Chapter 39: Modern Plane – This Room Won’t Do, But Maybe Another?

    “What a beautiful house.”

“It’s not made of wood? How was this built?” Bai Yu reached out and touched the wall of the building. “How can a house be made so white?”

“And this, Eldest Sister, look,” Bai Xi walked quickly to the window. “This… is a window, right? Why is the window colorless? You don’t even have to open it to see what it’s like outside… Heavens…”

“What is it?” Bai Yu immediately pulled Bai Miao along and walked to the window. She was also filled with shock when she saw the scene outside. “How… how did it become like this?”

Bai Xi placed her hand on the window, the shock in her eyes lingering. “Such a fine place, yet so much of it has collapsed. Could it be like the Magic Plane, trampled by Magic Beasts?”

“If it were Magic Beasts, it might be crushed even flatter, but even as it is now, something major must have happened,” Bai Yu said heavily, her gaze fixed on the distance. “For such a vast area to end up like this, the event must have been catastrophic.”

Having just arrived at a New Plane, their hearts were full of curiosity, yet they had witnessed the ruin of this world before they could even begin to explore it.

At this moment, the pristine white walls and transparent windows left only a shallow impression on them; they felt more heartache and pity for the desolate environment outside.

Just then, they suddenly heard footsteps.

The sound approached rapidly. Before they could react, a person had already reached the doorway. Dark spots were splattered across his face. Looking closely, they were droplets of blood. This man stood at the door, baring his teeth and laughing at them. “There are actually people here.”

“What are you trying to do?” Bai Yu held Bai Miao and moved closer to Bai Xi, the three sisters huddling together.

The man didn’t listen to them, his eyes fixed greedily on Bai Miao. “It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten such a tender little person.”

They could understand this man’s words.

Bai Yu quickly handed Bai Miao over to Bai Xi. “Quick, proceed to access.”

As she spoke, the man had already lunged forward, swinging a fist at Bai Yu.

Bai Yu raised her foot and delivered a fierce kick to the man’s body.

    [Proceed to Access?]

    “Proce…”

“Wait,” Bai Yu interrupted, looking at the man who had been kicked back to the doorway and was currently spitting up blood. “We can’t let him see us access the transit.”

“Eldest Sister, there’s blood on his face, and he just said those things,” Bai Xi said hurriedly. “He tried to attack us first. If he stays alive, we’ll be in great danger.”

Bai Yu’s expression was grim. “We still don’t know the situation in this New Plane.”

“But it’s definitely dangerous,” Bai Xi said. “Maybe there’s some special magic here like in the Magic Plane. If news about us gets out, we won’t be able to come to this plane anymore.”

    Bai Yu nodded slowly.

They had lived on the water before and had never encountered any great danger. Even in the Magic Plane and the White Mist Plane, they hadn’t run into trouble.

But when this man rushed them just now, she had truly felt a sense of impending crisis.

They had only just arrived at this plane and already encountered such a dangerous situation. If they let this man spread the word, they would likely face even more trouble in the future.

Thinking this, Bai Yu cautiously stepped forward. As she knelt down to check, she discovered something. “He seems to be dead.”

“He’s not breathing?” Bai Xi also walked over and stood by the side to look. “It seems so. Eldest Sister, you kicked him to death just now.”

“Me?” Bai Yu looked at her own foot. “Am I really this strong now?”

“Since we started cultivating and our strength increased, we haven’t really encountered many outsiders,” Bai Xi said, covering Bai Miao’s eyes. “But this man was a villain. He just tried to… but what do we do now? We can’t just leave him here.”

Bai Yu lowered her head and checked carefully once more, confirming that the man was indeed dead. After thinking for a moment, she said, “Let’s throw him into the sea to feed the fish. It just so happens I wove a large straw mat a couple of days ago.”

Bai Xi looked at the man with disgust. “It’s a pity for that straw mat you spent so many days weaving, Eldest Sister.”

A straw mat could be rewoven, but if they didn’t wrap him in it, the man was still dripping blood; they couldn’t just put him on the boat like that.

No sooner said than done. The three of them moved quickly, returning to the island to get hay and the straw mat. They wiped the blood off him and wrapped him in the mat. Bai Yu and Bai Xi each took an end and carried him back to the island.

Then they transferred him to the boat, sailed a certain distance away from the small island, and tossed the man and the straw mat into the sea together.

Afterward, they returned to the island without pause.

After such an incident, they were all a bit shaken. At that moment, they didn’t dare go to the New Plane again, so they kept themselves busy on the island.

Three days passed this way. Once their moods had settled, they took the Transit Pass and went to the New Plane again.

The landing point was the same spot where they had left. Upon arriving at the New Plane, the three of them waited in place for a while. They didn’t hear any footsteps; in fact, there was no sound at all.

The stairs only went down, not up, which meant their current position was on the top floor of this building.

