by MarineTLChapter 12: Juanjuan Got Into a Fight
Bai Family Household
With Juanjuan gone, the house was deathly silent.
Jiang Dai wandered around their small, dilapidated yard, carefully studying their disastrous starting point on this little map of life and taking stock of their meager resources.
And then she realized…
This family was exceptionally poor.
Bai Tian sat alone on a small stool in the yard, trying to figure out a future for their family of six.
The family’s land had been sold last year by the Original Host.
Now… they were truly on the brink of having nothing to eat.
To be honest, even if the land were still there, he wasn’t sure he could farm it well.
He needed to think carefully about how to make their fortune.
Bai Yunqi stood in the doorway, watching his mother rummage through their belongings and his father sitting there spacing out, sighing from time to time.
He suddenly felt lost. These so-called parents were quite different from those in his memories.
Bai Yunqi also sighed. He still couldn’t sense any spiritual energy at all.
He turned to look at his cheap younger brother, Da Mao, who was lying lifelessly on the bed.
“Are you still feeling unwell?” he asked.
A few seconds later, Da Mao, still lying in bed, finally spoke: “I’m alright.”
In truth, Da Mao was not alright.
Perhaps because the pain of dying had been too intense, he could still feel an ache in his chest where his heart was. He didn’t know if it was an illusion or real.
He was sorting through the chaotic memories in his mind while also thinking about what to do in the future.
What he really wanted right now was to return to the Capital City as soon as possible, to go back to the General’s Manor, and to tell his family that he wasn’t actually dead.
He was still alive. But he had no idea how far this place was from the Capital City.
Besides, with this six-year-old child’s body, he probably wouldn’t be able to make it to the Capital City anytime soon.
While each member of the family was lost in their own thoughts, a child came running to the entrance of the Bai Family home.
The child peeked in, looking at Bai Tian sitting blankly in the yard, and wiped his runny nose with his sleeve.
“Hey! Your Juanjuan and Er Mao got into a fight!”
As soon as the words left the child’s mouth, he saw that drunkard Bai Tian suddenly stand up.
Bai Tian: “What did you say?!”
“What’d I say? Your Juanjuan and Er Mao got into a fight! Right at the edge of the fields! Near Aunt Juan’s plot!”
After saying this, the child swiftly ran off to the neighboring Wang Family’s house.
Wang Dachui had also gotten into a fight—he had to hurry and tell the Wang Family.
“Auntie! Dachui got into a fight because of Juanjuan!”
The messenger child had a loud voice. He sprinted to Dachui’s doorstep and started shouting at the top of his lungs.
He managed to summon Dachui’s mother right away.
Then, a series of clattering noises could be heard from the Wang Family’s side as they scrambled to get ready.
Dachui’s Mother and Old Lady Wang grabbed rolling pins and hurried after the child, striding briskly toward the fields.
“What’s going on?”
Jiang Dai had been tinkering with things in the side room. The noise inside was quite loud, so she could only faintly hear someone shouting outside about a fight.
“Juanjuan and Er Mao got into a fight with someone!”
Bai Tian immediately headed for the door, his steps urgent.
But he saw a figure moving even faster than him—it was Jiang Dai.
Jiang Dai was lucky. During the ox-cart accident, her legs hadn’t been seriously injured, so she could run remarkably fast.
Bai Tian, whose legs were temporarily injured, watched his wife sprinting after Old Lady Wang and the others. He raised his hand weakly.
But in the end, he lowered it without calling out, “Wait for me.”
Seeing both his parents leave, Bai Yunqi, who had been standing by the window inside the room, also got up.
He looked at his brother lying in bed. “I’m going out to take a look too. Will you be alright lying here by yourself?”
After all, he, Bai Yunqi, had once been a cultivator who dominated a region—even if it was in the past.
Now, his only normal younger sister was being bullied. It was only right that he go and see.
What surprised him, though, was that his brother, who had been lying in bed, slowly sat up.
“I’m coming too.”
