The three sisters were no longer as ignorant and naive as they had been at the beginning.
Although they didn’t have much practical experience, after reading many books, they had naturally developed a set of methods based on what they had read. As for the specifics of how to execute them, they simply followed the steps one by one.
The fishermen hadn’t received much education anyway. As long as they didn’t have to go hungry, they were willing to work hard.
However, before officially issuing tasks, the island began brewing pot after pot of medicine.
In addition to the fishermen Bai Yu had rescued who were fit for work, there were others who had been imprisoned in dark corners. Their physical ailments were more severe; besides starvation, they suffered from various illnesses and pains.
Although the three sisters had read many books, they didn’t understand the treatment of diseases well, so they simply brewed a large amount of medicine.
Those with specific symptoms took medicine for their conditions as quickly as possible, while those without special symptoms were also required to take some tonics to strengthen their bodies. These medicines all came from the Magic Plane. Taking them for a long time would naturally be bad for the body, but if they only took a few doses over a short period, any potential problems wouldn’t be too serious.
Of course, these medicines also tasted strange.
Many people couldn’t help but grumble to those beside them while taking the medicine. Even without listening closely, one could tell they were complaining about the odd taste. But because there was no other choice, they could only grit their teeth and drink it bowl by bowl.
Fortunately, the effects were remarkable.
By the time Bai Yu had led people to deal with another group of returning pirates and was ready to set out again to search for people, many were already able to walk around. They couldn’t do heavy labor, but they could handle tasks like mending and sewing.
Following that, Bai Xi began to arrange for the remaining fishermen to work according to the plan she had discussed with Bai Miao.
First, they repaired the houses left behind by the pirates, then assigned different living quarters based on the fishermen’s situations.
Next, they identified what the fishermen were good at and assigned them to different posts. Some were dedicated to farming, some to guarding, and others took the pirates’ ships to search nearby for any trace of surviving pirates.
Once she confirmed that everything was proceeding in an orderly fashion, Bai Yu took a group and headed in the direction Bai Wei had pointed out to search for their family members who had escaped.
…
“I found a few more wild fruits. You guys eat first.”
Ever since the pirates attacked and they fled, they had returned to the shore several times during this period. However, every time, after only a few days, they would encounter pirates coming from a distance.
Because they were vigilant, they always managed to escape, but no one dared to gamble. They were terrified that a single moment of carelessness would lead to their capture.
So, they continued to live in their hiding place during this time.
“It’s our turn to go fishing.”
“Eldest Uncle, I’ll go with you. I run fast.”
“Bai Ye, did you forget what Bai Wei said when he left?”
“I haven’t forgotten, but my sister and I can’t always let you worry about us, Eldest Uncle. You don’t need to worry about me. I’m fast. If I run into pirates, I certainly won’t just stand there like an idiot.”
“You’re still young,” Bai Dashu frowned.
“I’m not young. When Sister Yu was taking care of Xiao Xi and Miao Miao by herself, she was about the same age I am now,” Bai Ye insisted as he walked to Bai Dashu’s side. “Just let me go. I want to work.”
Bai Dashu looked at him and, unable to persuade him otherwise in the end, could only nod. “Then be sharp later. If you notice anything wrong, you must run fast.”
Bai Ye nodded immediately.
…
“That island over there is where they lived before,” Feng Yuanyi said, following Bai Yu to act as a translator. “After these fishermen were captured, the pirates went there several more times, but no one else was caught after that. They must have hidden themselves. If we go over now, they might hide from us too.”
“Mhm. Let’s change to the new flag now.” Bai Yu looked up at the flag hanging not far away.
When leaving Pirate Island, they had kept the pirates’ Skull Flag flying to avoid being caught off guard if they ran into other pirates. Now that they were nearing their destination, they naturally had to change to a different flag. Otherwise, if the ship docked and the people they were looking for went into hiding, it would be a bad situation.
Feng Yuanyi immediately went to communicate the order, and soon the flag on the ship was changed from the skull to one with the character “Bai.”
As the ship drew closer, several fishermen who had originally lived there ran to the deck, looking toward the island with desperate eyes, hoping to see their families at the first possible moment.
Bai Yu also stood on the deck, squinting at the distance.
Her eyesight was much better than the fishermen’s. After squinting for a while, she quickly spotted a few cautious figures.
Those people also noticed the appearance of the ship. Without waiting to see the ship’s details clearly, they hurriedly left the shore and ran toward the interior of the island.
After she mentioned this to Feng Yuanyi, he looked back at the flag on the ship. “So our move to change the flag was completely meaningless.”
“It would be meaningful if they could see it. But looking at it now, the reason they were able to dodge the pirates’ searches before was because they ran fast enough. They didn’t see the pirates’ situation clearly, and the pirates didn’t discover them, which is why they escaped time and again. That’s a good thing.” Bai Yu wasn’t overly anxious.
After all, they had local fishermen with them this time who knew roughly where the remaining people might be hiding.