“Shall we go down and look?”

    “Mhm, stay slow.”

They went down one floor via the stairs; no one was there.

Down another floor; still no one.

    And another, and another.

Bai Xi looked up at the spiraling handrail above. “Why is this building so tall? how many floors have we walked down?”

“Seven? Eight?” Bai Yu also looked up. “How can there be such a tall building?”

“And such a tall building has no people,” Bai Xi said, turning to look down. She could only see the spiraling handrails winding down. “There are many more floors below. Eldest Sister, should we keep going down?”

Bai Yu scanned the surroundings and pointed to a nearby door. “Let’s check over there.”

Next to them were the rooms of the building. Almost every door was wide open. There were no signs of anyone living inside, but every single object within filled them with wonder.

Smooth tables, comfortable chairs, transparent glass, beautiful cabinets. They knew the general use of these things, but they couldn’t quite tell what materials they were made of.

They checked the rooms on almost every floor they reached, but every single room was empty.

If they hadn’t encountered that man three days ago, seeing this situation, they would truly have thought there were no people in this plane at all.

Unsurprisingly, when they looked outside through the windows, they still saw no one outside the building. The exterior remained a scene of ruin.

“There’s no one. How did that man jump out before? It was so coincidental, coming over right when we appeared. Luckily he wasn’t powerful, otherwise it would have been truly terrifying.”

“With the outside looking like this, this plane must be very dangerous,” Bai Yu said, looking out the window. “Maybe we should go back up. The floors are so high here; the upper levels might not be as dangerous.”

“I just hope no more bad people show up,” Bai Xi said, shaking a door. “Are the doors here safe? Even if we lock them, can they hold? Could someone break in?”

“What if we use an Upgrade Card?” Bai Yu suggested. “The Check-in Shell gives us 30 Upgrade Cards every thirty days. It won’t hurt to use one here.”

They had been able to save up a batch of Upgrade Cards mainly because they had previously focused their time on upgrading the Small Pier and the house on the island, both of which required time to gather materials.

As for other small items, they were truly loath to waste Upgrade Cards on them.

Generally, after a house was upgraded, only they could enter. If others wanted to enter, they would have to pay a fee, just like in the White Mist Plane.

If they could upgrade the housing here directly, they wouldn’t have to worry about someone suddenly bursting through the door every time they visited. In such a situation, even if people were making a scene outside, they would have enough time to safely exit this plane.

Deciding to act immediately, they headed back up the stairs to the top floor and chose one of the apartments there to upgrade.

    [Upgrade Successful]

[Nearby individuals seeking rental housing detected. Would you like to make the housing information public?]

    “Pub…”

Bai Yu quickly covered Bai Miao’s mouth, as the girl always tended to blurt out answers to “yes or no” prompts.

Bai Xi laughed from the side, reaching out to poke Bai Miao’s forehead. “Miao Miao, did you already forget what we told you before?”

Bai Miao blinked, looking at Bai Xi with an innocent expression.

“You definitely forgot, so don’t play dumb with me,” Bai Xi poked her again. “We still don’t know what the situation is like here. You can’t speak so quickly. If people show up, we might not be able to handle them.”

    Bai Miao nodded repeatedly.

Bai Yu glanced down at her and finally released the hand covering her mouth.

Bai Xi looked at her again. “So, are we going to rent it out?”

“We can, but it has to be like the White Mist Plane. We can’t show our faces. After all, we don’t know what this plane is like. If someone finds out we’re the owners, they might harbor ill intentions.” Bai Yu looked at the house that had just been successfully upgraded. The door was closed, but when she placed her hand on the handle, it pushed open easily.

“It doesn’t look any different from before. No wonder they wouldn’t let us collect materials,” Bai Xi said, walking a few circles around the room.

“There is a difference. You can lock the door here, and not just anyone can enter,” Bai Yu said, thinking back to the prompt she just saw. “If we rent it out, perhaps only the tenant will be able to enter. If that’s the case, even if they encounter bad people, they can stay inside the house in peace.”

“In that case, if I were living in this plane, I might be willing to rent it.”

They walked around the room a few more times. Indeed, they found that the house looked no different than before, but even so, such a dwelling was something they had never seen before.

“Can we sleep here?” Bai Xi pointed at the bed in the room. “This place is much cleaner than the island.”

“But it would consume time on the Transit Pass,” Bai Yu replied. As Bai Xi nodded with a look of regret, Bai Yu added, “However, we can move this bed back. The two-story building on the island can fit several beds now.”

As she spoke, she shared a look with Bai Xi, and the two of them went to move the bed together.

[The bed is an integral part of the house and cannot be moved out of the building.]

    “It actually won’t work?”

“This room won’t work, but what about the others? The ones that haven’t been upgraded?”

    “It’s worth a try. Let’s go!”
