by MarineTLChapter 124: You Throw, I Catch
The rules for You Throw, I Catch were very simple.
Participants were divided into pairs and stood at designated positions.
One person would throw small, fist-sized prop balls from one end.
The other person would hold a basket at the designated spot to catch them.
The match lasted for two minutes.
Once the two minutes were up, the pair with the highest number of balls in their basket would be the final winner.
If there was a tie in the number of balls caught, a tie-breaker round would be initiated.
After the rules for this round were read aloud, the competition officially began.
The teams participating in the first round were: Gu Cheng and Wang Zhiyu, Xu Wei and Wu Feng, and Xu Kai and Pang Jiajia.
Once the three groups were in their designated positions, the whistle blew.
The members of the three groups immediately sprang into action.
In Gu Cheng and Wang Zhiyu’s group, Gu Cheng held the basket to catch while Wang Zhiyu threw the balls.
In Xu Wei and Wu Feng’s group, Xu Wei held the basket and Wu Feng threw.
In Xu Kai and Pang Jiajia’s group, Xu Kai held the basket while Pang Jiajia threw.
The throwing area and the catching area were separated by three meters.
When a ball was thrown, the person holding the basket had to make quick judgments and reactions.
They could choose to stay put and wait for the ball to land in the center.
Alternatively, if they saw the ball’s trajectory deviating, they could quickly move with the basket to catch it.
As long as they did not cross the designated line, the person holding the basket could move freely within that zone.
There was only one goal: catch the ball!
The competition was in full swing when a sudden “Thud!” rang out.
It turned out that while Xu Kai was rushing with the basket to catch a ball thrown by Pang Jiajia, his foot slipped. He lost his balance and tumbled toward the ground.
As luck would have it, the ball happened to fly over at that exact moment.
It struck Xu Kai squarely on the shoulder.
By just a tiny fraction, the ball would have hit his head instead of his shoulder.
“Hiss! Ah!” Struck by the ball, Xu Kai fell completely to the ground with a heavy thud.
His teammate, Pang Jiajia, panicked.
She immediately dropped the ball in her hand and ran over to help him up.
The other participants, seeing the accident occur on the field, stopped their matches as well.
One by one, they gathered around.
“Xu Kai, how are you? Are you okay?”
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
Pang Jiajia apologized repeatedly as she reached out to pull him up.
“It’s not your fault. I didn’t have my footing right and got hit by accident.”
“I’m fine.” Xu Kai gave his partner, Pang Jiajia, a reassuring smile.
“Are you really okay? Do you want Grandma Feng to take a look?” Pang Jiajia asked again.
“I’m really… hiss! Actually, maybe I should let Grandma Feng check it out.”
Xu Kai was about to say he was fine, but when Wu Feng, who was standing nearby, gave his shoulder a light press, it suddenly hurt like crazy.
He changed his tune instantly.
It had to be said, Pang Jiajia’s strength was no joke.
And that was just a casual throw.
She hadn’t even been trying to throw it hard.
If she had really put her back into it, she might have knocked him silly.
Seeing this, Doctor Feng led Xu Kai over to the waiting area.
She pulled a curtain shut and had him remove his shirt to reveal the spot where the ball had hit his shoulder. She began her examination.
Upon seeing it, even Doctor Feng couldn’t help but be a bit stunned.
A faint circle of purple bruising had already begun to form on Xu Kai’s shoulder.
Fortunately, it was only a superficial injury and nothing serious.
Doctor Feng found an ice pack, wrapped it in a very thin towel, and applied a cold compress to Xu Kai’s injury.
“Xiao Kai, it’s not a big problem, don’t worry.”
“Use a cold compress for the first twenty-four hours, and after twenty-four hours, you can use a hot towel for a warm compress.”
“You don’t even need medicine. It’ll be better in a few days after some rest.”
“Okay, thank you, Grandma Feng. I’ll remember that.” Xu Kai nodded obediently.
Because Xu Kai was slightly injured, the group discussed it and decided that Pang Jiajia would hold the basket for the rest of the match.
Xu Kai would be the one throwing the balls.
His injury was on the left side of his shoulder, and the balls weren’t heavy. Throwing with his right hand wouldn’t be a problem at all.
The competition resumed.
The timer started from the moment it had been paused.
Before they began, Lu Qingqiang specifically emphasized the issue of safety once more.
Soon, the round for this group ended.
The pair that caught the most balls was…
