Chapter 12: The Scumbag CEO’s Pursuit (Part 3)

Lu Wanrong’s toothbrush clattered to the floor, and she stared blankly at it. Did Fu Yu really refuse to let her go?

A bitterness crept into her mouth.

Yu Liuxue waited for half an hour before Lu Wanrong finished applying makeup and changing clothes. Yu Liuxue naturally approached her and said, “It’s getting late. I’ll drive you to the TV station.”

    Distracted, Lu Wanrong didn’t refuse.

Watching the two leave one after the other, Lu Qian ground her teeth. She picked up her phone, scrolling through her contacts, muttering, “I need to contact that tycoon who used to pursue my sister relentlessly. He should seize this opportunity to marry her. Hmph, Fu Yu is nothing compared to him; she doesn’t even come close to the tip of his wealth. If my sister marries the tycoon, she’ll be set for life.”

Yu Liuxue’s car was parked at the entrance of the community. It was fine when she parked it yesterday, but this morning it was scratched up. Lu Wanrong’s lips twitched, but Yu Liuxue seemed unfazed. “Don’t worry. I’ll have someone look into the surveillance footage.”

Since she said that, Lu Wanrong didn’t say anything further.

Once in the car, Lu Wanrong gazed out the window, hardly speaking, her demeanor cold and indifferent. Seeing this, Yu Liuxue focused on driving, trying to be a satisfactory companion to the heroine. As they neared the TV station, Yu Liuxue parked the car, and Lu Wanrong finally spoke after contemplating the whole ride.

“Fu Yu, when are you available to discuss the divorce?”

The car fell silent. In the oppressive atmosphere, Lu Wanrong could hear her anxious heartbeat. She felt unsure. The Fu family was powerful, and if Fu Yu insisted on not divorcing, there would be nothing she could do.

But when Yu Liuxue spoke, Lu Wanrong almost doubted her ears.

“In a while,” the woman beside her said nonchalantly. She held the steering wheel with one hand, her fingers long and attractive. “I’ll discuss it with you once I’m free from work.”

Lu Wanrong stared at her, bewildered. Had Fu Yu’s attitude really changed that quickly? Just earlier at home…

Before she could process the thought, the woman turned, calmly looking at her. With a slight smile, she said, “Wanrong, if you truly want a divorce, I can grant you that.”

“But you don’t naively think that we’ll be done with each other once we divorce, do you?”

Instinctively, Lu Wanrong looked up at her. Fu Yu was always imposing and aggressive. Indeed, anything Fu Yu wanted never escaped her grasp.

    Including herself.

Embarrassed, Lu Wanrong lowered her head, grabbed her bag, and opened the car door, her high heels clicking on the ground. “Thank you for driving me today.”

Yu Liuxue watched her intently, and just as Lu Wanrong closed the car door, Yu Liuxue chuckled softly. “Wanrong, I’ll pretend I never saw your resignation letter.”

Startled, Lu Wanrong watched as Yu Liuxue drove away.

After a night on the floor, Yu Liuxue’s body ached all over. She went home for a refreshing shower and booked a beauty treatment and massage. Just as she finished her skincare session, Mu Huan, the original character’s male secretary, called in a frenzy. “Miss Fu, where are you? Everyone’s waiting for you to start the meeting. Afterward, you need to discuss a collaboration with OY Group’s manager. In the afternoon, Chairman Fu is visiting for an inspection. Everyone’s waiting for your instructions…”

Yu Liuxue’s head throbbed. She couldn’t help but ask, “Can’t you handle these things on your own?”

“Do I pay you to vacation at the company?”

Mu Huan, a trusted aide appointed by Chairman Fu to help the original character manage the company, was dedicated to ensuring Fu Yu established herself firmly in the company. Having encountered many challenges, Mu Huan was momentarily at a loss from Yu Liuxue’s logic.

“Miss Fu, this is also Chairman Fu’s instruction.”

Yu Liuxue, feeling resigned, said, “Alright, I’m on my way.”

I thought my sole task was to win back the heroine’s heart, but I didn’t expect I’d have to play the busy CEO too.

The Fu family’s company was vast, and Yu Liuxue had countless trivial matters to handle personally. The original character at this point was a carefree socialite, infatuated with young celebrities and influencers, not involved in the company’s operations. By the time Yu Liuxue managed the original character’s mess, half a month had passed.

Lu Wanrong had been quiet lately. After her resignation was rejected, she hadn’t made any more moves, dutifully working from nine to six. Meanwhile, she went viral while filling in for a colleague, earning the title “Most Beautiful Host” online and gaining a million followers overnight.

This was part of the original plot, so it didn’t surprise Yu Liuxue.

After wrapping up her tasks for the day, Yu Liuxue realized she hadn’t seen Lu Wanrong in over two weeks. Grabbing her car keys, she rushed to the TV station to pick her up, only to be told that Lu Wanrong was dining with sponsors at the behest of her superiors.

Lu Wanrong wasn’t unfamiliar with such dinners, having endured one before tonight. She was just surprised to see Lin Hong, the local tycoon who pursued her persistently in the past. But back then, she was disillusioned with love and hadn’t accepted his proposal.

