    Daily Pampering the Beauty

    — Su Zaizai Fairy’s Diary

    Su Zaizai was rejected.

    She was actually rejected.

Someone who had just been saying, “Your friend is really rich,” actually rejected her.

Someone who admitted to being her friend couldn’t even agree to this small request of hers.

Su Zaizai found it hard to accept.

She stared at Zhang Lurang’s back for a while before walking sorrowfully back to the classroom.

There weren’t many people inside, and it was very quiet.

Some were hunched over doing homework, while others had their heads lowered playing on their phones.

Su Zaizai slowly walked over, her movements a bit unsteady.

But no one seemed to notice that anything was wrong with her.

Once she reached her seat, she finally let out a sigh of relief.

She took out her phone from her pocket and opened her chat with Zhang Lurang.

The last message displayed was a simple “Mm” from him.

    Su Zaizai was inexplicably furious.

He always just responded with “Mm” all the time, unwilling to say even one more word.

But the moment something important came up, it was a decisive—

    “Not coming.”

Su Zaizai couldn’t suppress her impulse anymore.

Her fingers flew across the keyboard, forcefully typing three words.

    —— Zhang Lurang.

    There was no immediate reply.

Su Zaizai felt it was time for her to explode a little.

Otherwise, even if she ended up with the great beauty in the future, she would still be completely overpowered by him.

After thinking for a moment, she continued typing.

—— I swear, if I ever look for you again, I was raised on dog shit.

    Message sent successfully.

Immediately, a reply came from the other side:

    ……

His response made Su Zaizai feel as if she could sense his presence through the screen.

    …Instant regret.

Meanwhile, Zhang Lurang hesitated over how to reply.

    She seemed really angry…

Before he could think it through, another message came in.

    Su Zaizai: I’m hungry.

Zhang Lurang paused, unable to understand how her emotions shifted so quickly.

But he still pressed his lips together and typed in the chat:

What do you want to eat?

Before he could send it, his phone vibrated again.

Su Zaizai: Do you have any dog shit?

    Zhang Lurang: “……”

He really didn’t understand what went on in Su Zaizai’s head every day.

Zhang Lurang deleted the words he had just typed one by one.

Then, seriously, he typed out six words.

    —— No. Eat properly.

    Su Zaizai: “……”

    The Great Beauty Isn’t Coming

Since Zhang Lurang wasn’t coming, Su Zaizai had no choice but to drag her battered and bruised self out of the classroom.

    She had no other option.

If the mountain won’t come to me, then I’ll go to the mountain.

Chasing a man required this kind of determination.

Behind her, Jiang Jia glanced up at her, shook her head, and sighed, “Strong will despite physical disabilities.”

Su Zaizai walked forward slowly and passed by the office.

Just as she was about to turn and go down the stairs, she immediately noticed Zhang Lurang walking up from below.

    Zhang Lurang saw her too.

His steps paused for a moment before he quickly resumed walking upward.

Su Zaizai stopped in her tracks, a big smile spreading across her face.

“Lurang, what are you doing on the fifth floor?” she asked knowingly.

Zhang Lurang glanced at her, then replied, “Looking for the homeroom teacher.”

Su Zaizai shamelessly followed up, “Since when did I change my name to ‘homeroom teacher’?”

    Zhang Lurang: “……”

“Besides, Teacher Chen isn’t here. She doesn’t have duty on weekends.”

Hearing this, Zhang Lurang stopped in his tracks.

“Mm,” he said, then turned to leave.

Su Zaizai immediately bounced after him.

Hearing the commotion behind him, Zhang Lurang couldn’t help but turn around.

    “Su Zaizai.”

    Su Zaizai instinctively stopped. “Huh?”

He was silent for a moment before saying, “I’ll come over.”

Before she could react, he added, “At this time.”

Then, he sighed and added, “Don’t run around.”

Su Zaizai obediently responded with an “Oh.”

    She wanted to ask.

Did you only say that after eating my jelly?

    No, that couldn’t be it.

Jelly didn’t have that much power.

    She wanted to know.

Why did you only say three sentences—yet it was more effective than me eating a hundred jelly cups?

Monday Afternoon – Midterm Results Released

When Su Zaizai returned to the classroom from the dorm, she only took a quick glance at the rankings.

She ranked 825th in the grade, out of approximately 1,500 students.

But excluding science subjects, her total score was still decent.

    Su Zaizai was quite satisfied.

During the first evening self-study session, Su Zaizai immediately ran out of the classroom.

She stood by the stairwell, waiting for Zhang Lurang.

Soon, his figure appeared in her line of sight.

Su Zaizai called out cheerfully, “Lurang!”

Zhang Lurang looked up at her and gave a low response.

The two of them walked off to the side.

He seemed to be in a bad mood.

Su Zaizai blinked and asked directly, “Are you upset?”

    “No,” he replied.

    “Did you eat jelly?”

    “……”

    “Did you?”

    “……Mm.”

    “And even that didn’t help?”

Zhang Lurang was silent for a moment before nodding.

“You’re really hard to satisfy,” Su Zaizai scolded him.

    Zhang Lurang: “……”

Su Zaizai hesitated for a second, then said, “Then let me tell you a joke.”

