No matter the time or place, no matter her mood.
She always thought he looked too good.

    Fairy Su Zai Zai’s Diary

    The next day was Friday.

After school, Su Zai Zai dawdled while packing up her things and walked out of the school gate with Jiang Jia.

Z High was the best high school in Z City, but it was located in a remote area. Surrounded by greenery, the air was fresh, the scenery pleasant, and the atmosphere tranquil.

The downside was that it took half an hour to walk from the school gate to the bus stop.

So on Fridays, many parents would come to pick up their children.

Su Zai Zai stepped down from the school gate’s stairs and, upon looking up, saw Zhang Lu Rang getting into a black private car. The door shut with a muffled thud.

    The car didn’t start immediately.

From her angle, she could see him shrug off his backpack and toss it aside.

He sank into the seat, closed his eyes, and leaned back.

Su Zai Zai stood there for a moment.

Jiang Jia, after walking a few steps forward, suddenly felt something was off. She turned back and saw Su Zai Zai standing still in the middle of the crowd, staring fixedly in one direction.

Puzzled, Jiang Jia called out, “Zai Zai!”

At the same moment, the car started moving.

As it drove forward, light and shadow flickered across his face.

    Then, he disappeared from sight.

Su Zai Zai froze for a second before snapping out of it. She ran up to Jiang Jia and gave her a big hug, grinning like an idiot.

Jiang Jia was speechless. “What are you doing?”

Su Zai Zai smiled freely, radiating joy, but she only shook her head without saying a word.

Her expression made Jiang Jia even more curious. “What did you do? You’re smiling for no reason—it’s kind of creepy, sis!”

“Rang Rang,” Su Zai Zai suddenly said.

“…The road is only this wide. Where do you want me to move?”

    “Rang Rang.”

    “Get lost.”

The sun was blazing. Even through the black coating of the sun umbrella, its heat was still palpable. People bustled around, their shadows crisscrossing on the ground.

    At that moment—

Su Zai Zai had seen it. His eyelashes fluttered slightly before he opened his eyes.

    Right when the car started.

Right when Jiang Jia called out her name.

When you have a crush, even coincidences can bring immense joy. That fleeting moment of happiness fills your entire heart in an instant.

Like honey melting into your soul, spreading sweetness.

    Saturday Noon

Su Zai Zai was home alone, sipping from a milk bag while flipping through TV channels in boredom.

Her phone buzzed on the couch.

She glanced at it and picked it up.

Jiang Jia had sent two messages.

    — I got Zhang Lu Rang’s WeChat from my classmate.

    — 134**4329

The milk bag slipped from Su Zai Zai’s mouth, spilling all over her. She let out a wail, grabbed some tissues to clean up, and rushed to her room to change clothes.

A few minutes later, she returned to the living room, picked up her phone, and sat cross-legged on the couch.

After some hesitation, she quickly typed a message.

Su Zai Zai: Do you think I should add him?

Jiang Jia: Of course! Why not?

Su Zai Zai: I feel like he won’t accept…

Su Zai Zai: And I kind of want to ask him for it myself.

Jiang Jia: Just try! What if he accepts? Then you’ll have a chance to chat and build a connection. Otherwise, at your pace, when will you ever make progress?

    That… made sense.

Su Zai Zai hesitated for a while longer, nervously biting her finger.

Finally, she made up her mind. She copied the number, clicked “Add Friend,” pasted it in, and his profile details appeared on the screen.

The profile picture was a Samoyed, tongue out, grinning happily at the camera.

    …The vibe felt off.

Su Zai Zai’s nerves instantly eased. She curiously enlarged the picture and suddenly noticed something in the bottom right corner—the dog’s neck had two fingers in the frame.

Specifically, half of an index and middle finger.

Su Zai Zai blinked. Her doubts vanished.

Even two fingers looked so attractive, radiating an irresistible charm, tempting people to kiss the screen. Who else could it be but Zhang Lu Rang?

She glanced at his nickname: zlr

Steeling herself, she shut her eyes, clenched her teeth, and pressed “Add to Contacts.”

She didn’t even bother sending a verification message, just hit “Send” immediately.

