    Chapter 57: ?? World (1)

After hanging up the call, Lin Yuetian immediately transferred the line to Chen Chen, unhesitatingly providing the police with all relevant information, including Jiang Shaoxuan’s phone number. Given his mission, there was no way he would let Jiang Shaoxuan escape. As for Huo Chengye? Jiang Shaoxuan wasn’t wrong—given the time he had, he could have killed him a dozen times over.

The police quickly took action. Although Jiang Shaoxuan attempted to flee, he was ultimately intercepted on the highway leading out of the city, apprehended on the spot by Chen Chen and other criminal investigators. At the same time, the system officially announced the completion of the mission: capturing the Rainy Night Striker.

During interrogation, Jiang Shaoxuan confessed that, after being righteously rejected by Lin Yuetian and realizing he had no way to turn back, he decided to kill Huo Chengye to make his own escape easier.

As someone who had already established a deep and devoted persona among Chen Chen and other acquaintances, Lin Yuetian naturally took on the role of a heartbroken ex-boyfriend and a man of justice. He demanded an answer from Chen Chen—how had Jiang Shaoxuan learned about his personal relationships in the first place?

“If this isn’t the classic case of a thief crying ‘Stop, thief!’…” the system leaned back dramatically in mock exasperation.

Much later, Chen Chen told Lin Yuetian that Jiang Shaoxuan had confessed to receiving an anonymous call from someone inside the police department. This person had revealed Lin Yuetian’s relationships and even encouraged him to kidnap Huo Chengye. Jiang Shaoxuan also handed over a bank account number, but the details of the account were heavily concealed using highly advanced hacking techniques. The only thing Chen Chen was sure of was that there was a traitor within their team.

As a result, an internal investigation was launched. Though they didn’t manage to find the mysterious mole, they did uncover two undercover agents and several officers guilty of misconduct.

In a way, Lin Yuetian had made a small positive contribution. At least, the system was moved to tears by how normal his behavior had been in this world, feeling so emotional that it nearly wanted to announce to the world: “Lin Yuetian is showing signs of recovery!”

By the time Chen Chen made this call to Lin Yuetian, he had already left the city. In fact, the moment Jiang Shaoxuan was taken into custody, he had declared that he was too heartbroken to love again, that he only wished to fulfill his past promises with Huo Chengye and live out his remaining years in solitude, under the light of an oil lamp and the teachings of Buddha…

In short, after resigning from his detective position, he went on a trip to Europe.

Lin Yuetian didn’t stay long in this world either, for the same reason as before—he wanted to reach the tenth world as soon as possible to see exactly what kind of job the system had arranged for him.

“The tenth world will be quite difficult,” the system warned. “How should I put it… You could think of it as a job interview.”

“Have some faith in my professional skills,” Lin Yuetian responded confidently.

“I do,” the system said. “Anyway, do your best. I’d really like to keep working with you, so… make sure you don’t disappoint me, Mr. Assassin.”

When Lin Yuetian opened his eyes, he found himself wearing a typical blue-and-white school tracksuit uniform, lying face-down on an equally typical classroom desk.

As soon as he woke up, the system’s voice started narrating in his head. Though Lin Yuetian was usually unshakable, he still couldn’t help but mentally type out a gigantic question mark: “?”

“Of course, Lin Yuetian found it very strange. Why wasn’t his system colleague communicating with him normally as usual? Why was it suddenly talking like a narrator? Had the system stopped transmitting the original host’s memories and announcing missions? Without the great system’s assistance, and without the original host’s memories, how was he supposed to complete the mission?”

Lin Yuetian questioned in his mind, “Wait, but I wasn’t thinking that…?”

Mission for this world: Without access to the original host’s memories, do not contradict the narrator’s descriptions while eliminating all anomalous energy points in this world. These include, but are not limited to: Reincarnators, Game Players, Transmigrators, and Infinite Stream Players…

Lin Yuetian let out a low whistle and remarked, “This world is pretty lively. Who would have thought that this seemingly ordinary school setting would be hiding so many crouching tigers hidden dragons?”

“Lin Yuetian had attended classes all morning, and he was already quite tired. He stretched lazily and decided to chat with the classmate beside him. After all, he was a bright, cheerful, and kind-hearted young man.”

Lin Yuetian obediently stretched his body according to the system’s narration, then turned to his deskmate. “What’s the first class this afternoon?”

“Physics,” his deskmate answered casually before turning to look at him in confusion. “Wait, Lin Yuetian, why didn’t you bring lunch to Wang Yunzhi today?”

Lin Yuetian noted the information silently while keeping a neutral expression. “I was a bit tired today, so I decided to take a break for a while.”

    Mentally, he recorded:

Clue 1: The original host’s personality was supposed to be the bright, cheerful, and kind-hearted type.

Clue 2: The original host delivered lunch to Wang Yunzhi every day at noon.

Clue 3: Wang Yunzhi was the “school heartthrob,” making it highly likely that he was a key character.

“Yeah, that makes sense,” the deskmate nodded in agreement before sighing. “Honestly, just attending classes every day is exhausting enough. But you still make all that delicious food for Wang Yunzhi every day, and for what? He doesn’t even look at it. Forget you, even I feel tired just watching you.”

Clue 4: Wang Yunzhi was indifferent toward the original host. While their actual relationship was unclear, the probability of him being a scummy love interest mission target had increased.

“Thanks,” Lin Yuetian said sincerely, appreciating the useful information. He thought for a moment before asking, “Has anything interesting happened at school lately? Like any students who’ve suddenly changed a lot?”

    “Changed a lot?”

“Yeah,” Lin Yuetian listed examples smoothly. “Like someone who suddenly got a fever and then their grades skyrocketed, or someone who used to have thick bangs but suddenly cut them off, or someone who used to be timid but suddenly became really assertive…”

“Why does that sound so weird… Let me think… A classmate who changed a lot… Oh! I remember now! There is one! Do you remember? Last time during the essay competition, you happened to sprain your ankle and didn’t sign up. A student from the neighboring class won first place. You even said their writing style was very similar to yours and that you might become friends. That student was someone no one had heard of before, but recently, they’ve suddenly become really popular,” the deskmate said.

“I see…” Lin Yuetian responded ambiguously. “Hmm, what’s his name?”

“Why do you sound so strange…” The deskmate shivered inexplicably. “Did you really forget? His name is Su Huaiyu.”

Clue five: Su Huaiyu has undergone a sudden major change and is very likely one of the mission targets.

The system suddenly spoke up, probably because it couldn’t bear to see Lin Yuetian gradually breaking character—just look at how the poor kid next to him was already trembling.

“Lin Yuetian chatted with his deskmate for a while and couldn’t help but think of Wang Yunzhi… How was Wang Yunzhi doing now? Was he hungry? Was he thirsty? If Lin Yuetian didn’t go, would Wang Yunzhi find it a little strange, a little forlorn, a little heartbroken? Thinking of this, Lin Yuetian felt as if a knife was stabbing his heart! Even though he had just said he was a bit tired, Lin Yuetian still immediately got ready to bring Wang Yunzhi his lunch.”

Lin Yuetian sincerely asked the system, which of course wouldn’t answer him, “Sorry, but may I boldly ask—are you taking revenge on me?”
