    Chapter 37: Supernatural World (End)

When Lin Yuetian opened his eyes again, the entire world was different.

The world unfolded before him in a new dimension, twisting lines into indescribable curves and impossible angles. With each step he took, he felt the drastic transformation in his perception more deeply.

“It’s like seeing the world from an ant’s perspective. I can hardly explain it to you,” Lin Yuetian said to the system.

    The system ignored him.

The shock it had just suffered was even greater than when it first witnessed Lin Yuetian commit murder. It was utterly shaken, its tone dazed, mumbling over and over, “This is too bizarre… too bizarre…”

“I’m very powerful now,” Lin Yuetian tried to reassure it from another angle.

“Too bizarre…” the system muttered in agony. “You were… you were… ugh…”

Lin Tongzhao collapsed onto a chair, exhausted, staring blankly at the ceiling. His hands were covered in blood, and the knife lay by his feet. Lin Yuetian’s body was now unrecognizable. Where he had once lain, there was only a ceramic vat as tall as an adult’s thigh.

“It was such a hassle, cleaning you up and fitting you inside,” Lin Tongzhao said with a bitter smile. “I didn’t refine you into a magical artifact. My body is failing, my luck is dwindling—if I were to command you to fight the Jade Ghost, it would probably be a waste of effort. Besides, there isn’t a trace of resentment in you, only killing intent. Even as a ghost, you won’t lose your mind. You’re still rational. So, I figured… I’d just let you go. You’re free… I don’t even know if this was the right decision or not—a free, intelligent vengeful ghost, haha…”

“I’ll make you realize that you made the right choice,” Lin Yuetian replied calmly. Blood continued to seep through his translucent shirt.

“Too bizarre…” The system was completely hollowed out. It could think of nothing. It could process nothing.

Lin Yuetian comforted it a few more times, then stopped talking altogether. He simply waited until nightfall before phasing through the walls, heading directly to find the Jade Ghost.

He hadn’t been bluffing—somehow, he was absurdly powerful. Like a vengeful ghost in a horror film, he could teleport at will, appearing behind, under the bed, or outside the door of an unsuspecting protagonist.

Finding the Jade Ghost was effortless. Lin Yuetian materialized in a blood-red mist outside his former rental apartment and immediately saw black smoke slowly seeping out of the building. A pale yet strikingly handsome face emerged from the darkness—

    The Jade Ghost.

His expression was grim. “You’ve been turned into a ghost… was it to kill me, or for something else? Why did you go this far?”

Lin Yuetian could tell that the Jade Ghost was genuinely baffled. For him, staying alive had become an obsession—so much so that he had endured a century of patience, deceiving the original host, an innocent and devoted lover. The Jade Ghost simply couldn’t comprehend why anyone would willingly walk toward their own death.

“To experience what you feel,” Lin Yuetian murmured with deep affection. “If you are hurt, I am hurt too… We’re lovers, aren’t we? You told me you loved me, and I told you I loved you. Since we’re lovers, we should understand each other. I didn’t understand why you had to kill me just to steal my body, so I died too. I became a ghost, just so I could truly empathize with you. Are you moved? Do you feel my love? Do you feel yourself falling for me?”

    “…Madman.” The Jade Ghost said.

Ever since becoming a ghost, Lin Yuetian had felt his temper worsening. He had known the mission wouldn’t be solved with just a few words, but he still felt a tinge of frustration. Without further nonsense, he stepped closer to the Jade Ghost, his expression mournful—one that belonged to someone deeply wounded by love. It was the kind of look that could break anyone’s heart.

Even the Jade Ghost didn’t step away.

“Do you know what my philosophy is?” Lin Yuetian whispered sorrowfully.

The Jade Ghost remained silent, staring at the familiar yet unfamiliar face before him. It reminded him of the first time he had revealed himself to the original host—the way the man had flinched, like a startled little animal. He had even mocked how weak and cowardly the Lin family descendants had become.

But what about Lin Yuetian now?

His ghostly form dripped with blood. The Jade Ghost knew how excruciating the refining process was—was this man truly fearless? Had he really done all this just for him?

Even though he had treated him so cruelly, why?

For the first time in a century, a strange emotion flickered through the Jade Ghost’s heart. It was unfamiliar. He suddenly found himself reminiscing about the old Lin Yuetian—the one who had blushed slightly, like a living, breathing person, when he had said “I love you.”

