Professional Assassin C29
by MarineTLChapter 29: Interstellar World (4)
Baron Sala’s father was Count Garcia, and his father was Marquis Garcia. He was of noble birth. As for Admiral Vincent, he was a direct descendant of the Empire’s early and most famous mecha genius. That ancestor was one of the first to skillfully use mental power to pilot mechas and fight blood-soaked battles against the Zerg. He had also improved and summarized key knowledge related to mecha combat, and the first mecha combat training manual of the Nas Empire was written by him. Later, his descendants frequently intermarried with the royal family, meaning that Admiral Vincent had a touch of royal blood as well.
These two were not only of the highest nobility, but one was an alpha, the other an omega—one tall and handsome, the other soft and enchanting—truly a match made in heaven. Their wedding was an extravagant affair, with hundreds of airborne live-streaming cameras swooping through the venue like birds, broadcasting the event to the entire Nas Empire. Occasionally, the cameras captured individuals whom the public had only seen in news reports, causing waves of exclamations in the live comment feed.
【Oh my god, isn’t that the General?! I’ve only ever seen him in the annual live broadcast of the Zerg Strategy Conference. I never thought I’d see him in person…】
【What’s there to be excited about? The General has only held his position for so long because he’s an S-Class genius who’s been absent for ages. In a few years, after Admiral Vincent gains more experience, once the General retires, that position will definitely go to Admiral Vincent.】
【Admiral Vincent isn’t just skilled; he’s also incredibly handsome. Camera 14 just caught a shot of him—so handsome!】
【Not only that, but he also married an omega like Baron Sala. Truly enviable…】
【I heard that before the wedding, Admiral Vincent was in a relationship with one of his subordinates. Is that true?】
【You mean that omega soldier with S-Class mental power? I saw a photo—looks just like a beta. Nothing remarkable. Must be a rumor.】
【Even if it’s not a rumor, so what? He’s just a backwater commoner, not even from the homeworld. Being able to have a fling with the Admiral was already a stroke of luck. Did he really think he could marry him? If he had any self-awareness, he’d know that was impossible.】
【I heard that commoner recently suffered mental power exhaustion in battle, leading to gland atrophy. He’s a beta now. Is that true?】
【A backwater hick is still a backwater hick, hahaha. Can’t even fight properly—what a disgrace. If you ask me, the Royal Capital’s military should have banned recruits from remote star systems ages ago. They’re too far from the homeworld; who knows when one of them will turn traitor?】
【Ahhh! I just saw Baron Sala! So beautiful!!】
The live comments scrolled by so quickly that they were nearly unreadable. Baron Sala, dressed in traditional imperial wedding attire, held onto Admiral Vincent’s arm and smiled sweetly at the guests. Vincent also smiled, but his expression was noticeably less sincere. Especially when he saw Lin Yuetian walking toward him—his face immediately darkened.
Lin Yuetian had arrived early. He was dressed in a sharp suit, with a stunningly handsome man following behind him. Vincent didn’t recognize the man, who was curiously looking around. Another live comment flashed past: “The hick’s friend is also a hick.”
Admiral Vincent was now experiencing the rare ordeal of encountering an ex-boyfriend at his wedding, making him somewhat awkward. “Yuetian? And this is…?”
“My cousin from back home,” Lin Yuetian introduced briefly. The “cousin” didn’t speak, merely smiling as he observed the surroundings. “An event of this scale is rare to see, so I brought him along to broaden his horizons.”
Vincent didn’t dwell on the matter. “Why are you here?”
“The Baron invited me,” Lin Yuetian replied politely.
Baron Sala also smiled. “Welcome, honorable soldier of the Empire. Welcome to my wedding with Vincent. Soldier, I actually want to thank you…”
“Sala.” Seeing that Baron Sala was getting a little too carried away—who knew what he might say—Vincent immediately cut him off with a sharp tone.
