Professional Assassin C26
by MarineTLChapter 26: Interstellar World (1)
Lin Yuetian didn’t stay long in this ancient imperial court world either. He told the system that General Lin would definitely not give up searching for him. Right now, General Lin wielded immense power in court, had significant influence, and his original self was not skilled in martial arts, possessing no combat ability at all. The fact that he managed to hack Zheng Hongxuan to death with a flurry of strikes was purely an explosive burst of strength, and his arms had been sore for quite a while afterward. Looking at it this way, this world was far too dangerous.
Deeply aware of the risks, Lin Yuetian adhered to the principle of enjoying life as early as possible, spending money extravagantly. His lavish lifestyle opened the system’s eyes—demonstrating how to burn through a massive fortune in the shortest time possible. It seemed that Lin Yuetian had been holding back before, not yet unleashing his full capabilities.
Under Lin Yuetian’s opulent lifestyle, he only spent about a year and a half in this world before telling the system he was leaving. His commission had already been squandered, and there was no point in staying any longer.
“Do you have anything to say?” Lin Yuetian asked the system while it was reviewing the information for the next world.
“What would I say?” The system was confused. “Is there something I should be saying?”
“It seems like after every world, you always give me a little lecture—telling me to consult with you in the future or warning me not to hold another funeral wedding…” Lin Yuetian recalled. “Not this time?”
“…It seems not,” the system thought carefully along his line of reasoning. “Although your actions in this world were also bizarre, filled with feudal superstition, and had quite the horror movie vibe, at least there was nothing particularly grotesque this time. My heart has become numb—I no longer feel any emotional ups and downs over these mundane matters. That said, if you really value my advice so much, maybe stop listening to it so earnestly while refusing to change a damn thing!”
Lin Yuetian nodded thoughtfully. “I understand.”
The system had no interest in knowing what exactly he had understood, nor did it wish to pursue the matter. It didn’t want to bring trouble upon itself. “If I must say something… there is one thing.”
“What is it?”
“If you insist on engaging in close combat with melee weapons in the future, use a sword,” the system said seriously. “The aftermath of using a blade is too gruesome—I can’t bear to watch.”
—
When Lin Yuetian regained consciousness and slowly opened his eyes, he once again found himself lying in a hospital room.
“Second time in a row—surprised?” The system sounded composed, but there was an unmistakable hint of mischief.
Lin Yuetian glanced around, intrigued to find that this hospital room appeared to be quite high-tech and futuristic, reminiscent of his homeworld. However, the overall aesthetic of his original world had been more wild—people there practically had data cables sticking out of their heads, and even medical devices had exposed circuits. By contrast, this world’s design leaned towards cleanliness, simplicity, and order.
He stretched his arms in a chest-expanding motion while checking his physical condition. Puzzled, he asked, “What illness did this original body have? I don’t feel anything off at first glance.”
“Good question. But let me ask you something in return,” the system replied with an oddly serious yet playful tone. “Listen carefully: how many sexes do humans have?”
Lin Yuetian answered without hesitation, “That depends—are we talking about natural humans, bionic humans, or modified humans? I once met a female cyborg who installed a neon, rotating—”
“Stop, stop, stop!” The system cut him off immediately. It had a bad feeling that if it let him finish, he’d spout something downright mentally corrupting. Annoyed, it said, “This world has six sexes.”
“Six sexes?” Lin Yuetian was curious and unashamed to ask, “Is it based on concentration ratios?”
“You f—” The system nearly choked on its own code. “Forget it. This is my fault. I should never have tried to joke around with you… Just accept the memory first.”
Lin Yuetian was about to defend his impeccable sense of humor when the original body’s memories suddenly flooded his mind.
In this world, aside from male and female, there was also an Alpha, Beta, and Omega classification system. Regardless of gender, Alphas had stronger physiques and could impregnate others, while Betas were no different from regular men and women in other worlds. Omegas, on the other hand, tended to have more delicate constitutions and could bear children. Both Alphas and Omegas experienced periodic susceptibility phases during which they released pheromones that attracted each other. In this world, marking an Omega during their susceptibility period was an extremely serious matter, almost equivalent to marriage—far more serious than mere cohabitation before wedlock.
Roughly two centuries ago, humanity suddenly developed psychic abilities. Thanks to this advancement, people were able to achieve feats previously thought impossible—such as piloting massive mechas and venturing into space. Now, two centuries later, humanity had fully expanded across the stars. The primary ruling power was the Nas Empire, and humanity’s greatest enemies were the ever-present alien insectoids.
Against the naturally combat-oriented insectoids, humans were inherently weak. Their only means of resistance was piloting mechas using psychic abilities. In fact, psychic abilities didn’t just allow humans to hold their own; they even gave them a slight upper hand in the ongoing war against the insectoids. As a result, psychic strength was incredibly important in this world. The Nas Empire had established a universal ranking system for psychic abilities, graded from highest to lowest: S, A, B, C, D, and E.
The original body of Lin Yuetian in this world was a male Omega from a remote planet. He was miraculously discovered to have a rare S-rank psychic ability and was sent to the Nas Empire’s capital to enlist in the military. There, he developed feelings for his superior officer, Marshal Vincent—an S-rank psychic Alpha from a noble background.
However, this was not a rags-to-riches fairytale.
Marshal Vincent’s true love was his childhood friend, the Beta nobleman Salagassia. Given Vincent’s high status, he could never marry a Beta, as doing so would affect the psychic potential of his descendants, thereby endangering the future of the Empire. Because of this, Vincent set his sights on the lowborn host’s original body.
After a major battle with the insectoids, Vincent secretly performed an illegal surgery on the heavily injured host, transplanting his Omega glands into Salagassia. Publicly, he claimed that the host had suffered severe psychic depletion in battle, causing his glands to atrophy and turning him into a Beta.
When the host awoke, he found that Vincent had publicly announced his engagement to Salagassia, with the entire internet celebrating their perfect match. Realizing he had been betrayed by his lover, stripped of his identity, and downgraded to an A-rank Beta, the protagonist was consumed by rage and despair. Overwhelmed by multiple blows, he ultimately failed to recover from post-surgery complications.
And that was when Lin Yuetian arrived.
“The original body’s wishes are threefold,” the system stated matter-of-factly.
“One, take revenge on Baron Salagassia. Two, prevent Vincent’s wedding and make him willingly marry you in a public ceremony acknowledged across the Empire. Three, achieve interstellar fame.”
Lin Yuetian massaged his temples. “Can I still pilot mechas with my current psychic ability?”
“Yes, your military rank remains intact. A-rank psychic ability is still quite decent, though you’ll never regain your former strength. The original host couldn’t accept this reality—he was rather proud and ambitious,” the system replied.
Upon hearing that he could still operate a mecha, Lin Yuetian immediately jumped out of bed, flexed his wrists, and said enthusiastically, “I’ll go test it out.”
About two hours later, after trying out a mecha, Lin Yuetian returned to the hospital room and lay back down as if nothing had happened, waiting for the nurse to administer his routine recovery injection.
He mused to the system, “I really am kind of amazing, huh?”
