Raising Kids C146
by MarineTLChapter 146: The Real and Fake Daughters Who Were Switched at Birth – 5
Although Xie Hui had only mentioned it to the steward the night before, the steward still managed to find a suitable photographer. Three people came—two women and one man.
They arrived by car, bringing along quite a bit of equipment.
After confirming that the plan was to take half-year photos of the two babies, they got right to work.
Inside the room, Yuan Huan was busy changing the babies’ clothes.
At first, Yuan Huan used to buy clothes for her own daughter—simple and comfortable, cheap but practical. She often felt guilty for not being able to give her daughter a better life.
But around the time Xie Qianjin was about a month and a half old, the steward started buying clothes for both girls whenever he bought something for Qianjin.
Since the clothes were already bought, Yuan Huan couldn’t refuse and didn’t know how to return them. Grateful in her heart, she simply poured even more care into looking after the young miss.
Later on, Yuan Huan noticed that Jinjin didn’t really like wearing the exact same clothes as someone else. So when dressing her own daughter, she made sure to alternate outfits, ensuring the two little ones never wore matching clothes on the same day.
Today was no different. Xie Qianjin was dressed in a light pink onesie with little fox ears on the hood and a fluffy fox tail on the back.
The fabric was nice, and the cartoon-style onesie was absolutely adorable. Dressed like that, the little one looked like a baby fox with a human face.
Yuan Yu’s outfit was much simpler—just a plain sweater with minimal decoration, handpicked by Yuan Huan herself.
Usually quite the bossy little thing, Xie Qianjin was unusually vocal today. She waved her arms and babbled, motioning for the nanny to carry her over to the pile of clothes. There, she grabbed onto the tail of a dinosaur onesie, her voice growing louder.
“Yah! Ooh-wah! Ee-yah!”
Her babbling caught Yuan Huan’s attention. She glanced at the outfit Jinjin was clutching and took her from the nanny, smiling as she asked:
“Jinjin, do you want to wear this one? But the little fox is cuter than the little dinosaur, you know.”
Xie Qianjin pointed with the hand still gripping the dinosaur tail—pointing straight at Yuan Yu, who was sitting there gnawing on her fingers. Then she looked up at Yuan Huan.
When she saw that Yuan Huan didn’t get her meaning, she used her other hand too, vigorously pointing at Yuan Yu.
“Awoo! Yah-woo!”
“Jinjin wants her little sister to wear the same one as you?”
At that, Xie Qianjin finally nodded with satisfaction, her whole head bobbing.
“Yah!”
Yuan Huan had always thought babies this young couldn’t really understand what people said.
But seeing her so serious, she had another nanny help change her own daughter into the dinosaur onesie.
The first photo shoot location was the room where they usually played with toys.
Toys were piled everywhere. The little fox and little dinosaur sat together playing with building blocks. With soft pink curtains and sunlight streaming in, the whole scene felt extra warm and cozy.
Later, the photographer even helped stack the blocks a bit higher.
Yuan Yu, mimicking what she saw, placed a block on top. But her tiny hands weren’t steady, and she accidentally knocked the whole thing over.
Sitting next to her, Xie Qianjin watched the whole thing, her little brows furrowing in disdain.
The photographer froze the frame right at that moment—perfectly satisfied.
After the toy room, they moved on to the living room where the girls often played. A thick carpet covered the floor, keeping them from catching cold.
The onesies were good quality, so Xie Hui simply carried the girls to the living room carpet—one in each hand.
Neither of the little ones seemed uncomfortable. They didn’t cry, and even seemed to enjoy the novelty of it, flailing their arms and legs in the air like they were swimming.
Watching this, Xie Hui suddenly thought—maybe he could turn the little fountain in the backyard into a pool. Once they were older, they could learn to swim.
The photographer didn’t say anything, just quietly captured the moment.
Xie Hui was dressed casually in home clothes, holding a flailing little fox in one hand and a flailing little dinosaur in the other.
After placing them on the carpet, Xie Qianjin found it fun and scooted closer to her dad’s palm.
Yuan Yu seemed to enjoy it too, but didn’t dare get too close. She just sat there sucking her fingers, occasionally casting curious glances at the unfamiliar photographer.
“Nope, photos first. No messing around.”
Rejected, Xie Qianjin let out a little whimper, clearly sulking, and refused to look at Xie Hui again.
There wasn’t much else worth photographing in the living room. Aside from that one shot, the photographer only took a photo of Yuan Yu trying to hold Xie Qianjin’s hand.
Tiny, slightly bald Xie Qianjin had a face full of cold elegance. When Yuan Yu reached out to her, she didn’t refuse, but didn’t respond either—just silently extended the hand that had been tucked into her sleeve.
But unexpectedly, Yuan Yu wasn’t reaching for her hand at all. One hand grabbed the fox tail on the back of her onesie, and the other joined in.