    “I don’t know,” the Jade Ghost murmured. “Philosophy… I don’t know… I don’t understand…”

Lin Yuetian stepped even closer, almost whispering against his ear.

The two vengeful ghosts floated above the city, where thousands of lights flickered below, filled with the love and hatred of the living. The Jade Ghost was clad in white ancient robes, while Lin Yuetian wore a bloodstained shirt, still dripping fresh crimson. They looked utterly terrifying.

But Lin Yuetian’s expression was impossibly tender as he leaned close and whispered:

“…If there’s a loophole, not taking advantage of it would be a waste.”

    The Jade Ghost blinked. “What…?”

It was the last thing he ever said.

Lin Yuetian placed a hand on his chest—a touch that could have belonged to an intimate lover. But in the next instant, a surge of killing intent exploded from his palm, piercing straight through the Jade Ghost’s left chest.

The Jade Ghost’s spiritual body began to dissolve. He stared at Lin Yuetian in disbelief, still able to feel that ice-cold hand tightening around his heart. There was no hesitation. No reluctance. No mercy.

    “…As expected…”

Yu Gui heard Lin Yuetian’s voice, utterly calm—almost cold.

“…There is no ‘true heart’ in your chest.”

“Mission One: Determine whether Yu Gui has a true heart—completed,” the system announced. Compared to Lin Yuetian’s physical death, this kind of mass slaughter was already routine. It no longer unsettled him. He felt that he had grown a lot.

    Yu Gui couldn’t understand—

    Did he not love him?

Memories flashed before his eyes. Yu Gui wanted to say something, wanted to ask something. But he couldn’t say a word. He no longer had the chance to understand anything anymore—because Lin Yuetian didn’t plan on giving him that opportunity.

Yu Gui was torn apart by Lin Yuetian’s murderous aura.

“Mission Two: Re-seal Yu Gui—completed,” the system commented. “Very thoroughly completed.”

After finishing the first two missions, Lin Yuetian, using his overwhelming power, rounded up all the wandering ghosts in the city and forced them to read wuxia novels to him every night as bedtime stories. After a full week of this, the system finally announced:

    “Mission Three: No longer alone—completed.”

For the first time, Lin Yuetian chose to leave a small world immediately after completing a mission. His reason? The system had suffered immense psychological trauma, and he was somewhat concerned about its mental health.

“…I watched your body get… ugh…” The system was barely holding it together. Just recalling the scene made it want to throw up. “…You…”

“Don’t your systems have an automatic filter function?” Lin Yuetian recalled some system-related works he had read in the modern world and thoughtfully inquired about the system’s workplace safety.

“Fuck, that feature is for blocking… certain reproductive content! It only activates passively! It’s not something I can just turn on whenever I want!” The system became even more frustrated. The fact that it technically had a filtering function but couldn’t use it made it feel even worse.

Lin Yuetian, ever resourceful, came up with a genius solution.

“How about this? Before I kill people in the future, I’ll engage in… other activities with them first. That way, you won’t be able to see anything.”

    “???”

The system was shocked. Then furious.

“No way!! If you really do that, I’ll be permanently traumatized!! Scaring me is one thing, but don’t you dare desecrate something that’s supposed to be happy and enjoyable!!”

    “Okay,” Lin Yuetian replied understandingly.

“I mean… don’t you think you should see a psychologist? Your ability to empathize is seriously abnormal,” the system brought up the old topic again. But this time, it was genuinely concerned about Lin Yuetian’s well-being, fearing that one day, he might get himself killed without a second thought just for a mission.

“I’m not sick,” Lin Yuetian explained once again, with solid reasoning.

“I have a gentle and reasonable personality. I’m approachable, with no antisocial tendencies. I love life and only want a peaceful, financially free existence. I am diligent, hardworking, optimistic, intelligent, and brave. The dozens of doctors I’ve seen all say I’m perfectly healthy.”

    “…”

    The system was speechless.

    “Fine, whatever you say.”

“But honestly, I do have a job I’d like to recommend to you. It suits your pure ‘just want to work’ attitude perfectly. Plus, it comes with free psychological counseling. Isn’t that ideal for you?”

“What is it?” Lin Yuetian was intrigued.

“I’ll tell you after you finish the tenth world’s mission,” the system said.
