Chapter 5: The Real Heir in a Fake Young Master Heartthrob Novel

Little Fat Jiu was very happy being coaxed by his dad, but looking at his father’s smiling face, he couldn’t help but worry that in the future, when his dad saw the parents he had always longed for caring more about the other child, he would feel disappointed and hurt.

“A frown doesn’t look good at all. How about a smile?”

Shen Yijing noticed that his little one seemed to be sulking, so he held the tip of his wing and teased him.

“Dad, what if that couple likes the other child more?”

After saying this, Jiujiu didn’t wait for his dad’s answer and continued:

“Don’t worry, Dad. Even if they don’t like you, it’s okay. I can pluck my feathers and sell them for money. Life will definitely get better and better.”

“If others don’t like you, Jiujiu likes you the most.”

Little Fat Jiu’s voice always sounded like a three-year-old child, sweet and crisp, making people feel very comfortable when they heard it.

No matter what he said, even when he was angry and puffed up, it still sounded like he was acting cute.

“Alright, as long as Jiujiu likes me, that’s enough. But you can’t pluck your feathers anymore.”

Shen Yijing didn’t have high hopes about his biological parents, especially after seeing how much his little one worried about it.

But for him, no matter how bad the situation was, it would still be better than now.

“Jiujiu, what kind of chicken are you, exactly? How long can you stay with me?”

Shen Yijing placed Jiujiu in his palm and stared at him. He didn’t know how long a chicken could live at most, but it was definitely shorter than a human lifespan.

Right now, he couldn’t even imagine the scene of Jiujiu leaving him.

Jiujiu, who was obediently sitting in his dad’s palm, stood up as soon as he heard this. The soft down on his body stood on end.

    “I’m not a chicken!!”

“I can live for a very long time. Outliving you won’t be a problem.”

A divine beast lives as long as the heavens. No one can outlive him. Just his juvenile period alone would outlast many people.

    “Really?”

    “Really.”

If anyone else called him a chicken, Jiujiu would definitely rush over and peck them twice. But since this was his dad, he just got a little upset, sulked for three seconds, and then responded.

    “That’s great, hehe.”

Now Shen Yijing didn’t have to worry about being too young to give his little one a better life.

As long as he could always be with him, that day would come eventually.

Jiujiu quietly shifted to a more comfortable position and lay down again. He was actually a bit curious—why would any parents not like their own biological child?

    “What are you thinking about?”

“I’m thinking about the pink bow. Does it not match Jiujiu’s fierce and mighty vibe?”

Jiujiu pointed at the bow on his chest with his wing. Teacher Wu had put it on him. At first, he didn’t like it much, but after walking around in front of the mirror a couple of times, he liked it more and more.

    “It’s very cute.”

“Mm, so it does match after all.”

Gu Father and Gu Mother arrived in this small city in the afternoon. It could barely be considered a third-tier city, still developing, and was a mix of urban and rural areas.

Just thinking about their biological child growing up in such an environment made Gu Mother’s eyes turn red. Out of misplaced anger, she hadn’t looked at Gu Qian once during the whole trip.

No matter how old Gu Qian was at the time, or whether he was innocent or not, Gu Mother didn’t want to see him anymore.

The parents of the other children born at the hospital at the same time had all been contacted by the police station, but only their family’s paternity test didn’t match.

Even so, to be sure, after arriving here, they did another test.

At the Public Security Bureau, they saw the child following Teacher Wu. His clothes weren’t designer brands, but they looked very comfortable.

A little yellow chick poked its head out of the hoodie pocket, curiously staring at them. Its dark, shiny eyes inexplicably seemed very spirited.

Shen Yijing suddenly realized they seemed to be staring at him, so he instinctively looked down.

Jiujiu didn’t have time to hide back in the pocket and was caught by his dad. He nuzzled his dad’s hand with his head, but still couldn’t avoid being pushed back in by a finger.

Before the results came out, Shen Yijing stayed at Teacher Wu’s house.

Teacher Wu was definitely the happiest person besides Shen Yijing himself. She had often lamented before why such a well-behaved child’s parents didn’t like him.

Even though life was a bit tough now, for an ordinary family like this, studying was the best way to change one’s fate.

Sometimes, when she was bored at home during her days off, she would complain to her own parents, wondering if Shen Yijing was really their biological child. She never expected he actually wasn’t.

During the days she spent with Shen Yijing, she always had a smile on her face.

Gu Mother only came to her senses after Shen Yijing and the others walked out, and hurriedly chased after them.

    “Child, I am your mother.”

Gu Mother had still been a bit doubtful before, but after seeing him, all doubts disappeared. Even though the paternity test results weren’t out yet, it was the same.

That strange sense of closeness from blood ties made Gu Mother so emotional her nose stung, and with red eyes, she squatted down in front of Shen Yijing. Her arms trembled as she reached out.

She wanted to hug him, but was afraid her actions would be too abrupt.

Jiujiu, who had just been pushed back, curiously poked his head out again, staring at this person who had treated the protagonist so well in the original story, tilting his head in curiosity.