“What’s wrong, Vincent? Did I say something inappropriate?” Sala’s smile wavered. “We really should be grateful…”
Vincent’s expression grew darker and darker. Without another word, he grabbed Sala’s arm and pulled him away, throwing out a curt, “Excuse us.”
【Five credits says they’re going to argue,】 the system commented philosophically. 【Scumbags really are pathetic.】
Lin Yuetian paid no mind to the system’s remarks. In truth, this minor interlude barely caused a ripple, aside from stirring a few lines of discussion in the comment feed. The wedding proceeded without issue.
By 2 p.m., the giant floating projection clock in the venue chimed, then transformed into a dazzling display of holographic fireworks, scattering cold, artificial sparks in the sky.
Admiral Vincent, dressed in full military uniform, and Baron Sala, clad in a pristine white wedding gown, walked hand in hand through the venue, as if the earlier conflict had never happened. In the midst of cheers and applause, they stepped onto the ceremonial platform. Behind them stood Vincent’s adjutant, Sun Tao, and Baron Sala’s father, Count Garcia. Presiding over the wedding was none other than the Empire’s Crown Prince, George.
360-degree live-streaming cameras continued capturing every angle, ensuring no detail was missed. The screens flooded with congratulatory messages, as if the entire Empire was sincerely celebrating this union. The venue’s dome was open to the sky, revealing a breathtaking view of the swirling stars above. Light from stars millions of light-years away twinkled as if eternal. Before the wedding stage stood a pure white statue of the Nas Empire’s first emperor, three meters tall, its expression solemn yet gentle.
A holographic rain of white petals drifted down, shrouding the scene in an air of serene beauty, creating the illusion that in such a perfect world, there could be no violence, betrayal, or deceit.
“In the light of the Emperor and the stars, you shall now be bound as partners, to share all joys and sorrows, and to walk together through life and fate,” Crown Prince George turned to Baron Sala. “Noble Baron Sala, do you accept?”
“I do…” Sala said with slight shyness.
“And you, loyal Admiral Vincent of the Empire, do you accept?” George smiled at Vincent.
“…I’m ready.” The “cousin” standing beside Lin Yuetian spoke softly.
Vincent happened to glance in Lin Yuetian’s direction. His lips moved slightly, as if saying “I do” was an insurmountable hurdle. Meanwhile, Baron Sala’s smile began to fade. Just as the entire Nas Empire held its breath for Vincent’s answer—
Lin Yuetian suddenly stepped forward. Without hesitation, he summoned his mecha and declared loudly, “I object!”
Gasps erupted among the guests. While Vincent was also shocked, his expression subtly suggested that he had expected this. Seeing this, Baron Sala was furious. He shouted for the attendants to cut the live broadcast while angrily yelling, his voice breaking with emotion, “Lin Yuetian! This is none of your concern! How dare you be so disrespectful before the Crown Prince?!”
As soon as the live stream was halted, the illusionary white petals vanished.
Ignoring Baron Sala’s outburst, Lin Yuetian addressed Vincent with perfect politeness. “Admiral, once upon a time, you promised me a wedding known to the entire Empire. Since everything is already in place, why not fulfill your vow today? It would certainly bolster your reputation as a man of honor.”
Adjutant Sun Tao, who was aware of Vincent and Lin Yuetian’s past, immediately intervened, sternly rebuking, “Soldier! Baron Sala is right. You have no place to speak here! No matter what once was, the Admiral does not love you. Accept reality.”
Lin Yuetian merely smiled. “And what if I refuse?”
【Damn, I believe you now when you said you liked martial arts stories as a kid,】 the system mused. 【But you do realize, the Admiral is going to fight you for this, right? If Sala used your glands to boost his mental power from B to A, he’s now your equal. Aren’t you worried about him tearing you apart in a bridal rage?】
Lin Yuetian calmly replied, “I don’t actually want to steal him back. And if he dares, he’ll have to ask if I allow it.”