Seeing what her daughter was doing, Yuan Huan rushed over to pull her away.
That fluffy fox tail was just too cute. Yuan Yu didn’t want to let go and even managed to pull out a bit of pink fur.
Even though it was just part of the onesie, Xie Qianjin still felt like it must’ve hurt. She frowned and tried to crawl away in disgust.
But once she shifted from sitting to lying on her stomach, she found she couldn’t move at all. Worse, her fluffy tail was now fully exposed to Yuan Yu again.
Yuan Yu, just released by her mom, widened her eyes in surprise at the sight—then broke into a giggle and launched herself forward.
She landed right on top of the fox tail, effectively pinning Xie Qianjin beneath her.
The sight of the two little ones stacked like that sparked a new idea in the photographer’s mind.
Xie Qianjin, now a turtle with a shell on her back, grew increasingly frustrated—no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get up.
Yuan Yu, hugging the tail, grinned with infectious joy.
Eventually, Xie Hui tugged on Yuan Yu’s dinosaur tail, making her instinctively turn her head.
Seizing the moment, Yuan Huan scooped up Xie Qianjin.
Now in Yuan Huan’s arms, Xie Qianjin pouted dramatically.
They didn’t change outfits for the outdoor shoot—just kept the thick onesies on. Only one set had been prepared for outdoor photos.
Xie Hui noticed that Jinjin seemed to still be holding a grudge over Yuyu pulling her tail. Her tiny fists were clenched, full of righteous fury.
When they were put together for a photo again, she finally got her revenge—swinging a little fist squarely into Yuyu’s chest.
Her fist was small, but her attitude was fierce.
Once the shoot was done, the photographers didn’t linger and left before lunchtime.
The housekeeper needed to clean the rooms the photographers had used, so Xie Hui decided to take Yuan Huan and the two girls to his company for a visit.
Like many dads, Xie Hui loved teasing his own kid. He was no exception.
After getting out of the car, holding his daughter in his arms, he pointed at the company sign and said seriously:
“See that? That’s our company.”
Xie Qianjin didn’t find it impressive at all. She pouted and stared at Yuan Huan, who was holding Yuyu, her face practically shouting “Not happy.”
Xie Hui understood. According to the details revealed by the Entruster, the man back then had originally wanted to take it out on Xie Qianjin. Yuan Huan had protected her, and that’s what led to the tragedy.
Still, he couldn’t let his daughter monopolize someone else’s mom. She even got mad when Yuan Huan held Yuyu.
Choosing to ignore her sulking face, he began introducing her to the company.
Upstairs in the office, the assistant had already prepared a tatami mat—perfect for the girls to play on.
Xie Qianjin sat there, arms crossed again, letting out a loud “hmph” whenever Yuan Huan looked her way.
Xie Hui, out of her line of sight, gave Yuan Huan a subtle shake of the head.
Maybe it was the bond from raising her himself, but Yuan Huan spoiled Jinjin rotten. If Jinjin asked for the stars, she’d try to give her the moon.
The moment she pouted, Yuan Huan wanted to comfort her. But seeing Xie Hui stop her, she forced herself to pretend not to notice.
Knowing how possessive Jinjin was, she didn’t even go to hug her own daughter. She just quietly organized the toys for both of them.
Jinjin sat there sulking for quite a while. Neither Dad nor Yuan Huan came to coax her.
Instead, it was Yuyu who handed her a toy, smiling like a silly little goof.
Jinjin took it with a grumpy hand. After playing for a bit, she glanced over, expecting Yuyu to be at least a little upset.
But when she looked, Yuyu seemed to sense it, put down her toy, and gave her another big grin.
From that moment on, Xie Hui could clearly tell—Jinjin wasn’t as resistant to Yuyu as before.
Whenever she bought two of something, even if she didn’t say a word, she would always give one to her little sister.
The two little ones shared the same birthday, but Yuyu had a full head of hair, while Xie Qianjin had only a few sparse tufts.
Real babies didn’t care whether their hair was tied up or left loose, but the fake one—whose few strands of hair could be counted—was obsessed with having Yuan Huan tie her little pigtails.
By the time they were six months old and ready to start eating solid food, they were also beginning to teethe.
Neither of them liked teething biscuits, so the experienced nanny prepared some air-dried meat jerky instead.
With just the tiniest white teeth poking through, the two little ones couldn’t actually chew the jerky, only taste it a bit. It was made large enough that there was no risk of them swallowing it by accident.
Every day when Xie Hui got home, he’d find them clutching a piece of beef jerky, diligently gnawing away.
Eventually, he developed a routine: after work, he’d wash his hands, pry open their little mouths, and check how much their teeth had grown.
“Come on, say ah—”
Xie Hui held Jinjin in his arms, trying to check her teeth. He caught a glint of mischief in her eyes and instinctively started to pull his hand back.
Sure enough, the next second, her baby voice rang out:
“Awoo—”