“Your name is Shen Yijing, right? I’m sorry, it’s, it’s…”

Before she could finish, Gu Mother’s tears started falling in big drops, and she couldn’t control her emotions, almost fainting.

Luckily, her husband was beside her and caught her in time, his lowered voice full of concern.

“Don’t scare the child. Last time at the checkup, the doctor said you shouldn’t get too emotional.”

Officer Tan, after confirming that Shen Yijing was not the biological child of that couple, went to investigate the child’s life experience from childhood, visiting neighbors and even the shopkeeper he had met before.

When Shen Yijing was very young, his mother, obsessed with playing mahjong, would refuse to give him food. It was common for him to eat only one meal a day.

She wouldn’t buy him school supplies, and even took away the money he earned from picking up trash, which he had planned to use to buy those supplies.

Before coming for the paternity test, Gu’s mother had heard Officer Tan mention these things. At the time, it felt like a knife was twisting in her heart, the pain making her whole body tremble uncontrollably.

“Can Mommy give you a hug? Just one hug.”

Seeing how emotional she was, Shen Yijing nodded gently and replied, “Okay.”

Gu’s mother held him tightly in her arms, feeling the slight frailness of his body. She took a deep breath, but before she could say anything, he pushed her away forcefully.

Realizing Shen Yijing’s resistance toward her, Gu’s mother froze on the spot.

Shen Yijing’s little face scrunched up, and he reached into his pocket, glancing at Juijui. Juijui curiously poked out and gently bit his father’s finger with its beak.

    “Cheep?”

    “You just squished my Jiujiu.”

Gu’s mother wiped away her tears, forced a smile, and lowered her head to apologize.

“I’m really sorry, Mommy was too emotional. I’m sorry.”

    “It’s okay.”

Teacher Wu had to go back to school for the third period in the morning. Shen Yijing knew about this, so he didn’t stay long. As he was led away by Teacher Wu, he thought for a moment, then turned and waved at them.

At the police station, not only did they do the paternity test for them, but also for Gu Qian and that couple. The results came out together.

Gu’s mother gripped the paper tightly, then turned and sobbed in her husband’s arms, almost unable to breathe.

    “He’s our child, he’s our family’s child.”

She was born with a condition that made it hard to get pregnant. Back then, she had sought medical help for years for this child and drank a lot of herbal medicine. When she finally got pregnant, she practically lived in the hospital.

After all that hardship, she finally had a precious child. She never expected life to be perfect for him, but at the very least, he should have had enough to eat.

Gu’s father patted her back, comforting her:

“He’s still young. We’ll bring him home and slowly make it up to him in the future.”

Sitting on the bench, Shen’s mother was completely blank when she received the test results. Only after hearing this did she snap out of it.

“Then what about that child? You’ve raised him for so many years—don’t you have any feelings for him at all?”

Upon hearing this, Gu’s mother walked up to Shen’s mother, raised her hand, and slapped her hard across the face, shouting hysterically:

“You did it on purpose! You must have done it on purpose! Otherwise, how could you treat my son like that? And now that it’s Gu Qian’s turn, you suddenly want to be a good mother?”

Thinking of how she had cherished Gu Qian as a treasure, while her own biological child was treated like nothing by Gu Qian’s birth parents, Gu’s mother gasped for breath and fainted on the spot.

Shen Yijing was taken straight to the hospital. Seeing the woman lying in the hospital bed, he instinctively reached into his pocket for Jiujiu.

Lately, Jiujiu had become obsessed with the game of biting his father’s finger. Whenever his father put his hand in, Jiujiu would bite it and tug backward.

When Gu’s mother woke up, the first thing she saw was the child by her bedside. Tears slid down her cheeks as she whispered,

    “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it’s all Mommy’s fault.”

Shen Yijing gently shook his head. He wanted to hold her hand, but when he pulled his hand out of his pocket, he accidentally brought Jiujiu out with him.

Jiujiu was forced to tumble a few times on the blanket, dizzy and curled up into a ball, with only two short claws waving in the air.

    “Cheep cheep cheep!”

This unexpected scene completely dispelled Gu’s mother’s grief. She propped herself up and helped the little yellow chick, claws in the air, to its feet.

“Is this your pet? He’s very cute. In our home, you can set up a little nest just for him, or keep him in your own room, okay?”

Gu’s mother made this suggestion cautiously, then stared at Shen Yijing.

She didn’t dare say outright that she wanted the child to come home with her, afraid he would refuse, even more afraid he wouldn’t give her a chance to make up for things.

Jiujiu noticed that his dad was still hesitating at a time like this, so he shook his chubby body and hopped into Gu’s mother’s palm.

Once he had her attention, he nodded vigorously.

Realizing that his neck wasn’t very obvious, he repeated the gesture.

    “See, he seems willing.”

Looking at Jiujiu sitting there, Shen Yijing thought he couldn’t possibly be more willing.

Jiujiu, seeing that his dad still wasn’t saying anything, chirped twice to hurry him along.

    “Cheep cheep~”
