Farm System C05
by MarineTLChapter Five
“Heart of the Farm has an activation limit of ten thousand mu…” Qin Yun explained the [System Prompt].
Though surprised, Liu Wensheng opened the Fengshan map. After carefully filtering through options, they chose a location on the northern side of Fengshan. It was twenty kilometers from the Fengshan Mountain Range, situated at the boundary between the shallow and deep uninhabited zones. The geography was quiet, yet not entirely cut off from the world.
Once the location was decided, they headed straight for the coordinates. Fifteen minutes later, the two jeeps came to a stop again.
Qin Yun got out and opened the system interface.
“Current Coordinates: E97°09′, N39°35′. Area: 10,000 mu. Activate Heart of the Farm?”
The activation option had returned to normal. Qin Yun looked toward Liu Wensheng and the others. Liu Wensheng signaled the soldiers to turn on the recording equipment.
Qin Yun took a deep breath and selected: [Activate].
….
“Congratulations to the host on activating Heart of the Farm.
Mission Reward: Primary Selection Pack X2.
Mission Grade: A-level.
A-level Reward: Random Seed X1.”
….
The system refreshed again in front of him.
“How is it?” Liu Wensheng asked solemnly. Whether it was an illusion or not, the moment Qin Yun activated the system, he felt a warm breeze brush by, like willows from the rivers of Longnan caressing his ears.
“Activation successful. Now it’s time for the rewards,” Qin Yun said, looking at the Mission Reward. In his past life, he only had two Primary Selection Packs. Now there was a mission rating and a reward based on that rating. Qin Yun guessed it had to do with the size of the land.
Giant tomato seeds, a farm go-kart, a spring for plant growth…
Over the next three minutes, Qin Yun introduced the contents of the mission selection pack to Liu Wensheng and the others. They stared wide-eyed at each other. From their perspective, Qin Yun was merely narrating rewards out of thin air. Without the previous setup, it would have seemed like some modern-day spirit medium act…
In the middle of this awkward silence, Qin Yun suddenly stopped.
“What is it?” Liu Wensheng asked, conflicted. He was genuinely worried that Qin Yun might just be a fraud.
“There’s a skill selection pack.”
“Hm?”
“Interface Sharing,” Qin Yun said as he stared at the reward in front of him.
[Interface Sharing]: Allows the host to share the Mission Interface, so non-participants can view it. (Grade D, chicken-rib tier option, limited to three uses per day.)
There were fifty options in the system’s selection pack, and this was one of them.
Qin Yun explained the [Interface Sharing] function to Liu Wensheng.
“Choose it!” Liu Wensheng decided decisively after listening. As a commander in a special military zone, he held significant authority. If [Interface Sharing] really worked, it would solve the problem of asymmetric information.
Qin Yun understood this as well and directly clicked: [Confirm].
“Congratulations to the host on acquiring the chicken-rib grade skill: [Interface Sharing].”
The interface refreshed, and a [Share] icon appeared in the upper right corner. Without hesitation, Qin Yun clicked: [Share].
…
Liu Wensheng was fifty-three years old this year. He had served in grassroots units early on and was promoted step by step to commander of a special military zone. He had seen countless storms, and even in reporting the Farm System, it was based only on surveillance footage and the material of a hoe. He still had reservations about the Farm System.
He had imagined the Farm System might be real, even considered how he would react to supernatural phenomena. But he never thought the farm interface would just appear in front of him, so suddenly, without any warning or mental preparation…
“This is the Farm System?”
The moment Qin Yun clicked to share the interface, not only Liu Wensheng but also Zhou Yuanheng and the recording soldiers were stunned. In front of them was a 2×2 virtual interface. The screen had a grass-green tone, showing the host’s name, current mission, system inventory, and other options. The overall layout resembled a farming MMO game.
In the bottom-right corner was a farm sandbox—a 1×1 3D model featuring mountains, rivers, and in the center, eight red dots surrounded by a green zone. The green matched the area Qin Yun had selected, and beyond it, everything turned a hazy gray.
Liu Wensheng moved a step, and one of the red dots followed.
“Incredible.” He swiped his right hand across the panel’s center. In his long life, it was the first time he had encountered such a fantastical scene.
They turned to the System Panel.
Current Mission: None.
System Inventory: Primary Selection Pack X1, Random Seed X1.
Personal Skill: Interface Sharing.
System Points: 0
…
Now that one Primary Selection Pack had been used, one remained along with a random seed.
