    Chapter 44: We’re Super Awesome

After hearing the whole story, Lu Qingqiang couldn’t help letting out a sigh.

    Was Xu Feng pitiful?

A perfectly good company, gone just like that.

A happy family, scattered in an instant.

The child wasn’t his, his wife ran off with someone else, his parents were either dead or seriously injured. How could he not be pitiful?

But at the same time, he was also despicable.

His tragedy wasn’t caused by others.

Yet with the way he lashed out, he directly or indirectly affected several innocent families.

What if the people he attacked had died on the spot?

How would their families go on living?

It’s true what they say: pitiful people often have something detestable about them.

As for what would happen next, Lu Qingqiang couldn’t do much.

All she could do was sigh briefly and wait for follow-up news.

The only thing she was thankful for was that no one from the orphanage had been hurt.

    And everyone had performed admirably.

Yan Fang’s moves when she took down the attacker were clean and sharp—absolutely cool.

Doctor Feng, despite her age, had rushed in to help without hesitation.

Even though Yuan Yuan didn’t jump into the fray directly, she stayed at the back to comfort the children, which was just as important.

Zhang Qiang hadn’t been there at the start, but once he arrived, he jumped into the rescue efforts right away.

Everyone from the orphanage had done great.

As soon as Lu Qingqiang returned to the orphanage with Madam Lu and the others, they were surrounded by the adults and children.

Everyone started chattering at once, worried about her safety.

Once they confirmed she was truly unharmed, they all finally let out a collective sigh of relief.

“Goodness gracious, our dear Director! You’re just a young girl, how could you dare charge at a lunatic killer like that?”

“What if something had happened to you? Mr. and Mrs. Lu would’ve been worried sick!”

Aunt Liu clutched Lu Qingqiang’s hand, patting it gently with lingering fear.

“Aunt Liu, I dared to charge in because I knew I had the ability to handle it,” Lu Qingqiang said. “Otherwise, I would’ve run away long ago.”

“Besides, in the end, wasn’t it Master Yan who stepped in and took the guy down?”

    “I didn’t really do anything.”

“Qingqing, you mustn’t be so reckless next time,” Madam Lu said, eyes misting again.

“Alright, alright, I’ll listen to my mom. Next time something like this happens, I’ll call the police first, then get Master Yan and Master Zhang to help,” Lu Qingqiang quickly promised.

“Huh? But Teacher Yuan said before that we should be helpful when others are in trouble,” a child asked, looking confused. “So if something happens in the future, should we help or not?”

“Your teacher did say that, but the premise is that you must have the ability to protect yourself and to help others,” Yuan Yuan explained.

“For example, today, if someone who clearly doesn’t know how to fight had rushed in anyway, the consequences could’ve been terrible.”

“Not only would you fail to help, you might even get hurt yourself.”

“But if you have the skills of Master Yan or Master Zhang, then of course you can bravely step in and take down the bad guys.”

“Of course, in situations like this, if you hide in a safe place and call the police, shout for others to run, or help treat the injured, that’s also helping.”

    “Ohhh, I see!”

“Then I’m going to train hard with Master Yan and Master Zhang. I want to be strong like them too!”

“You don’t even like spinach. How are you going to be strong like them?”

“What does eating spinach have to do with getting strong?”

“You dummy, eating spinach makes you strong.”

“Once you’re strong, you can punch the bad guys and make them run away!”

“Sounds legit. Alright then, I’ll start liking spinach.”

“Dummy, that’s just something made up in cartoons.”

    “…”

“By the way, Director, how are those injured people doing now?” Doctor Feng asked, concerned.

She had seen their wounds during the rescue—some were very deep, and others had lost a lot of blood.

Whether anyone had died was still uncertain.

“We don’t know yet. This was a big incident, it’ll probably be on the news and trending locally.”

“Keep an eye on the news updates later. We should find out soon.”

Just as Lu Qingqiang finished speaking, Lu Jianshen, who had been fiddling with his phone nearby, spoke up.

“All five of them are fine. At least, none of them died.”

“Really? That’s great.” Doctor Feng let out a long sigh of relief.

The others also quietly breathed easier.

As long as no one died.

“Good, then let’s pack up and head into the mountains!” Lu Qingqiang waved her hand.

“Now? Lu Qingqiang, aren’t you going to rest a bit?” Lu Jianshen looked at her.

“I’m already rested. Are you tired, Second Brother?”

“Fine, let’s go. I just don’t know if these little brats can handle it.”

“Madam Lu, we’re going into the mountains!!”

    “Wow, we’re finally going!”

“Big Brother, we’re not little brats!”

“Yeah, we’re super awesome! We’ll definitely make it to the top!”

Lu Jianshen looked at the group of Little Radish Heads puffing out their cheeks and glaring at him indignantly, and couldn’t help but say, “Alright, alright. How about this: once we get into the mountains, let’s have a race to the top.”

“The first three to reach the summit will get a prize from me!”

“But, you’re not allowed to leave the group or act on your own!”

“And the last one to reach the top… we’ll draw a little turtle on their face as punishment. How about that?”

“What’s the prize? Is it something tasty?”

“The prize is a secret for now, but I promise it’ll be something good,” Lu Jianshen said mysteriously.

    “Yay, I’m in!”

    “Me too!”

    “I’m going to be first!”

    “No way, I’ll be first!”

“You don’t have legs as long as mine, you can’t beat me.”

“You’re so skinny, you’ll run out of energy fast.”

“No fighting, and no personal attacks! This is a competition, not a shouting match. Let’s see who actually walks the walk!” Lu Jianshen said firmly.

“Big Brother, we’re not fighting. We’re being good.”

    “Yeah, we never fight.”

“I don’t believe you, unless you shake hands and show me,” said Lu Jianshen.

“…” Lu Shenlin and Madam Lu exchanged glances.

The second son they used to know was always lazy and careless.

Who would’ve thought he had such a lively and warm side?

If they’d known, they would’ve had him study early childhood education instead.

Why bother spending so much effort on business management? It turned out to be completely useless.

He didn’t even like going to the company.

Once everyone got into the vehicles, they set off toward the mountain behind them.

Lu Qingqiang was still driving her little truck alone in the lead.

On the way, a sudden voice rang out in her mind.

“Ding! Host has been detected as helpful and morally upright. As a reward, the system grants one lottery draw: +1 Beauty, +1 Posture, one poultry feed formula, one cultivation guide for log-grown silver ear mushrooms, and one for log-grown lingzhi mushrooms.”

So that’s how it ends? The madman’s ex-wife simply walks away without facing any consequences for her actions? Yes, the man has his faults—he’s far from innocent—but that doesn’t make the woman blameless either. She contributed to the situation, yet she avoids accountability? Tsk. The double standard is frustrating. Justice shouldn’t be applied selectively, and one person’s wrongdoing doesn’t excuse another’s. If anything, both parties should be held responsible for their actions—not just one while the other walks away unscathed.
