Dimensional Landlord C66

“A Transit Pass!”
“A new Transit Pass!”
“That’s right, it’s been so long since we pulled a Transit Pass. Everything we got before was something else,” Bai Xi said, looking at the Transit Pass in Bai Miao’s hand with great excitement. “Miao Miao, let’s quickly see what kind of New Plane is on the other side of this pass.”
Bai Miao nodded immediately. Habitually, she brought the Transit Pass to her lips and called out, “Transit.”
It was the middle of the night, and the island was already shrouded in darkness. Inside the house, only candlelight flickered. After the transit was confirmed, the scene before their eyes remained pitch black, as if the candlelight had simply been extinguished.
“Where are we now?”
“We should be in the New Plane, but I can’t tell what kind of place it is,” Bai Miao whispered, rummaging through her bag. “Second Sister, cover for me. I’m taking out a small flashlight.”
“Okay,” Bai Xi replied, spreading her hands in front of Bai Miao. If any trouble arose once the flashlight was turned on, she could react immediately to avoid any sudden accidents.
It wasn’t until a light shone from behind them that they could see their surroundings clearly.
What lay before them was not open ground, nor a forest or grassland, nor a house. Instead, it looked like a giant box. They were standing in the middle of this box. Even with their enhanced vision, everything inside and outside the box appeared pitch black to the naked eye.
“It feels a bit like wood, but not quite. Maybe it’s a new type of material.” Bai Xi touched the edge of the box. The sound it made when she tapped it lightly wasn’t very heavy, ruling out metal.
“Can it be upgraded?” Bai Miao took out an Upgrade Card, pressed it against the side of the box, and shouted, “Upgrade.”
Sure enough, a prompt appeared stating that an upgrade was in progress.
The fact that it could be upgraded directly meant there were enough upgrade materials within the edges of this box.
Over the past few years, the Shell check-ins still provided a batch of Upgrade Cards every month. Aside from those used on the Modern Plane, the rest were mainly used for buildings on the Forest Plane and the Magic Plane.
But even so, quite a few Upgrade Cards remained.
These Upgrade Cards were stored separately, and Bai Miao always carried some on her person just for special situations like this.
As the Upgrade Cards were used one after another, the area of the space grew larger and larger.
Bai Miao left for a moment and returned with an Energy Storage Device and light bulbs. During the next use, she integrated these two items into the upgrade range. When the upgrade succeeded, light finally appeared overhead.
At the same time, Bai Xi opened the panel and saw the New Plane appearing on it, along with the range of “tenants” for this plane.
Every upgrade Bai Miao performed added a small space. The area of each space wasn’t very large and couldn’t compare to the houses on the Modern Plane, but precisely because of these small spaces, every single one could be rented out as a room.
“This plane doesn’t look very good. People can only live in boxes like this. It’s even worse than our era.”
“Yeah, back home we needed to prepare wood for upgrades, but here nothing is needed,” Bai Miao said, looking at the images on the panel. “They’re all just empty little boxes.”
“Should we rent them out?”
“Let’s rent them. Having so many rooms is useless to us.” Bai Miao raised her hand, filtering out suitable candidates for rental, and issued Room Cards through the panel.
…
“Whew…”
“It’s no use. We can’t outrun them. They’ll catch up soon.”
“Even if we can’t outrun them, we have to try. If we run, there’s still a chance to escape. If we don’t, it’s certain death. If you want to die, then stay here.”
“No, I don’t want to die. I can’t die.”
As they spoke, the people who were already exhausted to the point of collapse forced themselves to stand up.
Just then, a glowing card appeared in front of them.
“What is this?”
“A Room Card? Why would a Room Card suddenly appear in front of us?”
“Regardless of the reason, the fact that a Room Card could appear out of nowhere means it’s definitely extraordinary. I want to go this way. Are you coming?”
“Yes!”
Following the guidance of the Room Card, they quickly found the direction it pointed to. It was a place constructed of small cubicles. It didn’t look particularly strange, but when they approached, even after swiping the Room Card, it still indicated that a room fee needed to be submitted.
“Why mention this only now?”
“Exactly! Why only say a room fee is needed now? We’ve already walked all the way here.”
“No, this might be a good opportunity.” One of them spoke up, taking an item from their backpack and placing it behind the glowing circle displaying the words “Room Fee.” The item vanished before their eyes in an instant.
“This…”
“Do you see? Since the Room Card could appear before us so suddenly, this place must be extraordinary. It can swallow our room fee, but it can also protect us. As long as we have a hidden place to hide, we can survive.” The person turned to look at those beside him. “You guys take your things out too. Let’s pool them together and move in here first.”
The others were still a bit skeptical, but since they were already there, leaving was even more inappropriate.
Rather than taking more risks, it was better to stay and try.
With that thought, they immediately took the items from their bags one by one. After gathering enough for the room fee, they opened the door and walked in.
