Chapter 4: Completing a Job in the Cultivation World (4)

The original body had really gathered an extensive array of spells for Shao Feng Immortal with painstaking efforts. Lin Yuetian didn’t waste much time and quickly found the spells he needed from the vast sea of memories—spells for changing appearance, concealing presence, and tracking people.

“Sigh…” Lin Yuetian sighed deeply. “What a pity.”

“What’s wrong? Do you also sympathize with the original body’s fate?” the system asked.

“Actually, I do too, which is why I applied for this job…”

“No, I just feel regretful,” Lin Yuetian expressed his disappointment, “The original body had such great talent, such determination, such perseverance… With such good qualities, what occupation couldn’t he use to get rich? If he had a colder heart, he wouldn’t need to struggle like me, barely earning a few hard-earned coins.”

Lin Yuetian recalled his life in the original world, where he encountered robbery three times and gunfights six times every month on his way to work. He couldn’t help but express his feelings. The system, however, was left speechless and a little puzzled.

After a brief moment of sentimentality, Lin Yuetian returned to his focused state. He used the tracking spell and locked onto the location of Lu Shui Immortal with his divine sense. Changing his appearance and concealing his aura, he quietly followed and observed, looking for the best opportunity to strike. As he looked, he was somewhat taken aback.

The discovery of Shan An’s death had already been made. Before his death, he had sent a message back to the sect, claiming that Lin Yuetian was dead, and then his whereabouts vanished. His master, worried, sent an immortal servant to search along the mountain gate.

The servant found Shan An’s dismembered body in a grass hut where passing cultivators used to rest. However, Lin Yuetian’s corpse and the Zhanfeng Sword had disappeared. This caused a great stir in the Qingfeng Sect. But to put it bluntly, the loss of Shao Feng Immortal’s spirit sword was of much greater concern.

“The original body was too low-key,” Lin Yuetian commented. “I think he should have actively demonstrated his power, showing that he was stronger than Shao Feng, rather than remaining so low-key. If the title of the number one in the world belonged to the original body, do you think Shao Feng would dare to act so recklessly?”

The system responded, “I don’t guess.”

But in any case, Qingfeng Sect chose the safest approach: they placed a strict ban on the entire sect and reinforced the mountain gate’s formation.

Lin Yuetian learned from the memories that this mountain gate formation was difficult to deal with. Although he had enough confidence and patience to wait for the day he could kill the target, if this job couldn’t be completed within the promised seven days, wouldn’t that ruin his reputation? Lin Yuetian felt more and more distressed.

If an assassin had a bad reputation, they could only take small jobs, working on low profits but high volume—too exhausting! Moreover, with things like this, he couldn’t even approach Shao Feng Immortal, let alone complete the mission.

But things soon took a turn for the better.

The breakthrough came at the upcoming ceremony between Shao Feng Immortal and Lu Shui Immortal.

Although Qingfeng Sect didn’t overly pursue the eradication of human desires and was essentially a sect for spiritual cultivation, they rarely held ceremonies like the contract ceremony. They didn’t even often hold small rituals for ordinary cultivators. But since one of the main figures in the ceremony was the top immortal cultivator, Shao Feng Immortal, who was known as the number one in the world, how could they not make a grand event out of it? If they handled it hastily, wouldn’t they be laughed at for being miserably poor?

Other things were taken care of by immortal servants, but there was one thing that Lu Shui couldn’t let go of and insisted on personally selecting: the wedding attire for the two of them at the ceremony.

During this time, Lu Shui frequently left Qingfeng Sect at fixed times and went to a clothing store in the immortal city to customize the wedding clothes. Every day, he went to supervise the work, and the whole shop was booked with a high price to serve only him. He came from a high background, had great talent, and was very handsome, always looking down on others. He never cared about Qingfeng Sect’s restrictions, which gave Lin Yuetian a perfect opportunity. According to his memories, he had the cultivation of the number one in the world in the Tribulation Stage, while Lu Shui was just in the Body Integration Stage, one full realm lower than him. He could defeat him easily.

But Lin Yuetian had other plans.

