Chapter 41: Anything Is Fine, All Resources From This Plane Are Acceptable

    “We have tenants downstairs too.”

“Only tenants, no landlord. I don’t know who the owner of these houses is, or how they selected us to come here and rent.”

“Regardless of who the landlord is, their identity certainly isn’t simple. Being chosen is our greatest stroke of luck.”

“I think so too. It’s a pity there’s no electricity in this room, but even if it’s just for the working flush toilet, I’m going to stay here forever. Since the cataclysm happened, I haven’t breathed air this fresh in a long time.”

“Tomorrow we’ll go downstairs to gather resources. No matter what, we must get enough materials to earn the right to keep renting.”

    “What is electricity?”

“And what is a flush toilet? A toilet can flush water? How does it flush?”

On the top floor, the three sisters watched the two people speaking with serious expressions, voicing genuine questions.

“Miao Miao, have you heard of these two things?” Bai Xi asked Bai Miao, who always had a good memory. “Has anyone else mentioned them?”

Bai Miao was sitting and reading a book from the Magic Plane. Hearing this, she looked up, thought for a moment, and slid down from her chair. “The flush toilet is that thing.”

Bai Yu and Bai Xi followed behind her into the small room.

“Flush toilet,” Bai Miao said, pressing the button on the side firmly. She pricked up her ears to listen to the sound and pointed at the noisy toilet. “This.”

Bai Yu leaned over to look, opening the lid just in time to see a wave of water rushing down.

Although they didn’t understand how it worked, seeing this scene and connecting it to the name “flush toilet” allowed both Bai Yu and Bai Xi to understand its purpose.

“Eldest Sister, this is for the bathroom,” Bai Xi’s eyes lit up. “Isn’t using the bathroom here very clean? Everything is washed away instantly?”

Bai Yu stepped forward and pressed the button Bai Miao had pressed earlier.

Another wave of water rushed out and surged downward.

She said excitedly, “If it’s washed away, does that mean it won’t smell anymore?”

She looked at Bai Xi, and Bai Xi looked back at her. Both nodded, then simultaneously looked at Bai Miao, leaning down to ask, “Miao Miao, do you need to relieve yourself right now?”

After some testing, they finally confirmed that this flush toilet was a device that used water to wash away waste.

Bai Xi declared, “I’m going to use the bathroom here from now on!”

    Bai Yu nodded. “Fine.”

Bai Xi said with a chuckle, “No wonder those two people just now said the flush toilet was good. It really is a great thing. The outside of this plane looks like a mess, but the things here are truly useful. I just don’t know what electricity is or if it’s easy to use.”

“It’s okay, we can learn slowly,” Bai Yu said, opening the display for several rooms below. They couldn’t see every scene; the images shown to them were always normal conversations, and nothing inappropriate ever appeared. Right now, the guests who had just arrived were shown. “The guests for those rooms on the 28th floor have all arrived.”

“They’re all so happy,” Bai Xi said, looking at the guests on the screen. “They look incredibly happy, just like… just like when we first got the Check-in shells.”

“Maybe they’re as happy as we would be if we could return to the mainland one day and see Eldest Uncle, Second Uncle, and everyone else,” Bai Yu said. “If such a day ever comes.”

Bai Xi thought about it and nodded. “Then we would definitely be as happy as they are.”

This group of guests wasn’t just happy. Like the mother and two daughters from before, they began to weep in each other’s arms after entering the rooms. Although they weren’t facing them directly, Bai Yu and Bai Xi could still feel their emotions.

Thus, they didn’t hesitate for long and soon opened the Rental Interface to start looking for new tenants.

No matter how far away these people were, they would find every possible way to come. One after another, they rented out all the rooms that had been made available, causing the building to gradually become lively.

The three sisters had limited time to spend here. Although the houses were very good, there was no Spiritual Qi or Magic Power. They needed to cultivate, which had to be done in the White Mist Plane and the Magic Plane.

Having experienced the encounter with the wicked man when they first arrived, they all believed that making themselves stronger was vital. Therefore, they spent most of their time in the two planes where they could cultivate.

However, they also needed to understand the situation of the New Plane. So, on another clear day, they went out and headed downstairs together.

The building was very tall, and climbing down took a considerable amount of time.

Fortunately, their bodies were in great condition now, so walking down wasn’t too exhausting. Bai Yu was even able to carry Bai Miao on her back.

This time, they walked all the way to the first floor.

The dilapidated scenes they had observed from above were only the tip of the iceberg compared to what they saw once they were actually on the ground.

“It looks like something terrible happened to this plane,” Bai Xi said, reaching out to take Bai Yu’s hand. “It feels even more severe than the Magic Beast attacks on the Magic Plane.”

“Yes, Magic Beast attacks only hit certain areas, but something much worse seems to have happened here,” Bai Yu said, pulling her toward the right as they spoke. “We saw from the board earlier that many people actually live nearby, but we can’t see them on the surface. They must live underground.”

“Why live underground?” Bai Xi asked curiously. “Even if the houses here have become like this, can’t they be rebuilt?”