    “……”

Su Zaizai cleared her throat and began.

“Liu Bei’s Dilu horse broke free and ran toward a cliff. Zhang Fei panicked and shouted, ‘Big brother, rein in the horse!'”

At this point, Su Zaizai suddenly paused and made a gesture with her fingers.

“‘Rein’ (勒) as in ‘blackmail’ (勒索).”

Zhang Lurang remained silent, just looking at her.

Su Zaizai, getting to the punchline, laughed as she continued, “Then Liu Bei got angry and yelled back, ‘I’m happily rein-ing your Ma Le Gobi!'” (a play on words that sounds like a Chinese swear word)

    Zhang Lurang remained expressionless.

“Hahaha, I’m dying, this joke always cracks me up,” Su Zaizai laughed.

Not getting a reaction from him, she stopped laughing and asked innocently, “Not funny?”

    He still didn’t say anything.

After a moment, Zhang Lurang finally spoke, his face cold as he reprimanded her: “Su Zaizai, don’t use foul language.”

Su Zaizai, who thought she was brightening his mood, immediately exploded.

“When did I? That was Liu Bei! What does it have to do with me?!”

Out of nowhere, she was labeled as someone who swore.

Wouldn’t that lower her favorability score?! She was not convinced!

She was so angry she looked like she was about to jump up and hit him.

    A few seconds later—

Her expression seemed to amuse Zhang Lurang.

The gloom he had been carrying instantly disappeared.

He let out a low chuckle.

    The bell rang.

At the same time, he softly muttered a single word under his breath.

    “Idiot.”

His voice was filled with laughter.

Zhang Lurang was woken up by his roommate.

His head was still a bit groggy.

He got up, went to the bathroom to wash his face, and prepared to head back to class.

His mind was blank, but for some reason, Su Zaizai’s words suddenly popped into his head.

—— “Remember to check your phone when you get back to the dorm.”

Zhang Lurang turned back to his locker, picked up his phone, and glanced at it.

—— “Those are all from me.”

    A completely random sentence.

    Feeling puzzled, he replied: “What?”

    There was no response.

Zhang Lurang didn’t think much of it, put his phone back, slung his backpack over his shoulder, and walked out of the dorm.

A moment later, he came back.

He took his phone from the locker and put it in his pocket.

Back in the classroom, he found a brown fleece blanket on his chair.

On his desk, there was a thermos bottle and a bag of medicine.

Opening the bag, he found a sticky note attached to one of the medicine boxes.

On it was a single sentence.

    —— “Zai always spoils you.”

    Early November.

Overnight, a cold wind swept in.

The moment Zhang Lurang got out of bed, he felt a scratchy throat.

By the afternoon, he had already started coughing.

After hesitating for a moment, he decided to go back to the dorm and get some sleep in the afternoon.

During the break between classes, he went to Class 9 to find Su Zaizai.

Su Zaizai stepped out of the classroom.

Seeing that he didn’t look well, she asked softly, “Are you sick?”

Zhang Lurang didn’t answer and simply said, “I’m not going to the reading room this afternoon.”

“Oh.” Su Zaizai didn’t ask any further.

Since he had delivered his message, Zhang Lurang turned to leave.

Behind him, Su Zaizai called out to him again, “Sickly Beauty.”

    Zhang Lurang: “…”

He had no desire to turn around.

But it seemed Su Zaizai didn’t need him to.

She quickly added, “Remember to check your phone when you get back to the dorm.”

The first break of Tuesday night self-study.

Su Zaizai had been thinking about this for a long time.

Just ten minutes a day—this was a huge loss for her.

Before, with break time plus the afternoon reading room sessions, she could at least see him for an hour and a half each day.

Now, it was only ten minutes!

Su Zaizai decided to have a talk with him.

After some thought, she asked, “Can I go to the reading room in the afternoon and study with you?”

    “No.” He rejected her immediately.

“But if I don’t go to the reading room in the afternoon, I won’t be able to resist going back to the dorm.”

Zhang Lurang replied casually, “Then go back.”

“Look at how far the dorm is. If I go back and forth, in just a week—”

He turned to look at her.

Su Zaizai had a solemn expression. “Fine, then remember to come collect my corpse.”

    Zhang Lurang: “…”

    A moment of silence.

Zhang Lurang was the first to break. “You’re being dramatic.”

Su Zaizai widened her eyes and accused him, “You think walking a bit isn’t a big deal, but then why do you tell me not to run around?”

    Zhang Lurang: “…”

    Su Zaizai suddenly realized something.

She lowered her head, her expression seeming a little regretful.

“I get it. You’ve already gotten what you wanted from me.”

    “…”

“You used me and now you’re leaving. You’re burning the bridge after crossing the river.”

    “…What?”

Su Zaizai came to a conclusion.

“I gave you all my jelly, so now you don’t need me anymore.”

    Zhang Lurang: “…Stop acting crazy.”

Seeing that she had gone quiet, Zhang Lurang lowered his eyes to look at her and immediately gave in. “Five-thirty.”

Hearing that, Su Zaizai finally spoke again.

    “Lurang.”

    “Mm.”

    “You really spoil me.”

    “…”

“I’ve decided to buy you six more packs of jelly.”

    Zhang Lurang: “…”