That morning, Lin Yuetian disguised himself as a male cultivator in the Nascent Soul Stage and went alone to the clothing store. The boss was dozing, and when he heard footsteps, he didn’t even look up and said, “Sorry, this shop is reserved by Lu Shui Immortal from Qingfeng Sect, and we’re not taking any other customers…”

Lin Yuetian immediately raised his hand and slammed the shop door, quickly using two fingers to cast a spell, knocking the boss unconscious and hiding him in the warehouse. Then, he went into the inner room of the shop, where two exquisite red wedding dresses, so beautiful that even cultivators would be moved, were placed. Unfortunately, Lin Yuetian didn’t have an artistic eye. He didn’t blink and immediately used two spells on the wedding dresses. Then, he changed into the boss’s clothes and took on the appearance of the elderly cultivator. After disguising his aura, he casually sat at the counter in the chair that the boss had always kept away from his apprentices and pretended to doze off.

The Zhanfeng Sword was stored in a storage bag, which was hidden in his left sleeve. Lin Yuetian rested his chin on his right hand, appearing half-asleep, but his left arm was tense, ready to spring into action. His eyes seemed to be closed, but they were focused on the open door.

“You wouldn’t…” the system hesitated and asked, “Wait for Lu Shui Immortal to come in and then stab him with the sword?”

“Of course not,” Lin Yuetian answered in his mind. “If I did that, I might as well just assassinate him on the street. At least the street is wide, and it would be easier to escape.”

This conversation didn’t last long. The system noticed that Lin Yuetian seemed to have entered a different state, so it didn’t dare to disturb him and instead prayed internally that the development of the mission wouldn’t become too outrageous.

Time passed, and as the afternoon came, the sun began to slant. When the first beam of sunlight hit the doorstep, a perfectly clean boot stepped inside.

“He’s here,” Lin Yuetian announced in his mind.

Lu Shui Immortal arrived. He looked as beautiful as the moon, wearing embroidered robes, a pearl hanging at his waist, exuding an overwhelming aura of authority, and carrying himself arrogantly. In the original body’s memories, Lu Shui Immortal had always been someone with a haughty attitude. He never liked bringing immortal servants or bodyguards, which wasn’t surprising for someone in the Body Integration Stage. Unfortunately, today, his arrogance would lead to disastrous consequences.

Lin Yuetian feigned waking up from a nap, yawning as he stood up. He imitated the boss’s tone and politely said, “Oh… Immortal Master, you’ve come.”

Lu Shui snorted lightly in response and then asked, “Last time you promised the wedding clothes would be ready today, where are they?”

“They’re ready, ready… Congratulations on your big day, Immortal Master!” Lin Yuetian swung open the curtain with one hand and pointed gently toward the door with the other. Using a concealment spell, he made sure that his higher cultivation level wouldn’t be noticed. “The wedding clothes are inside. Please, Immortal Master, come in.”

Lu Shui lifted his head and entered the inner room. He looked at the two wedding dresses with satisfaction in his eyes. “Your craftsmanship has always been good.”

“Would Immortal Master like to try them on?” Lin Yuetian stood behind him, pointing to a mirror nearby. “Wedding clothes are meant to fit perfectly, so it’s best to try them on, Immortal Master, and see if they suit your taste?”

“Alright,” Lu Shui nodded slightly. He pointed to one of the wedding dresses, and it flew to him. A flash of immortal light enveloped him, and in an instant, he was dressed in the clothes.

Lin Yuetian bent down, walked behind him, and adjusted the wedding dress’s hem. Lu Shui naturally turned to face the mirror, looking at his reflection. In his eyes was the excitement of having everything he wished for. He didn’t regret anything, especially framing Lin Yuetian. He knew that as long as Lin Yuetian was still alive, Shao Feng would never wholeheartedly form a contract with him. Lu Shui exhaled slowly and couldn’t help but smile. “As expected, it fits perfectly—”

His words were cut off, and his smile froze on his face.

Lin Yuetian remained bent over behind him, and the Zhanfeng Sword appeared in his left hand, stabbing directly from below into Lu Shui Immortal’s lower back.

“Don’t panic, my sword is fast and won’t hurt much,” Lin Yuetian said gently, using his usual line. “Dust to dust, ashes to ashes, debts with their owners. I’m just a hired killer. If you have any unfinished business, go find my employer… I wonder if there’s such a thing as reincarnation in this world—you can come back to life and I’ll help you deal with your enemies. But in any case, your grievances have nothing to do with me.”

He spoke quickly and softly. Although Lu Shui was still alive, it sounded like he was already dead.

The wedding dress was enchanted with a binding spell, which blocked divine power and large movements. Lin Yuetian hadn’t expected things to go so smoothly. Perhaps Lu Shui Immortal was just too foolish.

The original body couldn’t even defeat such an idiot. Wasn’t that even dumber…

Lin Yuetian quickly shook his head: “What a sin. I shouldn’t be criticizing the dead.”
