Chapter 13: The Scumbag CEO’s Pursuit (Part 4)

Strangely, Lu Wanrong’s heart settled as she heard the foxy vixen’s coy voice on the phone, chaos in her thoughts being restored.

This was the Fu Yu she remembered: wealthy and amorous, with a tenderness extended to everyone, considerate to all, carrying a luxurious beauty, never lacking female companions wherever she went.

Yu Liuxue felt dizzy for a moment, but she steadied herself, clutching her phone and said desperately, “Sorry, I don’t know you.”

After hanging up, Yu Liuxue decisively switched off her phone. Lu Wanrong’s gaze lingered on the dark screen, her expression calm. Yu Liuxue approached Lu Wanrong, tilting her head slightly, the stray strands of her hair draped over her expensive suit. “Wanrong, come home with me.”

Lu Wanrong’s lips moved slightly, feeling an internal resistance. What good could come from going back to that cold place? It would only remind her of foolishly waiting by the door and window in despair. She took a half-step back and politely said, “I’m sorry, Miss Fu, but I have to visit my mother in the hospital tonight. I don’t have the time.”

A few days ago, Lu Wanrong’s mother, Zhang Guilan, suddenly fainted. Lu Wanrong only found out from a coworker that her mother had been secretly working to earn money again. Zhang Guilan’s health had been poor since an accident years ago. Recently, overworking worsened her condition, leading her to spend thousands on hospital fees daily. Later, it was discovered she had a benign brain tumor, which needed timely surgery.

Lu Wanrong told Yu Liuxue goodbye, “I need to go now.”

    “I’ll take you.”

Yu Liuxue blocked Lu Wanrong, her attitude firm, “If you don’t let me drive you, I won’t let you go.”

Today, this rogue act is happening whether or not you like it!

Lu Wanrong felt complicated as she raised her head, her clear eyes fixed on Yu Liuxue. It seemed like she was meeting Fu Yu for the first time. Lu Wanrong’s lips curled slightly, “Why bother, Miss Fu? You mentioned being busy, so I waited quietly until you had time to discuss the divorce. Please respect me now.”

This is nonsense; you just want to clear up our relationship, Yu Liuxue thought wordlessly. Yu Liuxue gazed seriously into Lu Wanrong’s eyes. “Suppose I don’t respect that?”

What if she doesn’t? Lu Wanrong’s heart faltered. Young Fu Yu always did as she pleased. If pushed too far, they might never get divorced.

Trying to stay composed, Lu Wanrong took a step back, “Then I’ll trouble you this evening, Miss Fu.”

Yu Liuxue tossed her car keys, “Is your mom’s condition serious? Should I help? Maybe I can bring her to the city’s best hospital with the best doctors? You should have a check-up too; you work hard, eat little, and might faint from low blood sugar one day.”

“Nothing serious, no need to trouble you.”

Yu Liuxue pressed the elevator button. Lu Wanrong kept her hands in her coat pockets, her head lowered, eyeing the reflective marble flooring with a bitter smile. In her past life, she had fainted from low blood sugar, but calling Fu Yu had been futile as she was vacationing abroad. Lying on the hospital bed, receiving intravenous therapy, the medicine was cold, her limbs were cold, but nothing could match the chill she felt hearing the woman’s sweet voice on the phone.

Lu Wanrong thought that maybe heaven pitied her miserable past life, giving her another chance.

Once in the car, a light fragrance of peonies filled the air—her once-favorite scent. In ancient times, peonies symbolized love, their meaning deeply tied to her longing and commitment. Deep in thought, she felt a shadow lean closer, enveloped by the sophisticated sweetness of Yu Liuxue’s perfume replacing the peony’s fragrance.

Startled, Lu Wanrong pressed herself against the car door, her hand gripping the handle. “Fu Yu, what are you doing?”

Yu Liuxue blinked innocently, “I’m buckling your seatbelt.”

“I called your name several times, but you didn’t respond.” Yu Liuxue’s arm stretched across her, swiftly buckling the seatbelt before sitting back to start the car. “Which hospital is your mother in?”

“The First People’s Hospital.” Lu Wanrong’s heart thudded, her cheeks warming, reminiscent of her first encounter with Fu Yu. She was flooded with emotion, unable to meet Fu Yu’s eyes.

Though the drive to the hospital only took ten minutes, it felt like a lifetime to Lu Wanrong. Upon reaching there, she eagerly opened the door even before the car stopped, her heels clicking sharply on the pavement. She called back, “You should head back, Miss Fu. Thank you for today.”

Yu Liuxue rolled down the window, her voice laced with amusement, “I hope for a proper thank you.”

Lu Wanrong hesitated briefly, then quickened her steps. Yu Liuxue parked the car, sought directions, and found Zhang Guilan’s room, entering just as Lu Wanrong fed her mother medicine.