Liu Wensheng instructed the soldiers to film. After a thorough inspection, he saluted Qin Yun. “Comrade Qin Yun, due to the current special circumstances, I need to report this to the nation once more. Please consider carefully before using anything from your inventory.”
With the mission panel now visible, every step was critical. He had to report it again.
Qin Yun returned the salute. “I will obey the nation’s command.”
At 3 a.m., the group arrived at a nearby infantry camp. Located on the south side of National Highway 305, the camp housed about five hundred troops. Ten li to the east was Lushui Town. Both the camp and Lushui were among the rare populated spots in the uninhabited region.
Qin Yun was assigned to a red brick house. Inside was a bunk bed with military green bedding, a hot water bottle, and simple but tidy furnishings with all necessary supplies. After riding a helicopter and spending a night in the wilderness, everything was silent. Qin Yun washed up quickly and fell asleep.
…
“This is the system activation screen. Here are the Primary Selection Pack and the Random Seed. These are the fifty options in the Primary Selection Pack…” While Qin Yun slept, Liu Wensheng sorted the recording footage and reported it to the upper ranks of Longxia.
Now that the Farm System had been verified, Longxia would face more challenges: the probability of a food crisis, other planes beyond Shuilan Star, the technical principles of the Farm System… Every one of these was revolutionary.
Over the next three days, Longxia’s top leaders thoroughly discussed the Farm System.
Qin Yun didn’t stay idle. First, he toured the infantry camp, then borrowed an off-road vehicle to explore Lushui Town out of curiosity.
Located east of the camp, Lushui Town was small, with only a few noodle shops, mini-marts, and clothing stores… Qin Yun finished exploring in less than half an hour.
From chatting with a noodle shop owner, he learned Lushui used to have a coal mine employing over 8,000 people at its peak. The town formed around the mine. But with the mine exhausted and shut down ten years ago, most businesses had left. Only the infantry camp and passing highway traffic kept the town alive. Qin Yun spent the whole day there and returned to the camp at night.
“Comrade Qin Yun.” As soon as he returned, he saw Liu Wensheng waiting at the door.
“Commander Liu.” Qin Yun perked up.
Half an hour later, Qin Yun and Liu Wensheng were seated in a conference room. Liu Wensheng handed over a document: the “Fengshan Farm Project Proposal.”
The Farm System was an unknown entity, one that had already surpassed the technological capabilities of present-day Shuilan. A good blade only proves its worth through use. After careful consideration, Longxia decided to implement the【Fengshan Farm Project】.
The so-called【Fengshan Farm Project】was centered around the System Task, with Liu Wensheng responsible for oversight. If the Farm System proved beneficial to Longxia and Shuilan Star, support would continue. If it did not, the project would be terminated.
The state could research the system, but everything had to be people-centered, with national and Shuilan interests as the foundation. If the Farm System was of no benefit to Shuilan, no matter how advanced it appeared, the mission must cease, and Qin Yun would be required to sign a waiver relinquishing the system.
“Comrade Qin Yun, please consider this seriously,” Liu Wensheng said solemnly. As the project leader, he had to report each step with precision, backed by a comprehensive analytical team. Yet the greater the power, the heavier the responsibility—moments of pressure like this were rare even for him.
Qin Yun read through the【Project Proposal】and signed without hesitation.
At that moment, both Qin Yun and Liu Wensheng felt the weight of the responsibility on their shoulders.
Liu Wensheng carefully put away the document. Watching his movements, Qin Yun hesitated and then asked, “About the food crisis?”
It was now July 20. According to his past life’s timeline, a massive storm would strike Ha’erma in Mali this coming February, causing severe damage. In March, the Harma Storm would spread from Mali across the globe, bringing torrential rains and significant soil acidification. In truth, global food prices would already begin to rise modestly with Mali’s disaster, leading to a full-blown crisis by July.
“It’s already been reported to the state, and the national team is taking it seriously,” Liu Wensheng replied after a moment of thought. Though the food crisis had yet to be confirmed, the national team had dispatched meteorological experts to study sea temperatures in the Ha’erma region. Whether or not a food crisis occurred, this served as a warning.
After chatting for a while, the two shifted their focus to the Fengshan Farm.
Fengshan Farm lay in a remote no-man’s-land, far from any village or shop. Although the new round of missions had not yet been issued, one critical issue had to be considered: infrastructure for Fengshan Farm.
