    Chapter 32: Supernatural World (1)

When Lin Yuetian woke up this time, he found himself lying face down in the modest living room of a modern rental apartment. His forehead was covered in blood, and there were large bloodstains all over the floor.

“Am I about to die?” Lin Yuetian propped himself up and sat down, carefully assessing his condition. “Seems like I’m okay… just that this body feels a bit weak. How could someone so young already be drained dry?”

“—Watch out!” In a flash, the system suddenly shouted.

Lin Yuetian’s reaction was nothing short of swift. He rolled on the ground, retreating backward with a speed that completely surpassed the limits of his weakened body. The moment he moved, a kitchen knife came crashing down right where he had just been, embedding itself deeply into the floor!

“? Why is there a kitchen knife here?” Lin Yuetian wasn’t particularly alarmed. He simply looked up at the ceiling in confusion and pulled the knife out.

    It was quite heavy.

He weighed the knife in his hand and figured it could serve as a decent self-defense weapon, so he simply kept hold of it. However, the system’s voice was noticeably tense, clearly worried for Lin Yuetian’s safety, which was a rare occurrence. “Forget about that! Get out of this apartment right now! Go somewhere with sunlight—this place is dangerous! I can’t let you receive the memory here! Move!”

Hearing the system’s serious tone, Lin Yuetian didn’t hesitate. He walked straight to the door and tried to open it. But strangely enough, the ordinary security door seemed to be welded shut—it wouldn’t budge no matter how hard he pulled. Even the doorknob remained completely still, as if fused in place. What was even more unsettling was that Lin Yuetian could clearly feel the metal of the doorknob growing colder in his grip, almost as if he were holding a block of ice.

At the same time, something even more terrifying started happening. Right before Lin Yuetian’s eyes, the entire door was gradually turning a deep, blood-red color, as though it had been doused in fresh human blood. The spreading stain looked just like someone bleeding out onto a sponge.

Inside Lin Yuetian’s mind, the system had gone completely silent, leaving only the sound of its breathing. In just a few blinks of an eye, something even more horrifying occurred—strands of hair began creeping in through the doorframe!

Thick, black, blood-stained hair surged in, writhing as if alive, struggling to break through the door and flood into the room, as if it wanted to devour every living thing inside!

Lin Yuetian immediately backed away, putting distance between himself and the eerie, transforming door. With composure, he grabbed a chair nearby and swung it hard at the window.

Of course, this apartment was bizarre. All the windows were boarded up with wooden planks. Lin Yuetian was certain he had used enough force, and even if the wood was tough, it should have at least trembled slightly. But strangely enough, the planks didn’t even quiver.

By this time, the door had turned completely blood-red, and an all-encompassing chill filled the air. Lin Yuetian couldn’t help but shiver. The hair seeping through the cracks had gone berserk, making the entire door shake violently, as if it were a candle flickering in the wind—any second now, it seemed like the door would burst open completely!

At this desperate moment, when there was no way forward or back, the system finally mustered enough courage (though it probably had Lin Yuetian’s constant defiance to thank for toughening it up) and shouted, “Quick! Hide in one of the inner rooms!”

But before the system could finish speaking, Lin Yuetian had already walked straight up to the door. Without hesitation, he grabbed the doorknob, completely ignoring the blood-red door and the writhing hair.

With a swift motion, he yanked the door open and dashed out without looking back.

“There’s a ghost outside!” The system screamed, nearly shrieking with panic.

But to its surprise, there was nothing outside.

    No ghosts.

    No abnormalities.

Just the corridor of an ordinary residential building.

It appeared to be the second floor. Sunlight was streaming in from below.

The strands of hair had all disappeared, as if they had never existed in the first place.

The system was still shaken, utterly dumbfounded, unable to form a single coherent thought.

Meanwhile, Lin Yuetian leisurely walked down the stairs and into the sunlight outside.

    Nothing happened.

“This world has ghosts?” Lin Yuetian asked calmly, his voice so steady that the system suspected his heart rate hadn’t even gone up.

“Ah… yes, it does. You should receive the memories now…” The system, still in shock over how Lin Yuetian had just strolled out like it was nothing, answered mechanically and transferred the original body’s memories to him.

