Now, I only hope he will let me treat him well.
I just want to spoil him…

— Su Zai Zai Fairy’s Diary
The curtains were tightly drawn, and the room was shrouded in darkness.
The only source of light was the faint glow of a phone screen.
Zhang Lu Rang waited patiently.
His phone vibrated, and he glanced down at it.
He quickly stood up, walked over to Susu, and crouched beside it.
Gently patting its head, he smiled and asked, “Wanna go for a walk?”
Before heading out, Zhang Lu Rang stepped into Lin Mao’s room.
Lin Mao was typing on his laptop. Noticing Zhang Lu Rang enter, he didn’t even lift his gaze.
Zhang Lu Rang stood there for a moment before speaking softly.
“Uncle, I want to take the college entrance exam in Z City.”
Lin Mao’s fingers paused on the keyboard as he turned to look at him.
A brief silence followed.
Lin Mao sighed and said, “Z City’s non-local college entrance exam requires a lot of paperwork. Your household registration is in B City, and both your parents are there.”
“…”
“I’ll think of a way,” he said.
Zhang Lu Rang remained silent for a while, then nodded. “Okay.”
Just as he was about to turn and leave, Lin Mao spoke again.
“A Rang, don’t let it affect you too much.”
“…”
Lin Mao looked away and said seriously, “You’re already doing great.”
Zhang Lu Rang tugged at the corner of his lips and gave a low response.
“Where are you going?” Lin Mao suddenly asked.
Zhang Lu Rang paused before answering slowly, “Taking Susu for a walk.”
He thought he had gotten away with it.
The next second, Lin Mao continued.
“Who’s that girl I saw teaching you to ride a bike last time?”
“…”
“Ah, I saw her when I got home from work.”
“…”
Lin Mao confidently concluded, “Looks like a girlfriend to me.”
Zhang Lu Rang finally responded, his expression slightly unnatural.
“No.”
“Oh.”
After a brief pause, Zhang Lu Rang added, “She’s only fifteen.”
A year had passed, so she was probably sixteen now.
But still too young.
So young that even the thought of touching her felt like a crime.
Su Zai Zai was assigned to the humanities-intensive class.
Her new deskmate was Wang Nan, who had been in the same class as her before.
Wang Nan walked in from outside, sat down, and immediately complained in frustration.
“Hey, Su Zai Zai, I heard we have military training next week…”
Su Zai Zai’s pen paused mid-stroke, and she turned to him in disbelief.
“Wasn’t military training canceled? Why is it happening this semester…?”
“No idea. Apparently, they scheduled both military training and agricultural experience together. It’s set for Monday morning.”
“…”
Su Zai Zai immediately got up and walked out.
The science-intensive class was right next to the humanities-intensive class.
Zhang Lu Rang sat at the very back of the first group, near the back door.
Su Zai Zai called out to him, “Rang Rang.”
Zhang Lu Rang turned his head to look at her.
Leaning against the doorframe, Su Zai Zai said, “I heard we have military training next week.”
Zhang Lu Rang didn’t react much, only nodding slightly.
“Honestly, it’s better to have it now. If we had it in September, we’d get roasted under the sun.”
“Mm.”
Su Zai Zai thought for a moment before continuing, “I heard the agricultural research station is really sunny. I’ll bring you some sunscreen this weekend. Make sure to use it during training.”
Hearing this, Zhang Lu Rang frowned. “I’m not using it. Don’t bring it.”
Su Zai Zai was silent for a moment before saying, “Do you think that if you use it while other guys don’t, you’ll seem too feminine?”
“…” He didn’t answer, but it was clear she had hit the mark.
“Rang Rang, you really don’t get it, do you?”
“What?”
“Other guys don’t use it because no one buys it for them,” Su Zai Zai said with a grin.
“…”
“So, do you want it or not?”
Su Zai Zai stared at him, watching as he turned his head away.
Then came his muffled reply.
“…Mm.”
Military training began on the very first day at the agricultural research station.
After delivering a long and intimidating speech, the instructor ordered the students to hand in their phones.
Holding a large sack, he stood at the front, waiting.
Su Zai Zai obediently took her phone out of her bag.