The moment she did, it felt like she had touched scalding water—she tossed the phone aside, grabbed a pillow, and buried her face in it, letting out muffled screams.

A long while later, Su Zai Zai finally pulled the pillow away from her face.

Her eyes were filled with a bright, watery glow from excitement, and her whole face was flushed red, with a few beads of sweat forming on her forehead.

Her expression was both nervous and thrilled as she stared at the phone tossed in the corner of the sofa, wanting to pick it up but not daring to.

Su Zai Zai gave up and went back to her room to do her homework.

But after writing just a few words, her mind was in chaos. Frustrated, she stood up, returned to the living room, and, as if surrendering to fate, grabbed her phone and checked—

    As expected.

    There was no message.

Even though she had anticipated it, she still felt a little disappointed.

But she quickly cheered herself up.

If a stunning guy like him accepted friend requests so easily, he’d probably have been snatched away long ago.

Su Zai Zai made a funny face at his profile picture and muttered, “One day, you’ll be the one begging to add me.”

    Sunday afternoon.

Su Zai Zai packed her things and looked out the window at the scorching sun, already feeling hot. She grabbed a plain black hair tie and casually tied her hair up before slinging her backpack over her shoulder and heading out.

Su’s mother was watching TV in the living room. When she saw Su Zai Zai coming out, she lazily glanced up and asked, “Did you pack everything? And did you get your living expenses from your dad?”

Having just taken 200 yuan from Su’s father, Su Zai Zai answered without hesitation, “Packed, didn’t take the money.”

“I know you took it.” Su’s mother sipped her water.

    “…”

“If you convince your dad to agree to get a dog, I’ll give you another 200.”

At the mention of a dog, Su Zai Zai suddenly thought of Zhang Lu Rang’s profile picture. She quickly snapped out of it and refused immediately, “Forget it, it’s just 200 yuan.”

“Wow, sticking to your principles, huh?”

Su Zai Zai went to the entryway to put on her shoes. “This is a war between you two, don’t drag me into it.”

“What do you mean ‘war’? Your dad already said we’d decide by vote. There are only three people in this house!” Su’s mother rolled her eyes. “Do you need me to drive you?”

“Drive what?” Su Zai Zai checked her reflection in the mirror by the door and grinned. “It’s your only day off this week. You should enjoy your rest.”

Su’s mother didn’t insist. “Alright, be careful on the way. Call me when you get to school.”

    “Got it.”

Even in late October, the sun was still as intense as early summer. The asphalt road seemed like it was about to catch fire, and the grass along the sidewalks gave off a strong scent.

Su Zai Zai hated the heat. She quickly ducked into a nearby convenience store and bought an ice-cold bottle of mineral water, pressing it against her face to cool down.

When she reached the bus stop, she closed her umbrella, folded it neatly, and stuffed it into her backpack. Sitting down on a bench, she pulled out her phone and checked the live location of Bus 71 on a public service account.

Still more than ten stops away…

Su Zai Zai instantly regretted her decision.

    She was way too stupid!

She should have come down when it was five stops away! She wanted to scream from frustration!

After sitting for a moment, she suddenly stood up and walked toward the bus stop sign.

No way, she couldn’t wait any longer.

Maybe she could find another bus and transfer partway…

But after just two steps, she stopped, momentarily stunned.

Next to the bus stop sign stood a young man.

He stood in the shade, wearing plain black earphones, his backpack neatly strapped to his back. His expression was calm as he quietly watched the passing traffic.

A few seconds later, as if feeling a bit hot, he raised his mineral water and took a couple of sips, his Adam’s apple moving with the motion.

Then, with the back of the hand holding the bottle cap, he wiped his lips.

Su Zai Zai’s gaze followed his movements, eventually settling on his lips.

    She couldn’t help but swallow.

    Gulp.

    The sound was embarrassingly loud.

—The road is only this wide. Where do you want me to move?” —this line could be a playful reference to Zhang Lu Rang’s name (张陆让). Since “Rang Rang” (让让) means “move aside,” it creates a humorous effect when paired with a complaint about space.
