Chapter 46: Two Little Wolves; If I’m Not Mistaken, This Should Be Wolf Meat

Unsure how long the wolves and wild boars would fight, they didn’t dare head over too early, choosing instead to wait a while longer.

The waiting time wasn’t wasted. They used the opportunity to settle the two piglets Bai Yu had just caught into the pigpen they had prepared in advance.

Looking at the pigs in the pen, Bai Xi could already imagine what it would be like once they grew up.

But two pigs weren’t enough. Bai Xi looked at Bai Yu. “Eldest Sister, are these two a male and a female?”

“I didn’t look closely,” Bai Yu said, guessing her thoughts. “Are you thinking of letting them breed?”

“Mhm,” Bai Xi nodded. “The island is so big anyway. We can raise more pigs so we don’t always have to go to the Forest Plane to catch them. If these two happen to be a male and a female, they can have piglets once they grow up.”

“I’ll check in a bit,” Bai Yu said, watching the piglets buried in their food. “However, these two are likely from the same litter, so letting them breed might not be a good idea. We’ll head back to the Forest Plane later to look around and catch a few more piglets.”

After handling the piglet situation, the two of them walked back together.

When they reached the house, Bai Miao was holding a book and reading. Seeing them return, she immediately spoke up loudly, “Eldest Sister, Second Sister, wolves are edible!”

Hearing this, both Bai Yu and Bai Xi laughed.

“Alright then. We’ll wait a bit longer and then go to the Forest Plane to see what we can scavenge. If we can haul back a few more wolves and wild boars, we’ll have plenty to eat for a while.”

“But we can’t go too late. If we wait too long, they might be picked apart by larger wild animals.”

“There are also lions and tigers in the forest,” Bai Miao said exaggeratedly, opening her mouth to let out a little “Awoo!” sound. “Very scary.”

“Does the book even describe how tigers sound?” Bai Xi asked in surprise.

Bai Miao nodded and mimicked the “Awoo” sound twice more.

“Miao Miao is so smart,” Bai Yu patted her head. “We’ll go take a look in a bit. They have to leave at least one wild boar or wolf for us.”

In the past, they certainly wouldn’t have dared to go over, but now their strength was much greater than before. Even if they encountered a wild boar or a wolf head-on, they could handle it.

It was only because the fight between the two sides had been so fierce this time that they hadn’t dared to approach.

It still wasn’t quite time to go. Bai Yu and Bai Xi busied themselves with chores for a while. Once they felt enough time had passed, they took Bai Miao with them to the Forest Plane.

Upon arriving, they fell straight down from a tree. Once they regained their senses, they remembered that because they had been up in the tree when they left, they had no solid footing when they returned, causing them to tumble down.

Fortunately, it wasn’t a big problem.

“Eldest Sister, blood.” Bai Xi looked at the bloodstains on the ground.

“Mhm,” Bai Yu nodded, handing Bai Miao over to Bai Xi. “Hold onto Miao Miao tightly. If we run into danger and there’s no time, leave immediately when I tell you to. I can handle things on my own. Wait a while on the island before coming back; I’ll be able to find my way.”

“Okay.” Bai Xi nodded. She believed Bai Yu could handle the danger.

Bai Yu followed the trail of blood forward, picking up a thick branch from the side and weighing it in her hand.

Luckily, the danger really was quite far from them this time.

After walking for a while, they saw a wild wolf lying on the ground, its breath fading.

“This wolf is still alive,” Bai Xi said softly.

“But it’s not far from death. Once it dies, it’ll be carried off by other animals,” Bai Yu said, gripping her club and cautiously stepping forward. “I’ll finish it off and take this one back first.”

“Whimper…” The wild wolf watched Bai Yu approach, baring its teeth with a fierce expression and letting out a series of low whimpers.

Bai Yu took a light breath and was about to bring the club down hard when she heard another sound.

She took a startled step back, only to see two little wolves crawling out from under the mother wolf’s belly.

Bai Xi walked over to Bai Yu’s side while holding Bai Miao and saw the two pups as well.

Bai Miao pointed at the pups. “Doggies.”

“Those are wolves,” Bai Xi held her tighter. “Very scary wolves.”

The pups were nudging the large wolf with all their might, but the large wolf’s eyes were slowly closing until it eventually stopped breathing entirely.

Bai Yu frowned and poked the wolf’s body with the wooden stick. No matter how much she poked, the large wolf remained motionless, while the two pups continued their desperate nudging.

    “Eldest Sister.”

“Let’s take them back first. Take the little ones back too.”

Confirming the large wolf was dead, Bai Yu felt relieved that she didn’t have to strike the blow. She stepped forward to scoop up the two pups and handed them to Bai Xi. Then, she grabbed the large wolf by its legs and used the Transit Pass to return.

After dropping off the large wolf and the pups, they went back to the Forest Plane to continue scavenging.

Later, they found one large and one small wild boar, and even encountered a living wolf during the process.

Fortunately, those wolves were also heavily injured and didn’t dare to act rashly. After a brief standoff, both sides went their separate ways.

The harvest of three animals was enough. Bai Yu didn’t get greedy. She led her two younger sisters back to the island and began processing the animals that had long since stopped moving.

“Bring out the salt from the Check-in a couple of days ago. We’ll cure some more wild boar meat today,” Bai Yu told Bai Xi. “The cured meat we made before has all been traded away. We need to make more.”