She walked up to the instructor and dropped it in.
Once they had changed into their training uniforms, the instructor led the humanities-intensive class to one of the training fields.
When they arrived, Su Zai Zai noticed that Zhang Lu Rang’s class was training right next to them.
Because of that, she deliberately positioned herself in the second-to-last row.
Military training was when people looked their worst.
When she had time, she needed to have a little chat with the class beauty…
He was absolutely not allowed to look this way.
Early the next morning.
Su Zai Zai was still asleep when she felt discomfort in her lower abdomen.
When she got up, the familiar dull ache in her stomach confirmed her bad premonition.
It was still early, and everyone in the dorm was fast asleep.
Su Zai Zai quietly climbed out of bed and left the room.
When she checked in the bathroom, her suspicion was confirmed—her period had arrived.
Her periods were usually painless, except on the first day.
The first day was always unbearable.
She put on a pad, freshened up, and returned to the dorm.
One by one, her dormmates woke up.
Su Zai Zai lay back down to rest for a bit and unknowingly fell asleep.
Her classmate Xiaoxiao, who was also assigned to the humanities-intensive class, returned from the bathroom and immediately shook her awake.
“Zai Zai, wake up! There are only ten minutes left until nine! If you’re late, the instructor will remember you!”
Su Zai Zai, still groggy, quickly got up and put on her shoes.
The two of them rushed out.
As they neared the training ground, Xiaoxiao suddenly noticed something.
“Zai Zai, where’s your hat?”
Su Zai Zai froze and instinctively reached for her head.
“I…” She was a little anxious, walking as she thought, “I think I left it in the restroom…”
“What do we do now?”
Su Zai Zai hesitated for a moment and said, “I’ll go back and get it…”
“It’s too late.” Xiao Xiao pulled her into the formation and whispered, “Let’s see what the instructor says. It’s the first day, maybe he’ll let it slide.”
Su Zai Zai nodded and stayed quiet.
Just as the whistle blew, the instructor arrived.
He bent down to place his water bottle on the ground, then swept his gaze over the group, speaking in a cold voice: “Stand properly.”
The whole class obediently stood at attention.
“Stand still for fifteen minutes. Do not move.”
“…”
“If you need to move, call out ‘report’.”
As the instructor spoke, he walked around them, inspecting.
It didn’t take long for him to notice Su Zai Zai, who wasn’t wearing her hat.
His expression darkened immediately as he strode up to her.
“Where’s your hat?”
“…”
“Didn’t I say yesterday that your hat, uniform, pants, belt, and shoes must all be worn properly, without anything missing?”
Su Zai Zai mumbled, “You did…”
“Then why aren’t you wearing it?”
Su Zai Zai was feeling awful because of her period, so even her voice was weak: “…I forgot.”
The instructor’s voice grew even louder: “Why don’t you forget yourself while you’re at it?”
Su Zai Zai was about to explain that she was feeling unwell.
But before she could speak, she saw someone running toward her.
Behind him, another instructor was shouting angrily, “Did I tell you to move?”
Zhang Lu Rang ran up to Su Zai Zai.
Panting slightly, he placed his own hat on her head.
The hat was warm from the sun and slightly damp from his sweat.
Su Zai Zai was completely stunned.
Without saying a word, Zhang Lu Rang turned around and walked back.
The instructor didn’t make things harder for Su Zai Zai, but he watched Zhang Lu Rang’s side with interest.
Zhang Lu Rang’s instructor glared at him coldly as he returned.
Instead of letting him rejoin the group, he repeated in a cold voice, “Did I tell you to move?”
Zhang Lu Rang answered softly, “Report, no, sir.”
Then the instructor gave his next order: “Push-up position, now.”
Zhang Lu Rang immediately dropped to the ground, keeping his body low and holding the position without moving.
Su Zai Zai requested leave from her instructor and walked over to sit under the shade of a tree.
She stared at Zhang Lu Rang.
She did feel touched, but more than that, she felt sad.
Watching Zhang Lu Rang being punished made her heart ache.
The instructor stood beside him, sneering, “You think that was cool?”
Su Zai Zai lowered her gaze and muttered under her breath:
“It was cool.”