There was nothing else in the room except for a light overhead. However, after closing the main door, the outline of another door appeared on the far side. After using a small amount of resources to open it, they discovered a toilet and a bathroom inside.
“It’s actually hot water! How can a dump like this have such a good washing environment?”
“Don’t worry about how or why. I haven’t bathed in ages. I’m going first.”
“Does this require resources every time we enter, or can we come and go as we please after paying once?”
“It’s calculated by time. Half an hour per session. In that case, we can take turns bathing. You guys be quick. I haven’t had a hot bath in a long time either.”
“I wonder if we can make hot food here. Everything we prepared is raw.”
“I don’t know. We’ll check after the bath.”
…
“Hot food? Should we prepare some?”
“Can we burn wood in this room?” Bai Miao touched the wall. “Will it set the room on fire?”
“I’m not sure. Was this material mentioned in the books?” Bai Xi asked.
Bai Miao shook her head. “There was nothing exactly like this material in the books from the Modern Plane. There were some similar materials, but definitely not this.”
As she spoke, she rummaged through the resources she had just received, pulling out a large piece of meat and bringing it to her nose to sniff.
“Does it smell strange?” Bai Xi asked. “Will it be like the stuff from the Magic Plane that doesn’t taste good when cooked?”
Bai Miao handed it to her to smell.
Bai Xi sniffed it carefully. “It doesn’t have a particularly strange smell, but the look of this meat isn’t like pork, nor is it like chicken or duck.”
Bai Miao looked at her, waiting for her to decide.
Bai Xi thought for a moment and finally said, “How about this? We’ll take this meat to the Forest Plane, have someone cook it, and then try feeding it to the chickens and ducks. If they’re fine after eating it and the taste isn’t weird, we’ll trade it back to the people of this plane to eat. If everything is fine, we can have them prepare more of this meat as resources in the future. That way, our island won’t be so short on meat.”
The meat situation on the island over the past few years wasn’t as scarce as it had been in the beginning. However, their resources weren’t abundant. If they wanted to exchange for things from other countries, they had to sell some of the island’s own products, such as chicken, duck, and pork. Comparatively, because rabbit meat didn’t make people feel very full, its sales were nowhere near as good as chicken, duck, or pork.
But they didn’t focus entirely on raising animals on the island. The Forest Plane had a vast amount of space, and they kept a large number of animals there as well, almost all of which were bred from wild stock.
Since they didn’t have enough time to manage everything themselves, they had specifically sent a group of women in poor health to the Forest Plane. This allowed the women to recover their strength while tending to the animals and growing some vegetables on the side.
These women didn’t know exactly where they were. Because they were surrounded by dense forest, they didn’t dare to wander off, staying within a small designated area. The three sisters visited occasionally, primarily to collect supplies.
To these women, such a life was fulfilling and happy. After a few years, while they weren’t exactly plump, their health was significantly better than when they first arrived.
Bai Xi planned to let these women handle the cooking.
“It’s just that traveling back and forth every time isn’t very convenient. Even though we don’t mind the hard work, moving back and forth like this takes up a lot of time,” Bai Xi said to Bai Miao. “If only we were like Shell and could transport items directly. Then they could just send the prepared dishes to us, and we wouldn’t have to keep running back and forth.”
“We don’t have to run,” Bai Miao said, pulling out a blanket. “Second Sister, let’s take the Flying Carpet.”
“Will that work?” Bai Xi hesitated. “I’m not very good at using it yet. Besides, wouldn’t it be bad if they saw us arriving on a Flying Carpet?”
“Why would it be bad if they saw?” Bai Miao tilted her head. “They don’t understand magic and don’t know about Flying Carpets. It’s just like how we used to be. Back then, even if we had known about Flying Carpets, we wouldn’t have dared to do anything, right?”
“That’s true. Not only would we not dare to do anything, we’d actually be quite scared,” Bai Xi recalled her feelings when she first saw a Flying Carpet. She had thought those people were incredibly powerful and hadn’t dared to do anything out of line. “But we still aren’t very skilled. Miao Miao, do you know how to use it?”
Bai Miao nodded. “I’ve learned how.”
Bai Xi trusted Bai Miao completely and immediately smiled. “Alright, then I’ll ride on your Flying Carpet.”
As they spoke, the tenants began to arrive one after another. Most of them were skeptical when they saw the plain, humble houses, until they managed to get a solid, full night’s sleep inside the rooms.
Through the conversations that took place that night, Bai Miao and Bai Xi also learned about the situation of this plane.
It was somewhat similar to the Magic Plane in that they suffered from attacks by giant beasts. However, the giant beasts here could be killed by human strength alone, and their meat was edible. This was unlike the Magic Plane, where any food containing Magic Elements had a strange, off-putting taste.
If they could supplement their supplies with the meat from the beasts here, not only would the fishermen on the island have enough meat to eat, but there would even be a large surplus to sell. This would greatly increase the amount of gold stored on the island.
Before that, however, Bai Xi left the island to search for the group of people who had launched the sudden attack the previous day.
