Chapter 105: The Depressed Daughter 5

“The situation isn’t too bad. Personally, I recommend hospitalization.”

After reviewing the test results, the doctor began discussing with the patient’s family.

“Okay, doctor. I’ll handle the paperwork right away. Thank you.”

Xie Hui asked Xie Zhaodi to stay with Liu Hui while he took care of the hospitalization procedures. After being admitted, there were a few more tests to determine if surgery was suitable.

During this time, Xie Zhaodi stayed with her. Perhaps because the hospital gown was too loose, it made Liu Hui look frail and unable to fill it out.

At this moment, Xie Zhaodi suddenly realized very clearly that her mother had truly aged.

After the first surgery, the doctor’s prognosis was not optimistic.

A few days later, it happened to rain heavily in the city. Fearing her emotions would affect her mother, Xie Zhaodi used the excuse of buying some fruit to leave the hospital.

She crouched under the bus stop sign, using the sound of the rain to mask her sobbing.

After venting all her emotions and preparing to return to the hospital, she suddenly noticed a small cardboard box next to a roadside trash can.

From inside the box came a very faint meowing. If it weren’t for Xie Zhaodi’s keen ears, she might not have noticed it at all in the heavy rain.

She walked over with her umbrella and opened the box. The cardboard box was already soaked by the rain, and the kitten inside was wet and looked very pitiful.

The weather had already started to cool, and the kitten was shivering in the soaked box.

Just as Xie Zhaodi was unsure what to do, she suddenly heard a familiar voice from behind.

“The kitten looks pitiful. Why don’t we take it home?”

The hospital expenses were really high, so Xie Hui had found a suitable job. His personal abilities were strong, and even though his original education level wasn’t high, he used his skills as a stepping stone to get into a decent company.

He worked in a computer-related job with a high salary, which was enough to cover their daily expenses.

After work, Xie Hui suddenly received a call from the doctor, saying that his mother’s condition was good today. If it didn’t worsen, she should be able to be discharged in less than a month.

When he brought dinner to visit, he happened to see a familiar figure crouching by the trash can at the hospital entrance.

“Do we have the means to keep this kitten now?”

Looking at the shivering kitten in the box, Xie Zhaodi wanted to keep it. But considering their current situation, she suppressed her desire.

“Forget it, let’s find a good adopter for it.”

When she was young, Xie Zhaodi had picked up a cat by the roadside and brought it home, only to be scolded by her grandmother for not having enough food for a cat.

She still remembered saying she would eat less each meal to save some for the cat.

Later, her grandmother made her go hungry for a day and threw the cat out while she was at school.

Coincidentally, that cat was also a tabby, just like the one in the box now.

“Didn’t the doctor tell you today? Mom’s condition is good. If it doesn’t worsen, she can be discharged in a month. I’ve also found a place to rent, so keeping a cat shouldn’t be a problem.”

    “What?”

It had been almost a week since the first surgery. The day after the surgery, they were told the situation wasn’t good, and it scared Xie Zhaodi so much she couldn’t sleep well for days.

“The doctor just called me, saying they couldn’t find you in the hospital, so they called to tell me the good news. Mom’s condition is good.”

    “Really? That’s great, that’s great…”

Having just cried, Xie Zhaodi’s tears welled up again, but this time out of happiness.

Xie Hui took a pack of tissues from his backpack and handed it to her, then took off his coat to wrap the little tabby cat in the box, planning to take it to the pet hospital for a bath and deworming.

“This is the dinner I brought for you. Go back and stay with mom. I’ll take the cat to the pet hospital for boarding, and we’ll bring it home after mom is discharged.”

    “Okay.”

Xie Hui found a pet hospital with a good environment and watched as the staff bathed and dried the little tabby cat.

Small animals can heal the heart in many situations. He had considered buying a pet for Xie Zhaodi to distract her with a cute animal, preventing her from overthinking all day.

Unexpectedly, before he could buy one, Xie Zhaodi had already picked one up.

After settling the kitten, Xie Hui contacted the psychologist he had previously reached out to.

When they first arrived in the capital, Xie Zhaodi was entirely focused on Liu Hui, so it was put on hold.

Based on Xie Hui’s observations and discussions with the psychologist, he felt that Xie Zhaodi wasn’t at the point where she needed to see a doctor in the hospital.

In this world, it was supposed to be the mother’s death that worsened her condition. But now, Liu Hui’s condition was improving, and Xie Zhaodi wasn’t stuck in that oppressive work environment.

Xie Hui wasn’t even sure if Xie Zhaodi had depression, thinking it best to take her to a psychological counseling center first.

If it was confirmed, they could then make an appointment at the hospital.

Liu Hui’s condition continued to improve, thanks to the skilled doctors and excellent equipment at the hospital. After the surgery, apart from the initial poor condition, she was doing quite well now.

After leaving the pet hospital, Xie Hui returned to their rented house to rest. His new job was related to gaming, and the place wasn’t even a company, just a studio created by a wealthy heir.

He hired people to make a game for himself, and among them, Xie Hui was the most skilled, earning the highest salary but also working the hardest.

A month later, Liu Hui was finally discharged and moved into their rented three-bedroom apartment. Before her discharge, the doctor advised that even after recovery, Liu Hui shouldn’t stay up late or do heavy work.

So, before Liu Hui was discharged, Xie Hui hired a part-time housekeeper to do some chores and keep the rental clean.

Xie Hui went to the hospital to bring Liu Hui home, while Xie Zhaodi went to the pet hospital to pick up the kitten, arriving home a bit later than Xie Hui.

The kitten, having stayed at the pet hospital for a while, seemed very lively.

Xie Zhaodi placed the kitten in the living room, holding a cat teaser in her hand. Watching the kitten try hard to catch the teaser, only to tumble over, she covered her mouth and laughed.

Sitting on the sofa, Liu Hui couldn’t help but tear up seeing her daughter’s unclouded smile.