The ship officially docked, and there was no sign of anyone left on the shore.
Bai Yu left Feng Yuanyi and some others behind, taking a few local fishermen ashore to head toward the direction where they thought their families were hiding.
However, they weren’t sure of the exact location, only a general direction. So, once they reached the area, they began shouting the names of their family members at the top of their lungs.
Meanwhile, Bai Dashu and Bai Ye had already run back.
“Are the pirates here again?”
“We didn’t see clearly. We only saw a large ship coming. We didn’t dare stay on the shore for long, so we ran back.”
“But we brought back the fish we just caught.”
Bai Ye held up the fish in his hand and smiled at everyone.
Everyone’s faces showed a hint of a smile.
“That’s great. With these fish, we can have a few more meals.”
“Damn those pirates, why did they have to target us?”
“Let’s gut the fish and hang them up first. We can’t light a fire for now, otherwise, if the pirates see it, it’ll be easy for them to track us down.”
“Come, eat some wild fruits to stave off the hunger.”
Regardless of whether the incoming ship belonged to pirates or not, they didn’t dare take the risk. Naturally, they didn’t think for a moment that the newcomers might actually be their family. In their understanding, once someone was taken by pirates, there was almost no chance of survival.
But since many days had passed since the incident, their emotions had gradually stabilized. They didn’t constantly think about the family members taken by the pirates.
That was until someone heard a faint sound and suddenly stood up.
Bai Ye was handing a peeled wild fruit to his sister when he also seemed to hear a sound and looked up abruptly.
After listening for a moment, he asked in confusion, “Eldest Uncle, why do I seem to hear someone saying ‘I am Bai Yu’?”
“You must have misheard,” Bai Dashu replied reflexively.
“Really,” Bai Ye pricked up his ears, listening to the voice that was becoming clearer and clearer. “Eldest Uncle, listen. Is someone shouting, saying she is Bai Yu? And she’s calling for Eldest Uncle.”
Bai Dashu also heard the faint voice and was stunned.
“Eldest Aunt!”
“It really seems to be, but how can that be?” Eldest Aunt also stood up. “How could it be Bai Yu? How would Xiao Yu know we are here?”
“Brother, I heard it! Now they’re shouting ‘Bai Ye’ and ‘Bai Lian.’ Are they calling for me?” Bai Lian also stood up suddenly. “Are they calling me? I didn’t hear wrong, did I?”
“That person is looking for Bai Ye and Bai Lian? Are the names the same?”
“It’s definitely Sister Yu, no doubt about it,” Bai Lian said excitedly, shouting at the top of her lungs, “Sister Yu, Sister Yu! We’re over here!!!”
As her shout faded, the voice from the other side rang out again: “Xiao Lian, is that you?”
“It’s me, Sister Yu! We’re right here!”
The voices drew closer, and Bai Yu’s voice became increasingly clear: “We’ve come to find you. Don’t worry, everything is fine now.”
Following her voice were the shouts of others calling out for their own families.
At this point, everyone else besides the Bai family stood up in excitement. “That’s my boy! That’s definitely my boy’s voice! He’s okay, thank goodness, he made it back alive!”
“And my son too! He’s back! It’s them, it’s really them!”
Some of the most overwhelmed people hurried toward the sound, and before long, the sounds of bitter weeping drifted back.
Meanwhile, Bai Yu pushed through the hidden thickets and arrived at their temporary campsite, seeing all the members of the Bai family gathered there.
“Sister Yu!” Bai Lian ran forward and threw her arms around Bai Yu, sobbing uncontrollably. “Sister Yu, it really is you! You came for us! How did you find us? I was so scared.”
“Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. It’s alright now,” Bai Yu said, patting her back to comfort her. “Nothing bad will happen from now on. Rest assured, I will protect you.”
Bai Ye stepped forward. He didn’t hug Bai Yu, but he couldn’t stop the tears from streaming down his face.
As the others arrived, he looked at them and then turned back to Bai Yu. “Sister Yu, my brother… he…”
“Third Brother is fine. He just sustained some injuries. When we left, he was still in bed recovering. Traveling would have made his condition worse, so I didn’t let him come along.” Bai Yu didn’t go into detail about Bai Wei’s condition to avoid worrying them too much. Regardless, they would see for themselves once they arrived.
Eldest Uncle and Eldest Aunt also approached. “Xiao Yu, how is it that you’re coming from the direction of the pirates?”
“It’s a long story, but the pirate problem has been resolved. There are no pirates left on that island now. The remaining fishermen all plan to settle there. Will you come with me?” Bai Yu asked.
The group looked at each other, still feeling a bit uneasy.
“Is it really safe? What if more pirates show up?”
“Yes, it’s fine. Even if we run into pirates again, it won’t matter. I’m very strong now,” Bai Yu said. Seeing their skeptical looks, she walked over to a large boulder nearby. She lifted the stone with ease, carried it several paces, and set it down on the other side.
Now, it wasn’t just the Bai family; everyone else stared at her and the boulder in utter shock.
