    Haha, caught you!

    Fairy Su Zai Zai’s Diary

The next day during the big recess, Su ZaiZai arrived on time, carrying her umbrella, and stationed herself at yesterday’s spot to wait.

This time, she didn’t lower her head to play with puddles using her shoe but instead kept her eyes fixed on the school gate with a serious expression. She even put on the glasses she usually never wore outside of class.

In the distance, the lush trees blended with the fine rain and thick mist, forming a soft wash of light colors. The scenery was picturesque, beautiful as a painting.

To her surprise, the great beauty wasn’t the type to be late.

Then why had he been so calm that day?!

It seemed he was someone who remained composed no matter the situation. She admired that.

By the third day of her stakeout, the weather had cleared.

The school-wide morning exercise during recess resumed…

She decided to change her strategy.

Since the great beauty had come from the school gate that day, he was probably a day student. In that case, she just needed to get up earlier to wait for him. That way, she was bound to run into him eventually.

After finishing the last exercise movement, the dean stood in front with a microphone, organizing students to return to their classrooms. But as usual, the students didn’t listen. The moment they heard the words “return in an orderly fashion,” they threw their arms around each other’s shoulders and dispersed in a chaotic rush.

Jiang Jia was dragged to the school store by Xiao Yu.

The scorching sun hung high, the concrete ground radiated heat, and the air was thick and sticky like congealed syrup. There was no shade around the playground, and Su ZaiZai, dizzy from the heat, just wanted to hurry back to the classroom.

She squeezed through the crowd with her head down, eyes fixed on the ground ahead, taking careful, slow steps to avoid stepping on anyone’s feet.

    Then…

She bumped her head into someone’s chin.

At that moment, she heard a distinct “crack—” from the person’s jaw, like bones shifting out of place, separating from the upper jaw.

    Su ZaiZai: “…”

She quickly lifted her head, her face full of apology, blurting out her apology in one breath:

“Sorry! There were too many people… Are you… okay…?”

Her voice grew quieter towards the end.

Because she saw the person’s face.

The face she had been thinking about for seventy-two hours.

The boy furrowed his brows, rubbing his jaw with his right hand. Sweat dotted his forehead, his cheeks flushed from the sun, and his eyes were slightly downcast, looking at her with an indifferent gaze.

    “It’s fine.”

With that, he stepped around her and continued walking toward the school store.

Su ZaiZai was still in shock over the heavenly blessing that had just fallen upon her. But seeing him about to leave, she snapped back to her senses. Even her heat-induced dizziness cleared up instantly.

She quickly followed and grabbed his wrist.

The boy stopped and turned back to look at her. His sharp brows and cold gaze, the tight lines of his profile, all showed his displeasure.

Su ZaiZai immediately let go as if she had been electrocuted. She swallowed nervously, her palms damp with sweat, and the surrounding noise seemed to fade into silence.

His presence seemed magnified, clear and crisp, wrapping around her.

She wiped her sweaty hands on her school uniform pants.

The boy suddenly noticed something, and the coldness in his expression slightly eased. His gaze turned thoughtful.

Encouraged by this, she mustered up her courage and shamelessly asked,

    “…What’s your name?”

    Su ZaiZai felt utterly devastated.

Super devastated. So devastated she had lost the will to live.

Jiang Jia straddled her chair, placing a can of Coke on Su ZaiZai’s desk, grinning.

“Hey, what’s up with you? I left you alone for just a little while, and you already look like this.”

Su ZaiZai glanced at her, eyes vacant, and said nothing.

Jiang Jia thought for a moment. “Did your period start?”

Since it was Jiang Jia, Su ZaiZai answered straightforwardly, her expression sorrowful.

    “I have a crush on a boy.”

    “…”

Jiang Jia almost spit out her Sprite.

“Sigh.” Su ZaiZai traced the condensation on the Coke can with her fingers, sighing gloomily. “These droplets… are like the endless tears in my heart.”

Jiang Jia coughed a few times, then reached out to ruffle her hair.

“…What happened? Which boy? Have I seen him before? Is he an old classmate or what?”

    Su ZaiZai answered honestly,

“I don’t know if you’ve seen him, but I saw him for the first time a few days ago when I was waiting for you outside the school store.”

    “Huh? Love at first sight?”

Su ZaiZai nodded. Then, after a moment’s thought, she sighed again and added,

“I ran into him again on my way back to the classroom just now and asked for his name.”

Hearing this, Jiang Jia’s eyes lit up.

“Damn, that’s some fate! What’s his name? I might know him!”

    “…Idiot.”

“Can you speak properly?! Why are you randomly insulting me?!”

Su ZaiZai lowered her eyes. “That’s what he said.”

The moment she had heard it, she had been stunned.

How could he just start off by insulting someone…?

    It was a bit disillusioning.

    But she quickly realized—

And the realization was even worse than the disillusionment.

    Idiot…

He probably meant: I’m called Idiot, isn’t that what you just called me?