Bai Yu shook her head; she wanted to ask the same thing.

Walking out of the building, they didn’t encounter a single person.

After walking for a while, Bai Xi’s grip on Bai Yu’s hand tightened. she whispered, “Eldest Sister, I’m a little scared.”

Bai Yu stopped and looked around. She still saw no one and found no way to learn about this plane. She squeezed Bai Xi’s hand back. “Let’s go back.”

“Going back already? We still don’t know anything.” Bai Xi glanced quickly to the left and right.

“Let me think,” Bai Yu stood still for a moment. “Can’t we collect rent? Let’s see if we can include things like books in the list of items acceptable for rent. That way, we don’t have to come out to get books from this plane. Then we can let the board in the classroom teach us, just like with the books from the Magic Plane.”

    Bai Xi nodded repeatedly.

With their opinions in agreement, they quickly turned back toward the building.

Returning required climbing up. This time, their speed going upstairs was even faster than going down. They practically ran back to the top floor, and only after entering their door did they all breathe a sigh of relief.

Perhaps because of the person they met when they first arrived, they always felt this plane was more terrifying than both the White Mist Plane and the Magic Plane.

Just then, they saw something fluttering outside the window.

    “What is that?”

The transparent board was opened again. The guests in several rooms below were huddled by their windows, watching the scene outside as well.

    “It’s coming again!”

“I saw the sky looked wrong just now. This kind of weather definitely means wind. Sure enough, it’s here.”

    “Why can’t we feel it?”

A person in one of the rooms opened a window. The wind outside instantly gusted in, flipping over a cabinet in the room. It wasn’t until the window was slammed shut again that the cabinet crashed heavily to the floor with a loud thud.

The people in the room below guessed what had happened upstairs.

“They must have opened the window. How foolish. Daring to open a window in this wind; they’ll learn their lesson once they get blown away.”

People in another room also heard the noise, but they only glanced up before continuing to look out the window, talking with their companions.

“This house really is different. As long as the windows are closed, you can’t even hear the sound of the wind outside.”

“Since the Landlord of this house had the ability to deliver the Room Cards right to us, how could she not have a way to deal with the wind? Are you still regretting coming with me?”

    “Haven’t I already been convinced by you? I’m here, aren’t I?”

“You’d better listen to me from now on. If it weren’t for me, you’d still be living in fear back at the gathering zone. With wind this strong, the underground gathering zone definitely isn’t stable either.”

“The wind is actually better, since it mostly blows through the air. The real worry is rain. Before the internet was cut off, I heard that in some places, a single rainstorm could submerge an entire city.”

“Then I guess we’re lucky to be in a wind zone.”

“That much rain? It could drown a whole city?” Bai Xi asked in shock.

“I heard from Second Aunt that over twenty years ago, the New City was submerged by rainwater too. So many people died in that storm. Back then, the river levels rose so high that people couldn’t even find a place to anchor their boats at night. It was terrifying.”

“If the boats couldn’t anchor and the water rose that high, wouldn’t you wake up and have no idea where you’d drifted to?”

“That’s why everyone took turns sleeping during that time. Every boat had to have someone staying up for the night watch.”

“Hearing that, it really does sound much scarier than this wind,” Bai Xi said, her eyes suddenly widening. “With wind this strong, if we hadn’t made it back, wouldn’t we be in great danger out there?”

Bai Yu watched the gale outside swirling unknown debris through the air, her heart still pounding with lingering fear. “Actually, we don’t necessarily have to go out anymore, right?”

“Let’s definitely not go out,” Bai Xi said, immediately opening her tablet. “Let me see… how to add books to the rental supplies list.”

“Is that possible?” Bai Yu leaned in to look.

Bai Miao squeezed up between the two of them, hugging one arm of each girl as she stared at Bai Xi’s tablet.

“It’s possible,” Bai Xi found the section for adding supplies. “We want books. What else?”

“How about clothes?” Bai Yu suggested. “A lot of people here are dressed differently than us.”

“Then we’ll ask for clothes too, and pictures for Miao Miao to look at, and…” Bai Xi looked at the bottom column. “There’s an option here for ‘Anything Goes.’ It says ‘Any materials usable in this Plane are acceptable, Shell will determine the price, with a ten percent commission fee.'”

Bai Yu had no objections. “Let Shell handle it. We don’t understand any of this anyway.”

“Then I’ll pick ‘Anything Goes,'” Bai Xi reached out and made the selection. Only after finishing did she ask, “How much is a ten percent commission?”

“It doesn’t matter. We’re getting these things for free anyway, as long as there are books in the items they give us,” Bai Yu said. “Besides, I’ve heard that scholars have to pay their teachers a tuition fee. We haven’t paid anything for attending Shell’s classes, so let’s just consider this the tuition.”

“True, our things were given to us by Shell in the first place,” Bai Xi agreed that it wasn’t a problem. After confirming the selection, she didn’t look at the contents further, only saying, “I just hope there are books in the next batch of supplies.”

“Even if there aren’t, it’s fine.”

    “Yeah, that’s fine too.”