Zhang Guilan, having taken a sip, lamented, “Wanrong, maybe I should go home. It’s so expensive here, and I’m not seriously ill, wasting money like this.”

Lu Wanrong shook her head, “Mom, your health is the priority. I’ll take you out after the surgery, okay?”

Zhang Guilan persisted, “Can’t I just come back for the surgery day? It’s such a waste of money that could help your sister.”

Lu Wanrong’s expression turned colder as she set down the bowl. “Mom, Qianqian is an adult. She should learn to support herself. I managed when I was her age, didn’t I?”

“But Qianqian isn’t like you; you’ve always been the mature one, excelling academically, never worrying me. But Qianqian’s always struggled, rebellious, not even finishing school properly. Finding a decent job would be tough. You’re her sister, holding a respectable job, married to a wealthy person. Can’t you help her more? Money I earned working so hard paid for your education. Is this how your teachers taught you?”

    Silence filled the room.

“Mom.” Yu Liuxue entered, drawing both women’s attention. Lu Wanrong looked furious while Zhang Guilan brightened, waving her over. “Xiaoyu’s come! Come over.”

Holding a basket of fruit, Yu Liuxue stepped in. “Mom, I rushed here with Wanrong and didn’t get you a proper gift.”

Zhang Guilan beamed, accepting the fruit. “What are you saying? Your thoughtfulness is more than enough for me.”

Yu Liuxue chuckled, seating herself beside Lu Wanrong. Setting down the fruit, Zhang Guilan got serious. “Xiaoyu, you arrived at just the right moment. I was telling Wanrong…”

“Mom,” Lu Wanrong drawled, her annoyance showing. Yu Liuxue softly soothed Lu Wanrong’s back, causing her to stiffen. The unfamiliar intimacy felt intrusive, and Lu Wanrong instinctively edged away from Yu Liuxue.

Lowering her hand, Yu Liuxue gracefully said, “I overheard talk about Qianqian? Does she need my help?”

“Qianqian’s a constant worry, skipping school, having no decent job; supporting herself later will be hard.”

“Don’t stress, Mom. I’ll secure Qianqian a good job.”

With unease relieved, Zhang Guilan softened. Holding Lu Wanrong’s hand, she spoke warmly. “Wanrong, Xiaoyu’s kind and treats you well. You should put aside your little temper and live happily together, understand?”

“Meeting someone as good as Xiaoyu is your fortune, a blessing from the ancestors!”

Lu Wanrong tightly pursed her lips, wishing away such blessings and guardianship.

Taking the opportunity, Yu Liuxue tugged Lu Wanrong up. “Mom, stay here and rest. Money isn’t an issue. Wanrong always worries about your health. Wanrong came in late from work and socializing, she’s tired. Let me take her home to rest.”

Zhang Guilan agreed. Outside the room, Lu Wanrong halted with her bag, “You don’t have to do this.”

Heading to the garage, Yu Liuxue ignored her words, “We going to my place?”

    “My place,” Lu Wanrong replied.

    “Sure.”

Upon hearing the keys, Lu Qian rushed to unlock the door. Seeing Lu Wanrong walk in, she immediately asked, “Sis, what about that Lin Hong? Uncle Lin is only thirty-seven, handsome and wealthy, our city’s richest man. Most importantly, he’s smitten with you… Fu Yu? What are you doing here?!”

Seeing Yu Liuxue, Lu Qian’s demeanor changed, blocking her disdainfully. “My sister has nothing to do with you now.”

Oh, so you were the one who got Lin Hong involved today.

Leaning against the door, Yu Liuxue watched her nonchalantly. “Nothing to do? We’re not divorced. You should still call me sister-in-law.”

“Pfft.” Lu Qian looked at Lu Wanrong, anxiously asking, “Sis, what about Uncle Lin…”

    “How do you know Lin?”

“I…well…it’s…because…” Sweat beaded on Lu Qian’s forehead, glancing at Yu Liuxue, brilliantly exclaiming, “It’s because of her, from reading Fu Yu’s gossip online!”

“A blogger rumored to be involved with Fu Yu is Uncle Lin’s distant niece!”

“Sis, did you know? Right after you married she was photographed in a bar with women the very next day. If you don’t believe, I’ll pull up the news. Sis, knowing she’s such a flirt, why haven’t you divorced her yet?”

Rummaging for her phone, a push notification popped up on the screen: “Fu Yu photographed holding hands with a mysterious young woman at a jewelry store. Suspected affair exposed. Click for more…”

Lu Qian shouted, pointing at Yu Liuxue, “See, sis! There’s the proof! She’s cheating!”

    Yu Liuxue: “…?!”

You little brat—to the point even the strictest critic would’ve given you a piece of their mind!
