the system, this action screamed: “Haha, no fingerprints! Mission secure!”
The system started wondering if it should preemptively begin chanting sutras. Meanwhile, Lin Yuetian, after taking breaks every three steps, finally reached the bottom of the basement, standing before Shen Junyu.
At this moment, Shen Junyu was in a miserable state. His clothes were disheveled, his forehead was bleeding from the fall, and he looked utterly pathetic.
Glaring at Lin Yuetian with fury, Shen Junyu shouted, “Lin Yuetian! What are you trying to do?!”
“I’m providing you with a unique educational experience to comprehensively enhance your empathy,” Lin Yuetian responded. “It’s your habit to play with lovers and dislike being interrupted. That’s understandable. Without your phone call, Li Yi won’t come, and others don’t even know this address. To be honest, I admire the effort you put into maintaining this secrecy, so I thank you—this lesson can proceed slowly.”
The system couldn’t help but imagine someone adding, “The night is still young.”
Lin Yuetian clapped his hands, rubbed them together, and promptly stripped off Shen Junyu’s suit, throwing it into the corner of the basement. Ignoring Shen Junyu’s furious curses, Lin Yuetian simply ignored him, focusing instead on his own actions with a calm demeanor.
The way Lin Yuetian looked at Shen Junyu was akin to sizing up a piece of meat—a slab of pork ready to be butchered.
“Sigh… A big deal, a big deal…” Lin Yuetian muttered, completely uninterested in Shen Junyu’s physical state or his own upcoming actions. As he had said before, he simply wanted a financially free and peaceful life. He wasn’t some kind of pervert. However, Lin Yuetian prided himself on his professionalism, doing his best to convince himself, “It’s not about enjoying depravity. As long as my mindset remains healthy and positive, I’m not a deviant.”
The system sneered, “Haha.”
“…What are you mumbling about…?” Shen Junyu, now a bit nervous, asked.
The basement floor was cold. Shen Junyu had never noticed it before when he used this place to “discipline” the original owner. But now, the icy coldness seemed to seep into his heart, making his voice tremble slightly. “What… what are you planning to do?”
Lin Yuetian, back in business mode, paid him no mind. He gently picked up a riding crop from a nearby shelf—a tool Shen Junyu had once used.
The system let out a miserable cry.
“No—!!!”
From Lin Yuetian’s perspective, the system’s reaction was far more dramatic than Shen Junyu’s.
“Too bizarre…” Two hours later, the system was utterly drained, as though it had experienced immense trauma.
Lin Yuetian had stated that to enhance Shen Junyu’s empathy, he needed to make him feel the pain of violence disguised as love. Given the pitiful stamina of the body he inhabited, Lin Yuetian had alternated between brutally kicking and punching Shen Junyu, and tenderly comforting him with words of affirmation. He would praise Shen Junyu’s business acumen, remark on his handsome appearance, and even say things like, “Junyu, I love you.” Whenever Shen Junyu calmed down a bit, Lin Yuetian would regain some energy and continue beating him.
When he was entirely exhausted, Lin Yuetian would sit down to rest.
The system had witnessed Lin Yuetian sweetly murmuring, “I like you so much, how about a kiss?” while tilting a candle toward Shen Junyu’s knee. Unable to bear it any longer, the system mentally chanted sutras, desperately trying to block out the scene.
Lin Yuetian eventually stopped, deciding that two hours were enough—primarily because he was completely drained. Continuing would risk his own health, which wasn’t worth it.
Exhausted, Lin Yuetian left the battered and bruised Shen Junyu in the freezing basement without even a piece of clothing. He locked the door, turning the space into a dark room.
Lin Yuetian then took a hot shower, changed into fresh clothes, and went straight to sleep.
That night, he slept soundly, without dreams. The next morning, he cooked himself breakfast, to the system’s surprise. Perhaps out of consideration for the system’s mental state, Lin Yuetian spent half the morning chatting about cooking techniques with it, using his cheerful and nurturing attitude to try to “heal” his colleague.
Whether it worked was hard to say. However, the system did manage to temporarily forget the miserable Shen Junyu locked in the basement.
Lin Yuetian, of course, did not bring it up himself.
Shen Junyu remained locked up until around noon, when the system suddenly received a notification. Snapping out of its daze, it quickly announced, “Mission Three: Make Shen Junyu understand the original owner’s feelings—complete.”
“Looks like you’ve finally understood,” Lin Yuetian said, “I truly am a professional, someone who makes others feel like a spring breeze.”
The system retorted, “No, I was so traumatized that I decided to suppress my memories, okay?”
“Really? Are you feeling better now?” Lin Yuetian asked, sounding genuinely concerned.
The system, clearly exasperated by Lin Yuetian’s mock sincerity, replied gloomily, “Please, stop asking me. I’ve reached a state of emotional indifference.”
With the mission complete, Lin Yuetian returned to the basement.
When he had left the previous day, he had tied Shen Junyu up. As a result, Shen Junyu had been lying in the same position all night, the blood on the ground already dried.
Lin Yuetian’s gaze was now completely detached, as if looking at a product order. His expression clearly conveyed, “You’re of no further use to me.”
Shen Junyu’s breathing quickened. He seemed to want to say something, but his voice was hoarse.
Lin Yuetian walked to the corner, picked up a tie, and tied it to both ends of the riding crop, creating a makeshift noose.
Gently, as if placing a pearl necklace on a bride, he slipped the noose around Shen Junyu’s neck.
“Normally, I wouldn’t resort to such cruel methods,” Lin Yuetian said regretfully. “But this body is just too weak, so I have no choice. Sorry.”
Shen Junyu finally understood what Lin Yuetian was planning. He lowered his head, unable to speak, staring blankly at the tie around his neck.
He recognized the tie. It was a birthday gift from the original owner, who had smiled weakly but beautifully that day.
“…Do you hate me?” Shen Junyu suddenly croaked, his voice hoarse but urgent. “Do you… hate me?”
Lin Yuetian glanced at him, puzzled. “Are you even worth hating?”
Wasting no more time, he gripped the riding crop and began twisting it.
The tie tightened.
“Is this the principle of leverage?” Lin Yuetian asked the system. “This seems easier than manual strangulation.”
“Don’t talk to me while committing murder!!” the system screamed in despair. “Seriously, do you even have any common sense?!”