Could she even continue asking after that…?

Su ZaiZai had never expected that he would have heard what she said that day.

And even more, that he would realize she was talking about him!

Jiang Jia was furious. She slammed the desk heavily and shouted angrily, “Damn it! Why did he curse at you? Was there any need for that just because you asked for his name? What a psycho!”

Her reaction made Su ZaiZai pause for a moment. She looked up at her, hesitating to speak.

“What? Am I wrong? Are you still trying to defend him? Look at your taste in men! You are totally someone who only cares about appearances and not personality! And you said you weren’t interested in handsome guys? What a load of crap!”

Seeing how agitated Jiang Jia was, Su ZaiZai cleared her throat and spoke cautiously, “Well… it’s just that… he might have heard me call him an idiot before…”

    Silence.

Jiang Jia: “…Forget everything I just said.”

    Another moment of silence.

Jiang Jia couldn’t help but ask, “Why did you call him an idiot?”

Su ZaiZai couldn’t even remember what she was thinking at the time.

“I feel like… if he only said ‘idiot’ and nothing else, then he probably doesn’t have a good impression of you,” Jiang Jia said carefully. “He didn’t leave you any clues to find him again.”

That seemed to be the case…

Su ZaiZai let out a dramatic wail. “I regret it! Should I have just directly asked for his contact info? Ughhh, I was too nervous to even think of that!”

She should’ve gotten his contact first and explained things later!

“You would have regretted it even more.”

    “…Why?”

“Because he wouldn’t have given it to you.”

    “…”

“He might have even insulted you again because of it.”

Jiang Jia patted her head, half-joking.

Su ZaiZai smiled and pried her fingers off. “Get lost.”

Jiang Jia was about to retaliate when the bell rang.

Seeing Su ZaiZai still looking utterly dejected, she lost interest in teasing her and consoled, “Don’t worry, you’ll definitely run into him again. This school isn’t that big.”

Su ZaiZai wanted to cry. “Yeah… only sixty classes combined in first and second year.”

Jiang Jia was speechless. “…Drink your soda.”

The English teacher walked in, and the classroom immediately fell silent.

Su ZaiZai pulled herself together, patted her cheeks, and prepared to channel her heartbreak into studying.

After calling the class to order, the English teacher flipped through her materials at the podium.

A moment later, she looked up at Su ZaiZai. “Class representative, I left my lesson plan in Class 1. It’s a blue folder, should be on the podium. Go get it for me.”

Su ZaiZai nodded, stood up, and walked quickly toward the honors class.

Worried about keeping the teacher and classmates waiting, she eventually broke into a jog.

As she reached the entrance of the honors class, the sound of her footsteps echoed along the corridor, blending with the breeze.

She caught her breath, her hair slightly disheveled, and called out, “Excuse me.”

When the teacher beckoned her in, she walked up to the podium and said softly, “Teacher, I’m here to get Ms. Chen’s lesson plan. She said it’s on the podium.”

The teacher rummaged through some papers and handed her a blue folder. “This one?”

“Yes, thank you, Teacher.” With that, she turned to leave.

As Su ZaiZai turned, her gaze casually swept across most of the classroom.

Then, she suddenly noticed a boy sitting in the third row of the first group, on the outer side.

His head was slightly lowered, seriously writing on a piece of paper, completely unfazed by the outsider’s presence. From this angle, she could see most of his face—his nose was high and delicate, his lips subtly curved.

His posture was upright, exuding a sharp and composed demeanor.

The light cast a shadow from his eyelashes, forming a fan-shaped outline beneath his eyes.

Su ZaiZai withdrew her gaze as if nothing had happened and calmly walked out of the classroom.

On the way back, she was so excited that she almost wanted to roll all the way to her classroom.

She couldn’t help but bounce in place twice, thinking that if it weren’t for class already being in session, she could probably scream non-stop for an hour.

What kind of insane luck was this?!

She was so grateful to the English teacher!

Back at her seat, Su ZaiZai passed Jiang Jia a note.

——That guy you mentioned last time, one of the two handsome guys in the honors class—one is Zhang Lurang, what’s the other one’s name?

Jiang Jia glanced at her, puzzled as to why she was suddenly asking about this, but she still obediently wrote a name on the note.

    ——Zhou Xuyin.

Su ZaiZai licked her lips, crumpled the note into a ball, and whispered, “Which one is more handsome?”

The guy she had her eyes on was absolutely breathtaking! No one could compare!

Jiang Jia grabbed Su ZaiZai’s hand. Because the English teacher was there, she didn’t dare to be too loud, but her tone was incredibly excited. “I haven’t seen him myself, but based on descriptions, it has to be Zhou Xuyin!”

    “Zhou Xuyin…?”

    “Yeah! Damn, I heard he’s drop-dead gorgeous!”

    Drop-dead gorgeous.

Just a single glance from him was enough to leave her utterly captivated.