Lin Hong still maintained his gentlemanly demeanor, pulling out chairs for the ladies and finally approaching Lu Wanrong. “Miss Lu, please have a seat.”

Noting her discomfort, Lin Hong respectfully distanced himself, saying, “I’ve often heard friends speak of Miss Lu with admiration. I’m delighted to finally meet you, and I hope you won’t mind.”

A colleague interjected, “Unfortunately, Mr. Lin, our Wanrong is already married.”

Lin Hong just smiled, “Don’t misunderstand. I admire Miss Lu, that’s all.”

This prompted teasing, and Lu Wanrong calmly replied to Lin Hong, “Thank you.”

If not for Lin Hong’s considerate attentions, the dinner would have been pleasant. While heading to the restroom, a colleague gossiped with Lu Wanrong, “Wanrong, I think Mr. Lin is interested in you!”

Lu Wanrong snapped softly, “Don’t talk nonsense.”

Her colleague shook her head, “I’m serious, Wanrong. I know men well. If he weren’t interested, why would Mr. Lin focus on you tonight, and not me, or the higher-ups?”

“Wanrong, forgive my bluntness, but I think Mr. Lin is much better than Fu Yu.” Noting her expression, the coworker continued, “Look at Fu Yu—always in tabloid scandals. How long have you been married, anyway? Imagine dealing with it longer. How could you possibly control her?”

Lu Wanrong lowered her eyelashes, “I know what I’m doing.”

“Ah, Wanrong, you’re too naive. Fu Yu is a wealthy heiress, not someone you can handle.”

With a bitter smile, Lu Wanrong acknowledged this understanding took her a lifetime to learn.

As the gathering ended, Lin Hong approached Lu Wanrong, “Miss Lu, it’s late, and your home is far. It’s unsafe to take a cab alone. If you trust me, allow me to give you a ride.”

“Mr. Lin, why only offer Wanrong a ride? What about us? We’re women too, not safe alone.”

“Indeed, Mr. Lin. Isn’t this favoritism?”

Lin Hong sighed, while Lu Wanrong looked displeased, “Stop teasing, Xiao Bai.”

Mistaking her discomfort for shyness, Lin Hong urged, “Miss Lu, please…”

“No need to trouble Mr. Lin with such matters.” Yu Liuxue suddenly appeared from behind a hallway wall. No one knew how long she’d been there or how much she’d overheard. Everyone fell silent, even Lin Hong became more cautious.

Rumor was Fu Yu was a notorious troublemaker.

Yu Liuxue pulled Lu Wanrong closer, coolly saying, “Impressively, you offer to drive someone else’s wife home. If you’re capable, Mr. Lin, you’d pick up and drop off your own wife, rain or shine.”

Embarrassment brushed Lin Hong’s face, but his composure did not falter.

With poise, Lin Hong smiled barely, “Seeing Miss Lu has transportation, I’ll excuse myself.”

Lin Hong’s retreat seemed to close the matter, but Yu Liuxue acted unexpectedly.

    “Wait—”

Turning, Lin Hong asked with amusement, “Anything else, Miss Fu?”

Yu Liuxue tilted her head, “Kindly maintain a ten-meter distance from my wife in the future.”

“Mr. Lin will understand, won’t you?”

Lin Hong’s face was impassive, “Naturally.”

The whole scenario felt surreal to Lu Wanrong, like a dream. Fu Yu, who clearly didn’t care for her, suddenly showed up asserting herself against Lin Hong.

Instinctively, Lu Wanrong looked at Yu Liuxue. As Yu Liuxue lowered her head, their eyes met. Three seconds later, Lu Wanrong looked away, feeling vulnerable.

Perhaps Fu Yu just found it amusing.

Deeply convinced Fu Yu couldn’t possibly like her, Lu Wanrong dismissed the thought at once.

As she bid her colleagues farewell, they expressed envy. “Wanrong, Fu Yu personally came to pick you up so late. You’re really lucky.”

“Yeah, Wanrong, you’re wicked, acting like you and Fu Yu aren’t sweet on each other. We almost bought into the rumors…”

“Stop, stop. Continuing this will upset Miss Fu. Let’s leave.”

Though wanting to clarify, no words came. Yu Liuxue approached her, “I heard you haven’t been home in weeks. What? Think Fu Yu can’t afford you?”

“Lately, the company’s kept me busy. I’ve been sleeping and eating there and had a week-long business trip. As soon as we wrapped things up today, I came to pick you up at the TV station.” Her voice was still soothing, but with every word Yu Liuxue spoke, Lu Wanrong felt more disconnected.

How could Fu Yu change so much?

Yu Liuxue secretly observed the heroine. Was she rushing things? Could this arouse her suspicion?

Her bag suddenly emitted a ringtone, showing a number in indecipherable digits. Lu Wanrong’s gaze casually swept over the screen. To prove “Fu Yu” had truly turned over a new leaf, Yu Liuxue answered the call.

A girlish voice echoed down the quiet hallway, “Miss Fu, you haven’t contacted me in days. I missed you~~~”

The coquettish tone nearly gave Yu Liuxue a heart attack.

Yu Liuxue: “…?” Who are you?! I don’t recognize you at all!!!

Wanrong, please let me explain! It’s not what it seems, it has nothing to do with me. I don’t know anything!