Lin Yuetian wandered around the residential complex.

    It was early morning.

Elderly folks were practicing Tai Chi.

Office workers were rushing to catch their morning commute.

Parents were leading their children to school.

Everywhere, there was a sense of normalcy—serene and peaceful.

Who would have thought that beneath this tranquil facade, this world was home to ghosts that could claim human lives?

Lin Yuetian finally stopped at a breakfast shop in the residential area and took out the original host’s phone from his waistband. Thanks to previous worlds, he at least knew how to live normally in a modern society that wasn’t as advanced as his original world. Lin Yuetian ordered a bowl of porridge and, while waiting for it to be served, began massaging his temples and carefully organizing the vast amount of information in his mind.

In this world, Lin Yuetian had lost both parents at a young age and had no relatives, always living alone. Until last year’s Qingming Festival, when he returned to his ancestral village, Linjia Village, to visit the graves. The village chief handed him a jade pendant, instructing the original host to take it to a certain location and bury it properly. The original host didn’t understand why, but out of respect for the elderly—since the village chief was already in his eighties—he agreed to the request, treating it as the old man’s final wish.

However, that very night, while washing up, the original host saw a handsome but unfamiliar man in the mirror. Startled at first, he soon found that the man was gentle in demeanor and introduced himself as “Jade Ghost.” Jade Ghost claimed to be a passerby who had met an untimely death a hundred years ago and had been imprisoned inside the jade pendant by a passing Taoist master. He insisted he had no malicious intent and understood that the original host was planning to bury him. He had no objections to that; he was just lonely after a hundred years of solitude and wanted someone to talk to.

Despite being a ghost, Jade Ghost was exceptionally handsome. Despite his tragic past, he was gentle and considerate. The original host, who had grown up alone and starved for affection, couldn’t resist this kind of charm. He quickly fell in love and, under Jade Ghost’s persuasion, shattered the jade pendant, setting him free. The original host naïvely believed Jade Ghost’s words that he had fallen in love with him and that humans and ghosts could stay together forever. But he never imagined that from that moment on, he would be entangled with Jade Ghost.

Jade Ghost’s true intention was to possess his body and return to life. To achieve this, he needed to weaken the original host’s Yang energy and Three Fires. Thus, he tormented him daily, scaring him over five hundred times a day, gradually depleting his Yang energy, making his mind foggy, and rendering him unable to even leave his apartment. That rental unit became a tightening noose around his neck. The window boards he had nailed shut to protect Jade Ghost from sunlight became his self-imposed death trap.

Finally, today, the original host was scared to death, literally. The blood on the floor came from him collapsing and hitting his head. After that, Lin Yuetian arrived in this world.

“So why did you just walk out of there completely fine?” The system had finally recovered from the shock and entered the Q&A session with Lin Yuetian.

The porridge was served quickly. Lin Yuetian took a spoon, stirred the porridge, scooped up a spoonful, and gently blew on it before slowly taking a sip. The warmth spread through the original host’s empty stomach, bringing a comforting sensation.

As he ate, he answered the system in his mind: “At the start, I was inside the room, and a kitchen knife almost hit me. That already indicated that Jade Ghost was inside the apartment from the beginning, not trying to enter from the outside. When I first tried to open the door and failed, I tried again, and that’s when the eerie changes on the door appeared. It all happened too quickly, too conveniently—just in time to make me give up on leaving. When something seems off, there’s usually a hidden reason. Plus, those anomalies were enough to confirm that ghosts exist in this world. Generally speaking, ghosts fear sunlight, right? The original host had all the windows nailed shut. From a human perspective, that’s eerie, but to a ghost, it’s an ideal dwelling place. So I figured that the entity causing trouble was more likely inside, where it was safe, rather than outside. My guess was that Jade Ghost didn’t have enough power to keep the door shut for too long, so he created the illusion that there was a ghost outside, trying to make me run away from my only escape route.”

“…Why did you accept the existence of ghosts so quickly?” The system was bewildered.

“I’m a top professional,” Lin Yuetian said humbly. “You get it right?, I’ve got a strong overall skillset.”