Bai Xi quickly went to get the salt. After giving it to Bai Yu, she asked, “Eldest Sister, I don’t understand. We have fresh meat to eat, so why do we need to cure it?”

“Just in case,” Bai Yu explained. “Even though these planes seem fine, we don’t know if an accident might happen. Just like the Magic Plane, it looked perfectly fine until that sudden incident. Many people died during that Magic Beast attack. Besides, it’s possible that one day we might suddenly be unable to go to the planes at all.”

“Will that happen?” Bai Xi hesitated. “We can look for Magic Elements now, so we can maintain the plane time indefinitely.”

“Just in case. It’s like the weather; it looks fine now, but a heavy rain might suddenly start. It happens fast,” Bai Yu pointed toward a spot in the sky. “A gust of wind could blow that dark cloud over, and it might start raining here very soon.”

Bai Xi looked at the sky. Although she still didn’t think it was likely they’d be unable to visit the planes, she agreed that Bai Yu had a point. “Then we can also raise a few more pigs.”

Bai Yu smiled. “Alright. We’ll go look for more piglets in a few days, okay?”

Bai Xi smiled and joined her in processing the meat.

On the other side, Bai Miao had been holding her book and reading when she suddenly felt movement at her feet. Looking down, she saw the two little wolves. For some reason, they kept nudging her shoes.

She shot a quick glance at the busy Bai Yu and Bai Xi, then fished a Steamed Bun out of her backpack. She broke off a small piece and offered it to the pups.

The two little wolves immediately began to eat.

After being fed a small piece of the Steamed Bun, the pups nudged her even more enthusiastically.

Bai Miao took another quick glance at her two sisters, broke off a large piece of the bun, and whispered to them, “Eat quickly, eat quickly. Don’t let Eldest Sister and Second Sister see you.”

Sure enough, Bai Yu and Bai Xi didn’t notice anything was wrong. When they finished processing the meat and came back to change their clothes, they didn’t even see the two little wolves.

The pups were even smaller than the two piglets, looking like puppies that had just been born. Since they had been set down earlier and hadn’t received much attention, the sisters had almost forgotten they were there.

It wasn’t until Bai Xi finished cooking and they sat down to eat that Bai Yu spotted the two little wolves hidden under Bai Miao’s trouser legs.

Judging by how affectionate the two pups were toward Bai Miao, it was clear they hadn’t just appeared.

Bai Yu’s face turned stern. “Miao Miao.”

Bai Miao immediately sat up straight and gave the pups a gentle little kick with her foot.

The little wolf cub didn’t care about any of that, continuing to nuzzle against her feet and even rolling around on the ground.

Bai Xi stood up and looked over, exclaiming in surprise, “Oh my, why do these two little wolves look just like puppies? They’re so cute! Eldest Sister, can we keep them?”

“Do you want to check if they are male or female?” Bai Yu asked, looking down.

“No, no, I mean we can raise them like dogs to guard the house. I heard before that people on land keep dogs for protection. We never had a house before, but now that we do, can we let them guard it for us?” Bai Xi walked over, picked up one of the cubs, and looked at it closely. “They really are so cute.”

Bai Yu also looked at the two little wolves.

Bai Xi lifted the cub and placed it in Bai Miao’s arms. “Let them play with Miao Miao.”

Seeing the expectant look in Bai Miao’s eyes, Bai Yu nodded. “We’ll see how they do for now. If they grow up and try to hurt people, we can’t keep them anymore.”

Bai Miao nodded her head repeatedly.

Bai Xi laughed from the side. “With these two wolves, they couldn’t touch Miao Miao even when they’re fully grown. Eldest Sister, you forgot that Miao Miao is just as strong as we are. It’s just that she usually uses her brain more.”

Bai Yu looked at Bai Miao again.

    That made sense.

After all, Bai Miao practiced cultivation with them. If nothing else, her physical strength was considerable. Two wolves really didn’t amount to much of a threat.

Having received her approval, Bai Xi and Bai Miao were very happy and immediately began bringing out food to feed the wolves.

At the same time, the New Plane had some different food available.

“What kind of meat is this? It doesn’t look like wild boar; it’s different from the boar meat we had before.”

“I haven’t seen meat like this either. The taste is just average.”

One of them chewed carefully and said, “If I’m not mistaken, this should be wolf meat. I ate wolf meat once a long time ago, and it tasted just like this.”

“Wolf? That sounds a bit scary.”

“What’s scary about it? It’s already boiling in our pot. If no one told you, you wouldn’t even have recognized the taste. But honestly, since we came here, we’ve eaten a lot of unique foods. Even some of those fish from a few days ago were kinds I’d never tasted before.”

“Regardless of the taste, our current conditions are much better than everyone else’s.”

“By the way, there’s something you all need to watch out for. I feel like someone has their eye on us. Be extremely careful when going out from now on, and make sure you aren’t being followed. We finally have an environment like this; I’m sure no one wants any accidents to happen.”

As these words were spoken, the atmosphere suddenly became heavy.

    However, everyone quickly spoke up.

    “Don’t worry, we’ll stay safe.”

“Even if I have to run far, I’ll never let anyone follow me.”

“Let’s discuss the personnel for going out again. We need to keep the groups small and elite.”
